The better team won this and that was Canada, in Canada this series was basically considered a war, the ice was the battle field, the pucks were the ammuniton, nets were the target and the heart of the Canadians was our fuel.
I watched this goal live at school in grade 8. The principal allowed the school to watch the final game on the classroom TV sets (remember those old school TVs on elevated metal frames?). I wasn't much of a hockey fan, but it was pretty exciting. When Henderson scored his big goal, you could hear everyone in the building yelling through the walls.
@NinaStar29 it was a different time hockey in these days is way faster and the hits are uglier and way harder than without helmets.hockey looks beeter without helmets, but the goalies should wear always a helmet.if you see a hockey puck is coming straight in your face with 100 mph you will be happy to have some face protection
Paul Henderson is from my home town of Lucknow, Ontario. He used to work for the guy that previously owned our house. Makes me proud to be from his home town!
I remember watching the game in our gym at school from a small black and white TV, with about 200 kids, I was in 4th grade and still remember the feeling when they tied and won the game...magic, it was like a war, the images from Russia were all weird and not clear...September 1972 will always be special...
@Love4SK definetly the greatest, I watched the whole series, I still remember the russian players names; it´s a real shame Bobby Orr couldn´t make it, the world really missed out !!! I would´ve love to have seen Valery Kharlamov one on one against number 4 !!!!!!!
I may not have been alive for this goal, but the Eberle goal, well really the whole play by the Canadian line, really was un-freakingbelievable. I get chills up my spine everyime I see it
agreed that was amazing goal, but this goal can never be beat. I was not alive for this, but i have watched this series countless times and every time there is a goal for Canada i jump like im actualy there. This is how hockey should be played with heat and love for the game. I love hockey but the now a days players are all about the cash. GO LEAFS GO BLEED THE BLUE AND WHITE!

I was in grade 10, and we watched this in the shcool cafeteria!!! What a great series!! Now, whoever decided Foster Hewitt should do the play by play is a complete idiot!! Hewitt is the all time worst play by play announcer in sports history. Yet there are people that call him the greatest.....well....I'd be the greatest too if I owned the radio station.......
@jtoshawa Foster Hewitt was 70 years old and retired by this time, but he came back to do this series because, well I don't know, but probably because he realized its importance and wanted one last time in the sun. He invented hockey play by play and most announcers still follow his style today.
There is no comparison between those goals, that was a piss ass junior hockey goal. This was the most important goal ever scored by a Canadian end of story
the untold story is that the russians called the canadians rooms all night, knocked on their doors all night and denied them the (Western) food they were used to. still - with a bit of luck, the Canadians won. i lived in Seattle, (most overrated town in the world) and our vancouverite friends were overjoyed -with RELIEF. an amazing era.
They won 3 out of 4 games on Russian ice when they finally got a bit in shape and got some chemistry going--as opposed to the Russian team that trained together for weeks running up to this. If team Canada had trained together like the Soviets it probably would've been something closer to 7 wins for Canada and 1 for Russia.
i disagree, for the simple reason that I think the series turned out perfectly the way it did. LOL It might have made a difference if Hull or Orr could have played though.
nah, i'd have to agree with him. Canada wouldn't allow any of their NHL superstars to play, but the Russians had players that trained for months before the game. because the russians were communist, so their governemnt made them train 24/7, canada took it way too lightly, and they found out in a hurry, that Russia wasn't a joke. they outskated, out played and out smarted the Canadians, but we adjusted and came back, and strong.
lol u serious right lol....soviet uniion cheated plus they didnt want to play overtime which made it a 8 game series...which we won u idiot we won the last game we had 4 wins soviet union had 3 making it 7 games with one tie...so dued go check up on wut u know about hockey before u start talking....CANADA OWNS!
I have seen the game in Montreal. We were so luckey to get a ticket, only every 4th person got a ticket. My father went, and I had to pay my brother 70.-. Back then I earned 25 cents a day del. newspapier. We bid for this ticket, and I only had about 200.- in the bank. It was worth every penny, even so Canada lost this game. For the last game the whole highschool watch the game in the gym area. Laval Catholic Highschool, thanks teachers, you were the best.
Go right ahead, and let me know what Parise says. Hopefully, Parise did not loose any money to Eagleson and his lies. Secondly, please pass along my gratitude for what Parise did in game 8. He knew what it was all about, and did what he had to do. He drove Canada's emotions to heights never before reached, and that's why they could come back in the third period like they did. As for your referring to me as a 'bitch', that is neither accurate nor appreciated.
I gotta give credit to Canada, they went into moscow like they owned the joint and completely imposed their fighting will on the ruskies..

Neither Bobby Orr nor Bobby Hull was in this series - Orr because of knee surgery and Hull because he had just jumped to the WHA.

Henderson gets all the glory, but Espisito was the hero.
stubs96 3 years ago 4
well the fact being that Phil Espisito was lucky enough that Henderson was where he was, and that henderson got the rebound and chipped it in
it was playing off each other, henderson took the credit for the goal, but he openly admitted it was because of Espisito that he could even do it.
