  • This shows very poor form.

  • cool pool

  • This shows really poor form... You should be emphasizing the importance of getting your elbow as high out of the water as possible before stretching your arm, as well as noting how the tips of the fingers must go in first (not the thumb) and also the importance of not crossing your arms under your body to avoid shoulder injuries. Horrible video.

  • That was great, thank you for posting your video!

  • In Soviet,Russia

    Water swimms you

  • i already know how to swim freestyle but not like that

  • i already know how to swim like that

  • he look like drew brees lmao

  • Shoulders are massive, nice video!

  • You really can't turn your head enough to breath if you are turning only your head.

  • so, its only the head, not with shoulders, maybe thats why i always sink, coz i do it with my shoulders

  • @melissanne1 lol

  • when you misdirect your stroke it's not because you rotate your shoulders, in fact, you should rotate them! It's just because you are entering your arm in the water at an angle that's not correct, e.g. when you do a right arm stroke and cross your arm with the midline of your body....your arms should point forward at shoulder width...

  • Don't listen to this guy, he doesn't know what he is talinkg about.

  • He did it wrong.

  • i'm sorry dude, but I've been swimming since i was 5 and i'm 16 now, you need to bring your elbows higher, and you can swim with open hands, its actually better on your arms.

  • your technique isnt very good bro

  • hi i would like to make contact with u regarding the ways to resolve doubts about swimming could it be possible to get ur number

  • bob bowman phelps' coach says that while swimming freestyle when taking breath you should move your entire body together with your head!

  • @gaasxi1 No, you just move your head. Watch any pro swimmer.

  • I'm pretty sure what's discussed about not moving your shoulders at 0.46 is wrong!

    youtube.com/watch?v=mv_sDYHYzFw

You'll notice that Thorpe rolls his body, pulling his right shoulder back to reduce drag and getting great extension on his left arm.

No more than 1 goggle comes out of water when he breathes - and notice how he's expelling air through his nose while he swims so that he can inhale properly? Many people forget this and try to do both at once!

  • yh- the guy is clearly not a great swimmer... But he's better than average!

Putting your arms in at a 45degree angle really isn't that important. He needs to extend a little more so that he's pulling with as much reach as he can get - especially when breathing. Should roll slightly more when breathing to reduce drag and increase the reach of the pulling arm.

You shouldn't really take your whole face out of the water when breathing - but it's not bad...

  • Was this an excuse to show off your tattoos!?

  • lol he became totally breathless there

  • k now i know to swim i will go in ocean

  • This guy doesn't know how to swim properly

  • This guy doesn't know how to swim properly

  • Thank you fpr lessons ;-)

  • hoho everyone and anyone's an expert

  • This guy shouldn't be given a break because he 'seems nice'. The videos he's taken it upon himself to make are dangerous, because they are going to leave people not only with awful freestyle technique, but also with serious shoulder damage

  • this guy confuses the breathing part: he shows that the head should be turned after the 3rd stroke to breath in but in the water the does the right way just by breathing in "during" the 3rd stroke.

... and he seems like a nice guy :D

  • you are over reaching on entry. and yes u do need to roll slightly as u breath

  • over reach on entry. extend arms fully parallel to your movement.

  • 138.757 VIDEOS!!

  • ах, какая милашка.

  • would ya shu the hell! up hes just showing u simply thats why i hope yo ass drown

  • this guy has a bad technique he has to learn more about swimming

  • awww... he's cute.. ;)

  • Thanks it was great:)

  • Great instructions! Nice tips!

  • and then.. (hyperventilates) im gonna come back.. =p

  • Most people are saying that you were unhelpful... But that helped me alot! Thanks!!

  • ha ha he needs to improve his technique himself. that swiming demo was BAD!

  • I bet this guy cant even do butterfly

  • @kkksskkk LMAO

  • Thank you for taking the time and posting this video. I gave birth to twin girls 9 months ago and I am trying to get back in shape, my husband got me a membership to the gym and we went out to the pool he try to explain to me how to swim some laps across the pool. I had try for a week and it just was not working out for me I was doing all wrong. I sat down and watched all of your the videos on the freestyle and replayed them over and over. my swimming has improve. I really joy doing it too!

  • If you are beginner, it is better to wear swimming goggles, as it helps you relax

  • This guy's arms in recovery position are very straight, like in butterfly stroke recovery. even though it seems not very significant, it does drain your stamina quite a lot. just let your forearm hang down from the elbow(relax your elbows) until your hands have to enter the water. then SLOWLY thrust the water, instead of bellyflopping it (in this case, forearm flopping). it does slow you down and drain your stamina, and also, it makes you look like an ass who doesn't know shit about swimming

  • @kkksskkk you gotta make a video. i can't picture what you're talking about.

  • @chau2k5 i'd rather not, i don't have a largeass tatoo covered body like this joker, less a good camcorder, will try, tho, i like your incouragement (do i sound gay? lol)

  • @kkksskkk Most of the "how to swim videos" aren't helpful because they don't tell enough details. This guy's lesson is pretty detailed, but according to a many comments left on this video, his technique is poor. If you have the time and know someone who'll lend you their camcorder, you should definitely make a video. Or search on youtube for a video of a good swimmer then add voice commentary about their good and bad movements.

  • @kkksskkk I didn't realise they were tattoos. They like like oil slicks!

I agree with earlier comment - this guy is a 'competent' swimmer at best. He is completely out of breath after doing 6 strokes in a tiny pool that looks like it belongs to Fred Flintstone - probably because he is thrashing around and churning the water up like kitten having an epileptic fit.

  • Also, if you are splattering a lot of water when your hands reenter the water, it also means you are not doing it right. and try to relax and enjoy, if you are panicking when swimming, you are not going to get better any time soon

  • When you breathe, it is actually more like you are partly transitioning to a backstroke position and then coming back --- your upper body should move or you cant breathe nicely. and if you are out of breathe after only like 30 feet or something, that either means you are not doing it right or you are extremely out of shape. most of the times it is the former. and when you recover your arms, they should be bent, as if your forearms are just hanging down from your elbow

  • if he knows how to swim why dosent he just go in water

  • By the way, why is this guy so out of breath after just swimming about 10 metres at a leisurely pace? Kind of weird, huh?

  • Sorry, but following this advice will make you swim slower. You do want to rotate your shoulders to take longer strokes.

  • dude ur hot can we sword fight?

  • thanks man it really help me a lot matsalam.

  • omg why do they try to teach ppl somthing when they suck so much

  • WARNING

Following the advice in the video will likely not help freestyle stroke at all.

  • um... u should always rotate ur shoulders......other than that i agree with everythin he says

  • Expert Village ! Is this a joke ?

Keeping shoulders straight in the water and don't rotate your body ! Get this knob end off.

  • Wow you really struggle the water at 1:40. But thanks for the insight at 1:10 "you should always be kicking when you're swimming so that you can, you know, move forward" that really helped my swimming technique.

  • REALLY;;;

  • Comment removed

  • please would people like this stop posting swimming videos if they cant actually swim properly themselves.

  • good video

  • MORON

  • "do not use your entire body to swim..." WHAT!!!!

To be fast and efficient through the water you have to get your whole body involved, not just your arms. Good body rotation is the strong base for freestyle.

  • do not rotate your shoulders? YA RIGHT

  • My dog has a better freestyle than you

  • How did he get 90,000 views?

  • this guy has terrible technique

  • a gud one

  • Hu sez dis video instuctor is shit. heez great he totally taut me how to swim. great vid!!!

  • well he taught u to swim wrong then. watch any great swimmers on tv. breathing every 3 is only for sprints. 200m and more u should breathe every 2. and you should rotatate you shoulders as much as possible to cut down on resistence. you should also not clench you hand so tightly. if you move your thumb to a right angle it will stiffen you wrist, giving you a much more effective and less floppy stroke.

  • you dumbasses he clearly said dont rotate your head TOO! much only just enough....LISTEN next time!!XD

  • 3years in university swimming team. My coach allways told me to rotate the shoulders. That way you are using all your back in order to swim. In other hand Water Polo swimers do it that way, when they have the head out side the water.

  • dude, first of all you ARE MOVING YOUR SHOULDERS cuz thats the only efficient way to swim freestyle. don't be a hypocrite man.

  • It's impossible to just rotate your head. Your shoulders HAVE to rotate a little bit. For me, I don't get any air if I don't rotate my shoulders a little bit.

  • You have to and you SHOULD. This video gives horrible, incorrect tips.

  • "dont rotate your body"...??????

you should rotate your body 90 degrees from side to side.

your style seems very old fashined!!!

  • my instructor said that you need to move your legs.

  • I noticed that when you said to not move the shoulders...your technique will have to suck...and guess what...it sucks a little bit :X...I think you souldn't teach unless you've learned properly :X

  • why cause he seems like a nice guy, a lot of these bitches just complain he is trying to tell people the proper way to swim, albeit he should rehearse his moves on camera before posting some, but you guys are just mean-spirited!

  • @Tomhain totally agreed

  • theres no need to be cruel. if this guy is a true swimmer/instructor he will be hungry to learn any techniques that will make him swim faster with less effort and improve his teaching ability.

  • Kudos to him for making a nice video and trying to help people but most swim-coaches would disagree with almost everything he's saying regarding freestyle. You're right, though. There's better ways of saying that.

  • he really should know his stuff tho before he decides to make a video that teaches people the wrong thing

  • He can swim with me anytime !

  • why

  • shoulder straight? lol, has he heard of rotation?!?!

  • If he's wrong, where are the video responses to correct him?

  • trust me4...hes wrong. or maybe just not up to speed...but at least hes trying to prevent drownings by showing some rudiments. this technique is verrrrrrrryyyyy tiring and slow. he went less than 25 yrds in 12 strokes. i could make that pool length in 5 strokes and id go 3x faster.

  • lol, im a swimmer myself and this is NOT the way to swim freestyle. For people being introduced to the stroke, this video is alright sorta, but for people who have mastered it; this video is not very good at all.

  • horrible

  • this had to be made to sabatage the competition into totally sucking at swimming...who in the hell taught this clown to swim

  • body rotation is key for efficient swimming, without it you lose momentum, and you risk injury

  • That is the exact wrong thing to do for swimming freestyle, you are obviously not a swimmer.

  • No it's ok mate you don't need to come back. Stay at that end of the pool, where you can stay far away from anyone who wants to swim successfully.

  • lol its funny how the other guy said the exact opposite..rotate your body and shoulders as much as possible cause if you stay "square" it creates more drag

  • yes, totally opposites.

  • everyone.... pay close attention to when he demonstrates the 1-2-3 breathe... ahhahah hes breathing on the wrong side WOW.....

  • nah hes not, he u breathe on the opposite side of ur arm

  • the advice you give is in conflict with that of many good instructors out there. according to them, natural rotation around the long axis of the body is very good. i also dont really like your swimming style, it doesnt look nice...

  • lol complete idiot, some of worst swimming i've ever seen.

  • what a sloppy swimmer.. don't listen to him or you will drown

  • just rotate you head?? hmm interesting i have heard the opposite to that by instructors. Seems to be a contested point. Though from my experience i have to say turning the body is a lot better than just the head.

  • flutter.

  • You should always rotate your shoulders and body in freestyle. This gives your stroke more length.

  • i have been trying to learn how t swim since that almost drowing in alantic city but i am scared to lie flat in the water feel like i will sink like a rock andthen i panic but i am going to mad up tonight and give it a try

i want to swim i want to swim my physical therapis said iwill never be able to se says it's to late for me cause i am adult

    she might be right

    kinda wanna give up

    maybe i is hopeless ,

but i like being in the water it's fun and like feeling weightless

  • Its never too late!! go fetch swimming coach from swimming club to teach u to swim better - go for it!!

  • haha my swim team coach would strangle this guy...in freestyle (long distance mostly) its all about getting a farther reach and longer pull by elongating(sorry about the spelling) your body...but if your not swimming competitivly his technique would be fine

  • agreed, but the fact he is wearing board shorts to me, communicated that this video is for those who can't swim. but ya, my coach would deffinentley kill this guy.... :)

  • He's hot... that's the only reason why I watched this... he's wrong about the rotation!!!

  • Very Good with useful tips

    Suseela, India

  • I like this video just because he has his shirt off. He's cute!!

  • this guy doesn't know how to swim himself.

  • who is this guy? should we really take tips from him?

  • totally agree with the last comments. very strange lesson, doesn't seem to have clue :(

  • what the fvck, this has no idea. He must have self taught himself. Do not apply hs technique it's floored.

  • wow this is all wrong...you're supposed to rotate your shoulders, in order to get a longer reach in order to get a longer pull...i know, i'm a college swimmer...fail on his part. rotate your hips too...

  • exactly, youre shoulders dont have to be level with the water in order for it to be streamlined, you need to roll them with the stroke to aid your arms and reach etc

  • Absolutely agree with your technique. This guy is weird. His style is ancient. 20 years age we swam using the forearms without rotating the shoulders, no 100M free is under 55. These days we rotate the shoulder and hips, power comes from the muscles on the 2 sides of our back, and we have 100M free records under 47 sec.

  • agreed! i was always taught to swim with my shoulders rolling in competetive swimming anyways.

  • ...i think you're right... everytime we rotate shoulders we can help the body to have a better glide... this is the most "powerful" tip to swim...

  • hes doing it wrong? i was listeing to him. how should it be?

  • you should also rotate the hips as this is the greatest sourse of power you can get on the long axis strokes...ie: michael phelps and alex popov

  • wut do you mean rotate hips? how do you do that?

  • i noticed in the olympics the swimmers breathe every 2 strokes in the longer events, not every 3 strokes.

    how come???

  • because at the rate they swim they need more O2 for their body so they dont see black and blue

  • Overall I like these videos because they are very detailed and go in simple steps. Each video should have a number in the titleso they are easier to find. I have heard that you should move your shoulders and he even seems to do it when he swims. Nevertheless for his target audience (someone new to swimming) these are useful and simple, even if they are not perfect.

If you want to watch them all in order I have made a playlist of them all.

  • You are full of good intentions and no knowledge at all. Get a swimming instructor.

  • you can not swim dude

  • U should actually look in front of you so that u have the water level just on the beginning of the forehead! Otherwise your shoulders will sink and u won't move on!

  • true =.=

  • he says dont move shoulders but he moves his shoulders??

  • stfu you spaz.

  • Fag is your best? you're pathetic. you can't spell and you can't talk like a normal person. you are a retard.

  • i was moving my shoulders....thanks man!

  • imbread? haha you fucking inbreds can't even spell haha. Learn Grammar and spelling stupid fuck.

  • loser.

  • oh fuck off.

  • Great words... Seems impressive.
