I owned an Akita for six years (not sure how old she was when she passed, she was a stray I adopted) and I have to say, Japanese Akitas and American Akitas have very different personalities. Geisha, the prior mentioned, was very calm and rarely showed any aggression - great family dog and loved people. Julie, my current US Akita, overly energetic and hates being in a social environment for extended periods of time - stubborn as all hell and challenged me every chance she gets.
I think this dog can make some people, llike me for example :) really happy.. no matter what in your life is happening when this dog is close with you is like you wont find a better friend, never!
@TadaKiba All the japanese akitas have grey mask when they are puppies(except the white ones). I can tell you for a fact since my dad has a 100% akita inu that looks like Akuma.
your dog's name is Demon but he looks like an angel. I always wanted akita, but here, in Bulgaria they are really expensive and there in no place I can adopt one from.
How can a person treat such a lovely and gentle animal with such cruelty? It's amazing ,how many messages of peace and joy this dog gives, just by sitting still.
I adopted my Akita when he was 2 yo. He was in a really bad situation; wasn't fed regularly and was left chained up in a yard by himself. He's 5 yo now and such a great dog. I always wondered what he may have looked like as a pup and I'll bet he looked very similar to your dog. I call him my big bear because he looks just like a bear sometimes. I have to muzzle him around other dogs because he'll go after certain dogs; usually males, german shepards and rottweilers. He's fine with my 3 females.
As far as I know, in dog world, a raised tail means "I am boss here" . And it is a kind of rank symbol. How is it when in the park with an Akita Inu that all the time has that tail up? Is it not a source of conflict between your dog and others?
@arnar36 Yes it is. And the main issue with Akita Inu is their leadership instinct. They are very dominant so their interaction with other dogs could be a problem, especially of the same sex.
@jerushalaim This is so true and I learned the hard way. I rescued a 2 yo male akita and learned quickly that I have to muzzle him if he's going to be around other dogs. Most dogs he's fine with. He takes issue with german shepards and rottweilers for some reason and will attack without provocation regardless of their sex. I have 3 female rescues of varying breed mixes and he does really well with them. They're a happy pack of 4. There's big responsibility associated with having this breed.
@jerushalaim I'm very lucky that my akita never killed another animal while I was figuring out the breed and what triggers him. I wracked up about $5K in vet bills for other animals he attacked. 3 of the 4 attacks were just freak incidents. 1 attack was around food and that was when I first got him. He was very food possessive because the moron who owned him didn't feed him regularly. Poor guy never knew when he'd be fed so he was protective of his food for a while. He's fine now though.
Yeah I hear they're very dominant and can be difficult. But he seems so great! I know off camara may be an exteremly different story but are you particularly educated with dog training? What would you reccomend before getting an Akita besides puppy conditioning and not allowing dominant behaviors like making them wait for their food etc. I really would love on of these dogs
akuma means devil right? I was thinking of naming my shiba inu that but sadly akuma is 3 syllables and I need two. I dont wanna name him just kuma(bear) Im still deciding on a Japanese name.
@Supersergi777 It depends by many elements. A good dog pedigree, with an plain genealogy, is about 800€. A puppy of two national champions could rise to three times that price and over.
However, an Akita Inu is cheap compared to chihuahua, pug and english bulldog.
The most important thing is that Akita Inu is not a good choice for the most of the people who loves dogs. It is different. In many ways. Akita Inu is the best dog to who loves Akita Inu, like me ^__^
@jerushalaim I agree it's the best dog in the world, i've watched a film hachiko's dog story and it was very sad and the best film i've ever watched! now in may i 'm gonaa buy a akita inu puppy and i want know will it be to expensive to buy a puppy and how much does it cost?
@Supersergi777 As I said, i think between 700€ and 1000€. Ask for the pedigree. And mind two big issues about Akita Inu's: first it is strongly dominant and if you have other pets at home, be sure to help'me get in touch with it from its 2nd - 3rd moth of life. It will not accept other animals of the same sex when it'll be 7th-8th months old.
Second it is very devoted to its family: once it'll decide that you are part of its life (before a year of age), you'll be its and it'll be yours forever.
It's beautiful, one of the most beautiful dogs I've seen in my life, thank you for these well-deserved six minutes Jerushalaim. sorry for my English but is very bad and wanted to leave my comment.
he's lovely. I got my Akita just this week end. He's only 8 weeks, a ball of fur at the moment. My fella Kuma is grey and white. Best of Luck with Akuma
What a lovely video, thank you for posting it. I am going to adopt an Akita-Inu puppy in a couple of months, I can't wait. Do you keep Akuma indoor in your apartment? I am planning to keep mine in my garden but I will also have him inside the apartment, did you have any problems with Akuma chewing furniture or scratching doors? Thanks
