I'm guessing you removed the high C and instead moved each of the other strings down one, so you have your B where the E would be? Is that good for playing with?? I currently own a 5 string and my B is fairly floppy and distorts when I plug it into my computer or amp...
Hey man when will you guys post some new song with job!!!?????
Still waiting for that brutal new album. I think you blow away any bass player job ever had. I mean brent seemeed to be cool but I mean I didnt hear him on ruination but I already know what you are capable of since I am a huge cephalic fan! And btw did you leave cephalic???!!!:o
@gorgardmw222 soon.... Thanks a lot man I appreciate it. Did not leave Cephalic, we're just not very busy because our drummer had a baby girl and wanted to slow down with touring
@mclouds37 Actually it's already done! Did an EP with them in February, and we finished recording a full length in October. It's pretty damn sick. The bass tone/level is probably my favorite I've ever had
@omfgmikeithurts um I been messing with it for about 6 years or so. its all about relaxing. when youre tense it doesnt work, you gotta find that sweet spot where your hand position is relatively stable but just the right amount of meat on your thumb is flexible
@Bassfordays what tuning would that correspond to Nick? Im trying to play in this kind of style (obviously I have a few lifetimes of practice still to go :D) but I think i might be using a way higher tension than suitable for it.
@EaterOfBirds I like to roll with about .05 lighter than your average B standard set.Keep in mind what your scale length is on your bass, your strings might be fine gauge-wise but you might be getting a long-set when you need extra-long, etc. That stuff affects tension too. Also- get that action nice and low without buzzing of course-
@Bassfordays 1st of all dang that was a fast reply, and 2nd what is that thing i see in the bottom left corner thats moving of the video,on top of the white wall part?
@NubbletClaypool Right on man! That's a little too big of a complement though. Integrate what you like, but make it your own, and be sure to be you instead. Yar!
@Bassfordays It was mostly just me admiring how well your style of playing fits with the music your band makes. If I were to ever find a band to join I would wanna do things like slapping, and double thump but most Metal bands wouldn't allow it. It's great how yours all works out :D
@NubbletClaypool I gotcha for sure. Yeah I think its about working it in "tastefully". It is very difficult to find Death Metal/Metal bands that are cool with such techniques cause you can definitely "blow it" and have it sound cheesy as shit. Guess it depends on the individual band. Start your own band. Then you can have the bass do whatever the funk you want!
@Bassfordays Well that would work, but currently in this part of Florida, the thing musicians wanna play is Death-Core and I'm no fan of that and none of them around here are of with experimenting so it wouldn't be worth it yet. I'm a look-out for better musicians to be in a band with though.
@Blastrebation Thanks man. Hard to make funk work in metal without being Goofy, but I can't pick up a bass and not want to funk it somehow. Ever heard Robert Trujillo's stuff on Infectious Grooves? Check oot Violent and Funky. Sweet shiz for sure.
That is great :D. You really should because this is great :D. Or atleast make a video for us beginners explaining the theory behind it and the pregression and stuff. You fucking rock btw
Sweet dude. Thats pretty amazing. But was wondering - i saw Cephalic carnage live a few weeks back. But you werent the bassist. Maybe you got haircut? Anyhow. Awesome playing, subscribed!
@Necromal he told me he uses the tuning F# B E A D G. in all the live pictures there's six strings on it but all the studio footage it has the low F# removed. maybe he doesnt use it at all in the studio. the guitarists play in b standard but also in drop a so he probably just switches tunings on recordings but uses the lower string live so he doesnt have to detune his bass or switch instruments.
Great video! You're Nick Schendzielos, their new bassist, aren't you? Awesome playing... my drummer turned me on to your stuff. A bit like Mr Bungle without the polkas...not that I' dissin polkas. Had a bus pull in the studio once, young BYU looking kids and two old guys. While tracking, the old guy in the control room looks at his watch and in about four measures hits the talk back and says to the drummer (no click for polkas) " you're at 117.5, get that to 118.. " referring to BPM.
