I always enjoy your Let's Play videos & Nora being there too, only adds to the experience, btw A dry desert with three suns and large bones lying around is obviously a reference to Hades - from the film Pitch Black.
I don't understand your calculations. How can 1 set of 2 symbols be 5x25 and another set be 14x25, +10? Why not x10 or x(10x25)? How do you know when to use a plus and when to multiply by 25?
@Mikemc It depends on the position of the number. When converting base-25 to decimal, you take the value of the digit multiplied by 25 to the power of the digit's position in the number, counted from the right with the right-most digit being 0. Then you add the value of doing that to each digit together. The one that was 5*25 is actually 5*25^1 + 0*25^0.
Google "conversion between bases" or something for a more detailed explanation.
There is always much debate about whether the D'ni number system is base-25 or base-5. Such debates are silly, because really, it is both. It has a base-25 "place value" system, where each digit is multiplied by a power of 25. Each digit though has a mini 2-digit base-5 number system embedded within it. The sub-digit number system uses "rotational notation" instead of "positional notation", and is limited to 2 digits. As you can see, I've given this a lot of thought. :)
This book reminds me of the fireplace codes.

If the Age were real, the suns probably would move.

I must say, I'm reminded a bit of Gehn's aesthetic sense. I guess the D'ni really were into that sort of decoration.
