  • unique and soulful guitar. incredible!! Birthday Party a classic band but so short lived

  • ...just incredible...a dancing ghost...a stinging tear in the minds eye...heavyweight..

  • anyone know the chord progression at 1:08?

  • @SullenMorbius

he's got it tuned half a step up, so put a capo on 1st fret then it's

    Em, G, Am, Bm

    Em, C, Bm, Em

    Repeat

  • @Kirk11S thank you, kindly!

  • Amazing guy.

  • proves once again; less is more.

    so subtile how he played.

  • i wish he they would have done as rowland said....the guitar should have been more dominant in that song

  • HUGE !

  • Does this DVD really exist?

  • @crotchmustonenable buy it from birthday party official site, comes on a cdr dvd. Was wished out of existence when made.

  • Did he ever record an entire album just of those harmonics? I will give moneys for its

  • R.I.P. Rowland.

  • Michael Jackson wasn't the only. Post-punk also lost true men like Rowland S. Howard and Colin Sharp (ex Durutti Column singer). Rip Rowland & Colin.

  • RIP Rowland...Love U

  • he did what he did w/o compromise save for the fame of others around him slowing the creative process...I liked his approach

  • RIP Rowland..

  • Just found out about the passing of Rowland. Very sad news. Saw him late October in Sydney - and he was great. He did look sick in comparison to recently (saw him earlier in the yr at Nick Cave's ATP) - but did not hinder his guitar playing and songs. Very very sad news. I loved Rowland's authorative, fearless, sometimes sneering, sometimes sweet, always innovative ROCK. RIP ROWLAND.

  • amazing guitarist, so sad that hes gone

  • What the fuck? Nearly half of the original Birthday Party is dead now? They aren't even that old! With the passing of Roland S. Howard, alongside that of Lux Interior (The Cramps) earlier this year, not to mention ol' "Wacko Jacko," I nominate 2009 as one of the saddest years ever, for music at least!

  • Awesome clip of Rowland here. Jennifer's Veil and Several Sins my two fav Rowland B-day Party tunes. No one played quite like him...

  • It's so good to see him work, his beauty and authority unmatched.

  • What terrible news!

Rowland was a seriously pivotal musician!

    RIP

  • RIP

    your music lives forever

  • that might be one of the best chord progressions I've ever heard in the history of music. it is so emotionally involved and right when it reaches it's peak it sinisterly tip toes away. it's a monster arrangement . fuckin' a. RIP rowland s. howard...

  • Rest in peace Rowland ..

  • OH :(

  • Good bye Rowland, the world is emptier without you, will miss you too much

  • R.I.P.

  • RIP

  • Tears in my eyes.

    Goodbye, Rowland.

  • RIP, Rowland...

  • nice socks

  • Roland rules......Such a great guitar player!

  • Oh, Rowland! You beautiful creature... x

  • Incroyable :)

  • WOW

  • Rowland is god

  • WOW!

  • can anyone tell me what effect pedals he's using? cheers

  • it looks like an mxr blue box and distortion +. the blue box is mentioned in the bad seed biography, the dist + is a guess based on the casing colour/shape etc...

  • thanks mate :)

  • definitely a Dist +, I read an old Guitar World interview with him in it. At that time he had switched to only an EQ pedal used like an overdrive. Then I think he's switch back to the first two pedals. :-)

  • Does anyone know what tuning he used for this song?

  • @LardGargantuus Just E is all he ever used as far as I know.

  • Correction

It is a half step up

    F-A♯-D♯-G♯-C-F

  • @superchunk321

Do you just play it like normal guitar tuning only a 1/2 step up???

  • @yaledelay yes

  • In an interview he's said he only ever uses an MXR Distortion + , an MXR Blue Box, an Equalizer (Boss, I think) with everthing turned all the way up and a Fender Twin Reverb amp. I don't have to say anything about the guitar, do I?

  • this is awsome! quite simple what he does but sits so brilliantly with the music!

  • wicked stuff, please post up more !

cheers, a very old birthday party fan...x

  • ugh so great....

  • Yes...please put more of this up. This is amazing stuff for The Birthday Party and Rowland fans!!!

  • Please put more of this up!

  • Oh Rowland you stud..x

  • this would be just before he cracked the shits and jumped out.
