Well, Barty Crouch Jr. was pretending to be Mad-Eye Moody by use of a potion. So Moody wasn't actually a bad guy ;)

@OmegaPirate Because Moody was in the Order of the Phoenix (a secret organisation who fought the Dark Lord). The real bad guy was Barty Crouch Jr., who was impersonating Moody.
