Everyone who believe that corporate America is ruining this once proud country and is turning it into a wasteland full of people who are forced to depend on government hand-outs needs to VOTE. Don't let apathy fill you with contempt for the process that so many have given their lives for. Many have died and are dying for you to live as you choose. Do your civil duty....VOTE...if for no one else, then your children!!!
This is super embarrassing, but I never saw that gesture before (I don't get commercial tv, & haven't been to a political rally in years).
Was the hand signal just done for Obama's campaign, or was it around before?
What's it signify?
In context (both song & pic) it'd make sense if it = "change" -- and the engineer-math-science types use the Greek letter "delta" (a triangle on its base) for "difference" (or "change in value"), so that would make sense.
amazin--you put up with 8 years of the Dolt and the Sneer, but Obama was gonna solve this is one year? He walked into a shitstorm, and has to deal with an opposition that turns its back on its OWN proposals if he endorses the. He's far from perfect, but he's a damned sight better than the past, and light years ahead of where we'd be had Mccain won.
i can just here the pain, and every emotional sense of vocal expression right here, It makes me want to cry..But also gives me joy and strength to know what us black people have been through and we still rise! thanks to our forefathers and mothers who have taken the racist abuse and apauling torment and hate .. "We are here. Because you were there!" The beautiful struggle continues.. epic voice!
Kiawia, I have seen many videos on You Tube, but this one has them all beat. You did a superb job here!! I know I speak for millions of others when I say thank you from the bottom of my heart. God bless you.
Great clips, some more touching then I realized it would. The music and the clips made our history real great job.But our great country has come a long way and still has a long way to go. Just read some these comments. Thank God for youtube. At least I know what is outside my door. Peace lives here by any means necessary.
When injustice of any kind occurs, all of us are diminished as human beings... and the only way for every evil act committed against anyone can be overcomed, it is by doing acts of kindness, that the world will change.. It may take a long time.. but to me , it is MY WAY ,
I can't believe how badly so called christians be toward people just because of skin color. Laughable when you see all these white people trying so damn hard to get tan. A change is still needed.
The change can ONLY be the change that Martin Luther King Jr. revealed to America. His message died and with it the most humanistic movement America ever experienced. We are the Dream he spoke of. We are thew hope he had that gave him the courage to fight to the death. We are the change and we are here now. We must not wait for anything any more.
Read Martin Luther King Jr.'s speeches and grow the change in your heart everyday. Thank you for this post.
Sam Cooke had the most amazing voice, so much soul, it is so sad that he died so young and we did not get to hear all the wonderful talent God had in store for him.R.I.P. SAM.
I have to agree. Unfortunately it is becoming more and more obvious that the president of the United States is not in charge of as much as we thought he was in charge of. He's buckling to the powers that be in Washington DC. The worst part about it is, if Obama can't/won't bring the change this country has needed for so long, we're in trouble, because he was the best hope we had. No one with a net worth of less than several million dollars will ever get close to the White House again.
Thank you for this video. Very profound message. My two favorite male singers ever were Bobby Darin and Sam Cooke, both gone way before their time. And yes, I got a crush on Obama! and Bobby and Sam!!
I agree one thousand percent!!! I also just recently discoveed it and wondered why haven´t I heard it yeares ago. It never received the credit it deserves.
We stand alright. The question is, in the years and decades to come, are we going to be willing to do what must be done to crush the hand of financial and racial supremacy in this country? Because until we are, this man's music was in vain.
Thank you for the great video. It was done with a true heart. I wish it could relate to the whole world, but somehow I feel it will take a long time. Love to you and maybe your contribution will help. SURELY ONE DAY OUR EYES WILL BE OPEN
This song is real it touches more than just the black race....It touches ever culture so that they could see what one man has been through on this earth....And its sad that people act like this just becuz som1 was born just like you....But guess what thats how the world is so we as people hve to learn to live with it and respect each other as people and not their skin color...And that statement was just as powerful as the song...
@cocomarie31 Boy you took the words right out nof my mouth. Folks listen please to this song it means alot to all. Color of a skin is just like a peel apple is just an apple ( RED or GREEN ) you do not know what color it was but its a sweet apple. You go by any school for kids the ages of 3 to 8 all of them playing together that makes me smile.
To the poster: Well Done! A very great song by a great singer. Cooke, Nina Simone, and many others had to "shade their words in songs" because of the obvious messages in their songs, but the message still came through, loud and strong!
akseventy4...Sam Cooke WROTE this song...and lived it. Otis may have covered it ...dozens of singers have covered it, actually. There's a stunning version on the Playing For Change CD (here on YouTube)..but much as I'm sure we all loved Otis - this was Sam's song with his inimitable stamp on it.
i think that you should think more about this song, and the message being put across. You should stop looking at where people are 'from' and just get on with people who you admire and get along with, no matter what colour they are. colour is not important, we all need to remember we are all the same, no matter what has happened in the past.
I nearly cried when I saw the young boy. I just made me realize how lucky I am. Chnage has come and now we have a black president. People, can we please stop using Negro. It suits no good we are not in Mississpi in the 1960's and neither are we in the1912's. Please lets support our president. Go Barack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No one does it like Sam Cooke. Every other version tries to stylize it, or focuses too much on the technical aspects. This man is just singing his heart and his dreams out.
Great song by a talented man, too bad some idots used the color of Sam's skin to promote the THE WRONG KIND OF CHANGE. Shame on you people pulling the wool over our eyes! Stick around and see the changes that are here, be glad if you have a job and food to eat..

Kind greetings from Canada, and thank you for converting the slideshow to video. You may be (probably are) much to young to have been alive when the (Great) Sam Cooke was performing, but at 62 I remember and... he still speaks to my heart.

r.i.p. emmit till god bless you youll paved the way 4 us young black. i mean from the bottom of my heart. nobody of my young generation does not understand or will ever be able to feel that kind of pain you guys felt back then
the black man has been fooled again you fools think obama is gonna change what matters for the working class and the masses . wake up! this exact scam has been pulled around the world hundereds of times ,, soon as the people are starting to join think and look at them selfs and unite. sorry my brothers an sisters no change is coming the change already happened and its long gone. wait another 20 30 years to piss away what was achived with blood and pain.
THe only "real change gonna come" is when a black REPUBLICAN is elected President. I find it completely absurd that blacks flock to a party that is resposible for ALL the oppression that has been laid down upon them after emancipation. How many people out there know the Republican party was formed EXCLUSIVELY for the rights and freedom of blacks and Abraham Lincoln was it`s first President? A black Democrat is like a Jewish Nazi party member! It`s insane to me why a black would be a democrat
@Edhallick please read some history books. the republican party today is NOTHING like lincoln's republicans. brush up on your american history before you comment on anymore videos
@Edhallick for the record.....we are not "blacks"! The color of our skin is darker than yours, but we are not black (Art lesson). We are African American! Why we choose to do what we do is our right. A right that we didn't have before. Don't confuse yourself as to why WE make OUR choices. Focus on you and yours. Eventually you will realize that WE "African Americans" don't have to agree with you and/or make our decisions based on what you think is best.
@Edhallick Let's not live in the past as if it defines the present! WAS is the key word here. Those racists Democrats and their kin are now Republicans! The south was largely Democratic, and now it's largely Republican. Got it? Don't be such a simpleton!
@neoviking69 The past DOES define the now and the now is still happening. Let's not live in LaLa land and pretend that blacks aren't still oppressed in this system of World White Supremacy- Satan's kingdom on earth.
I disagree with your premise. You can't change history no matter how much you try. Repubs aren't racist. They believe in self responsibility. The problem is...dem policies inslaved people to depend on the government which sadly has affected many of all colors who live in poverty. Check out the stats prior to the war on poverty and those after and maybe you'll make some informed decisions you simpleton!
ahhh FINALLY the sam cooke version...it sounds like you recorded it on a microphone off vinyl, lol...idc i found every single version except this one on youtube hahahaha this ones the best ofcourse...maybe luthers too
I agree that it is passionate....I have lately paid more attention to the back ground music in alot of movies and many times it is Sam Cooke....I am in such awe & wow!!! This man is definitely a legend
does anybody have a link to sam cooke's version of the song because i'm annoyed as hell that there's other peoples versions on here and not his. i damn sure am not checking for them either. thank you.
Who do you think you are listening to? This IS Sam Cooke. Your comment does not seem to make any sense unless you are talking about the video as opposed to the audio. In which case, say what you mean.
I tried to find a video of Sam singing this song because it has always been my favorite Sam Song...This video is amazing but the audio is not the best ...The song is so beautiful--I don't know the technical words but its Soaring and Majestic and no-one does it like Sam Cooke...
Good video, nice that you actually captured the power of the song with the pictures. The Robert Kennedy quote too, very few people know he ever said that. 68' was the year I think even.
the slide with the picture of the lynching gave me chills. the compilation of pictures was fantastic and the message is outstanding. also, thank you for using the original music. nobody could sing it as well as sam cooke did!
This song is so passionate... And it is even more passionate to me because he is dead.. But still it has a good sense to it about how the change is happening.
Thank you Jesus! For those who came before us; all of them; the names we will never know but they sacrifices they made get us where we are today. Thank you Jesus for our ancestors and ALL the people that sacrificed to allow Barack Obama to become president of THESE UNITED STATES.
some day the world will see it's self as more than just a place...but a reality we all must endure..for the time is near when we shall endure no longer..we will have to leave this precious place, and our memories will be all the eath needs to thank us for our positive energy left!
It's a great song by a fine singer/songwriter. The original song had a subtle and universal message, but I think this well-meaning but politically naiive video doesn't do it justice. I hope I can say that without being rude, as you said you didn't make the video, you just uploaded it.
I just hate the fact that people say Obama is bringing change. It is the population which is bringing change. Not Obama. The population of our great country finally set aside racial prejudice and voted for a man without letting his color taint their view of him. Good for us. We need to keep heading in that direction. But we should also not be guilty of reverse racism. It is possible for a black President to lead us toward destructive socialism. Lets not follow him just because he is black...
This is a great song by a great man, but with regards to the election of Barack Obama, change isn't going to come. That change depends on the poor and the common man, not a person funded by and subservient to Wall Street. The change Sam Cooke sings of is not the change which Obama would bring, that change is dependent on the poor and too long denied.
Amen...This song is more appropriate to the suffering of today's people who are losing jobs, becoming homeless and hungry because the liberals want to pay off those who keep them in power.
the opening bars, the strings, then sm sings...this is my man,my sam,the definative...my heart pounds my spirits leap and then the tears...but a change has come...thank you sam, martin luther and john
this is my man,my sam,the definative..first the strings, then sam sings,my heart pounds my spirit leaps and then the tears...40 years i've been listening to that song and its still fresh every time is like the first time love u sam
this is my man,my sam,the definative...first the strings..then sams sings...my heart pounds and my stomach leaps and then come tears..you know i've been listening to it for 40 years....fresh every time...
I luv this video i cry and think and listen to the words that come out his mouth. He's like my preacher. I understand everything he has to say. I luv Sam Cooke!
but he died n a motel..he was n a hotel with a woman n she ran out with his money n da manager thght he was trying to hurt the woman so the manager shot him n when he ran after the woman the only thing he had on was a towel so yea..then da woman that took his money strted dating bobby womack
I live in Colombia, I'm 50% native, 25% spanish and 25% polish. I don't know why I always cry when I hear this song and I can't stop. It reminds of so many people suffering...and pain. But I think the change isnt gonna come...the change already came! Congratulations black America!
Its amazing every time i hear this song it sums up the struggles of black americans and the evolution of true equlity that has brought us to this point. If your 8 or 80 you feel this song.
Everyone who believe that corporate America is ruining this once proud country and is turning it into a wasteland full of people who are forced to depend on government hand-outs needs to VOTE. Don't let apathy fill you with contempt for the process that so many have given their lives for. Many have died and are dying for you to live as you choose. the black man has been fooled again you fools think obama is gonna change what matters for the working class and the masses . wake up! this exact scam has been pulled around the world hundereds of times ,, soon as the people are starting to join think and look at them selfs and unite. sorry my brothers an sisters no change is coming the change already happened and its long gone. wait another 20 30 years to piss away what was achived with blood and pain.

Edhallick 2 years ago
@Edhallick please read some history books. the republican party today is NOTHING like lincoln's republicans. brush up on your american history before you comment on anymore videos
Kiawia32 1 year ago 4
@Edhallick. You sound a bit confused....I don't even know where to start......
TheZenGod 1 year ago
@Edhallick for the record.....we are not "blacks"! The color of our skin is darker than yours, but we are not black (Art lesson). We are African American! Why we choose to do what we do is our right. A right that we didn't have before. Don't confuse yourself as to why WE make OUR choices. Focus on you and yours. Eventually you will realize that WE "African Americans" don't have to agree with you and/or make our decisions based on what you think is best.
tgravely6 1 year ago
@Edhallick Let's not live in the past as if it defines the present! WAS is the key word here. Those racists Democrats and their kin are now Republicans! The south was largely Democratic, and now it's largely Republican. Got it? Don't be such a simpleton!
neoviking69 1 year ago
@neoviking69 The past DOES define the now and the now is still happening. Let's not live in LaLa land and pretend that blacks aren't still oppressed in this system of World White Supremacy- Satan's kingdom on earth.
ddsharper 6 months ago
@neoviking69

Who do you think you are listening to? This IS Sam Cooke. Your comment does not seem to make any sense unless you are talking about the video as opposed to the audio. In which case, say what you mean.

Good video, nice that you actually captured the power of the song with the pictures. The Robert Kennedy quote too, very few people know he ever said that. 68' was the year I think even.

It's a great song by a fine singer/songwriter. The original song had a subtle and universal message, but I think this well-meaning but politically naiive video doesn't do it justice. I hope I can say that without being rude, as you said you didn't make the video, you just uploaded it.

salman rushdie said that his only fear was that obama would turn out to be a wuss, too moderate to actively make a change in this country
it's not even his first 100 days yet in office, but at this rate it has not looked that impressive to be honest. Still, I have hope in him

barksdale85 2 years ago 8
