Outstanding performance video of a complicated song! Filled wall-to-wall with delightful Beatles influence, including that beautiful tone on the Hofner bass - good tribute to Sir Paul.
I do not think that the sound quality of two mentioned are really any different. It is how the sound configuration is. This one focuses on the the band members about 95%. Not to mention it is a totally different out take. The one that the person below is referring to as better quality is really just a way better balanced production of all the voices and all the instruments. Better quality video no. But well more inclusive of a recording.
Oh yeah, big time Beatles influence. More bands should take their direction. You can't go wrong listening to The Beatles. Even if you don't like The Bealtes, as a musician, studying their arrangements and harmonies will make you a better songwriter. They simply wrote the book on modern pop music and knew exactly how to write infectious melodies. I hear The Beatles all over this record. They used some of the same bass lines and chord progressions, which is why this album is so strong.
Yes, It is very Beatlesque. Curt wrote this song so the comment to get rid of Curt is adsurd. His voice is mellow to Roland's power. That is why without each other they never made it on a large scale. This version is not great. I saw the original STSOL tour. Awesome!!!!!!
@ritter89 Well said - and you're right on the money in hearing the influence of The Beatles in this song - particularily the non-touring Beatles, who could focus 100% of their energies / genius in the studio. It's impossible for me to listen to this great song and not hear the influence of "I Am The Walrus". The song has some edgier tones, which would be Lennon and then some more melodic parts, which, of course, would be McCartneyesque. Good post - thx.
Fantastique grandiose le chanteur sublime qui nous donne une grande envie d'évasion je ne me lasserai jamais d'enttendre cette chanson c'est tout simplement bon que du ++
they are just great, although Im not so crazy about the three ladies that r singing next to him, but Curt and Roland and the whole orchestra are majestic!!!
I just read all the comments and I have to agree! Except for one. I love Rolands hair now! It suits him. He doesn't need the curls. Check out the video of "Raoul and the Kings of Spain" and tell me he doesn't look Hot!
Oh man..you are sooooo right..he is incredibly hot in the video for Raoul and the Kings of Spain..... I think I was having more hot flashes or something!!!
I SPY TEARS IN MY EYES IF I DONT GET SOME NEW MATERIAL FROM TFF SOON last saw them on tour here in uk 2year ago on HAPPY ENDING TOUR better than ever as seen above MORE PLEASE
When I first heard this song, I was amazed hearing the intense and powerful a voice Orzabal had + wondered why Curt Smith had been lead for the previous songs with his thinner, reedy voice! It was like witnessing a supernova burst forth after straining to follow a firefly in the night sky. If anything Orzabal's voice has gotten even stronger, textured with a wider range in the intervening 17 years while Smith's has faded to the point of being barely audible even with the backing chorus.
saw them at Night of the Proms 26oct 2006 Sportpaleis, Antwerp (Texas was also there)...truely great to finaly see them live; thank you for uploading this!
I was waiting to hear them say "googoo goo joob" while they were singing this song

Why is it his voice is so sexy? He's not particularly beautiful in a traditional sense...so why do I want to get a hold of him??? ;-P

This song was ahead of it's time for this generation, with the hints of Beatles music and lyrics to think about.
To quote the poet Gregg Khin; "They don't write them like that anymore".
