  • Thumbs up if Entourage brought you here!

    great music

  • There were just a chosen few that were blessed enough to see these musicians live. And thanks to whatever higher power that allowed me to be one of them ! Blew me away. Yep mrstrat222, you were one also my brother. Southern champagne music !

  • How can anyone not like The Allman Brothers? Great tune! Thanks for uploading this song!!!!

  • Its among their best songs ever! I love the guitar is this!!! One of those songs that for some strange reason has been grossly overlooked as one of the greatest songs ever! (And being that I am from NY no one can say I am biased)

  • Leavell's piano solo is OFF THE HOOK. I think he was 17 or 18 when they recorded this. Saw the Allman Bros three times in the late 70's. It really was a dream come true for me when they got back together because they were my favorite band.

  • RIP Duane!

  • If anyone is interested, I have the music for the piano solo (labeled with pitches) on my website for free. Go to my profile, click the link to my site, then go to the "transcriptions" page for a PDF.

  • The Allman Brothers Band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995

  • pretty down home tune...kinda makes you wanna fuck your horse !

  • I play bass this song has a funky bassline. i cant listen to this song and NOT play.

  • and then music was born.

  • so Phish ripped of.......of this?? shit.

  • TYVM all the good music throughout the years. Steven.

  • * * * * *

    great tune

  • Yeap, my head swings back and forth like stevie wonder!

  • @ksr1219 LOL

  • awsome song but just wondering why did you add in 4 minutes of silence?

  • "At Fillmore East" is also listed in the top 100 albums of all time. I dont know how I missed that but it is on the list however "brothers and sisters" should also be on it in my humble opinion.

  • Great to be back and to listen to the greatest band in the world. Never get tired of these "real" muso's ! Their 2 greatest albums of "eat a Peach" and "brothers and sisters" are surely in the top 10 list of albums ever made.I looked recently in the top 100 list and only "eat a peach" is listed. Very hard to understand how they are not on the top 10.Can never get enough of them. Sorry about my long delayed reply but been away travelling.

  • 3 justin bieber-fans ;-)

  • This and "Ramblin Man" were one of Dicky Bett's best. Then of course there's Chuck LeVelle on that piano! Dynamite!!

  • love the drums

  • AWESOMENESS!!!!! One of their best and I agree, it's hard to sit still during this song!

  • vicksburg bound!

    yeah :-))

    thank you

  • Had no idea where I was a-headin' before I listened to this but now I know I'm definitely headin' SOUTHBOUND! lol

  • Iffin' he starts a'pickin' that any better----I'll fall offin' my porch!!! XD

  • This song is really fun to jam on.

  • @Mr061099 dickey wrote this song and is the one on the solo. just lettin you know RIP Duane for sure though

  • you can still see them live, well half of em, but still mind blowing. check Tampa/ st. pete Bradenton during "fests". ribfests etc....

  • RIP Duane Allman

  • doobie smokin music!

  • 2 dislikes??? Must be 2 aliens from another planet....How can anyone dislike this???What rubbish do you rot your brain with??? probably (c)rap

  • @Reubennige after you get over that last hill, it makes a sharp left... :)

  • the better question is why is the song 9:23 long when all the sound ends before the 6 minute mark

  • @TheJuunit21 youtube probably processed it incorrectly.

  • There are 2 dumb asses on YouTube!

  • herd this song on entourage.

  • @dp9241lover i heard this song in my dreams

  • @tbrowne19 that sounds like that would be cool.

  • this is odd...... the album cover shows a road going west ..?

  • Southern Rock just freakin Rulez !!!!

  • Southern rock is just awesome !!!

  • One of my favorite ABB tunes.

  • i just accidentally got a boogie on my woogie while i was listening to this

  • im southbound,

  • If I remember right it was Wasted words,Ramblin Man,Come and Go Blues and Jelly Jelly on the first side The Second side went Southbound,Jessica and last was Pony Boy. I Think it was back in the 70s so I might be wrong....I am surprised I remember that much

  • My all time favorite Allman Brothers song !!!

  • It was on BROTHERS AND SISTERS Album first, That whole side of B&S was the best I ever heard. First album I ever owned

  • @65Wildkat jessica was next after this?

  • It was on BROTHERS AND SISTERS Album first

  • It was on BROTHERS AND SISTERS Album first

  • CLASSIC !!!!! CLASSIC !!!!! CLASSIC !!!!!

  • I saw the ABB 2 times at the Fox in Atlanta, first when I was 16 and had just gotten my liscense. My old man would have killed me if he knew I had gone downtown to a concert and sparked the whole time!! Wet Willy, Marshall Tucker Band, the Outlaws, and the J Geils band were acts that played with them though I can't remember which played at which!!Thats a good indicator of how much fun I had! A while back someone asked my fav band ever, ABB immediately came out. 35 yrs later, still the same!!

  • I thought this was on Brother's and Sister's..side two back in the vinyl days..

  • @stablejelly

    yes, chuck level(sp) on piano.

  • yes yes

  • This is one of the best songs ever.

  • i heard this song for the first time in a long time and just had to get my gibson les paul out and play along......what a fantastic piece of guitaring. you just won't find a sound like this again....but i am trying!!

  • This cut is also on the "Brothers and Sisters" lp. With Ramblin' Man and Jessica.

  • i like the live fast version,

  • THE Greatest southern rock band of all time!

  • The Greatest blues/rock, rock band who happens to be from the south :))

  • @builderpro52 ahem..*cough*..Skynyrd! naw, but those two along with The Doors are my 3 favorite American rock bands.

  • Shroooms Shrooms MANNN

  • skykeys, all I can say is right on bro :) my first and favorite album was brother's and sister's :)

  • @DaDutchman1 best damn rock band of any kind

  • This song is sooo bad ass!!! Are they still on tour ?

  • Yes, they are in NYC for a series of 8 dates that ends on 3/20. I saw them last week and they were kick-ass. I then, just by chance, met Derek Trucks because we stayed at his hotel (coincidentally!).

  • mind blowing music.....what a pleasure to hear this!

  • One of the interesting musical characteristics of this particularly recording is the complimentary rhythms between the guitar (played by Dicky Betts) and the piano (played by Chuck Leavell). Terrific stuff. Those guys are both great players. Their respective melodic leads on this song are also very good. This recording was first released on the "Brothers and Sisters" album in 1973. The classic song Jessica was also released on that album.

  • hey northernlimit, ever heard of TMI ? Just freakin enjoy the music ,o.k.? Who died and left you as a critic of the best damn band in southern rock, hmm?

  • sweet daddy's on his way

  • such a good tune !

  • Is it just me or do i hear Albert Collins in here-at the start?

  • I'm not sure this particular cut is actually from the Road Goes on Forever album. RGF was released twice, first in '75 under Capricorn with no Southbound and the second release with an expanded compilation as a CD in 2001 and had Southbound as a live recording, but this doesn't appear to be live although there is a lot silence, so...if it's the live recording Collins might be on it as he opened for them in San Francisco, but if it's the original studio recording then obviously he's not.

  • Thanks for the info obviously :) .

  • @northernlimit

I have the first release of RGF under Capricorn (on LP) and this is the version plays on it

  • @northernlimit

This is the live version from the "Wipe the Windows..." album. That's Chuck on piano.

  • ya i hear it also.....= )

  • beautiful song, and only the sleeve of this record would be enough to put this video in the favorites!

  • Woohoo!!!

I just CAN'T sit still while listening to this song:-)

  • @JackieGoWest that's a rather noticable pattern to dickey's songs

  • @JackieGoWest :) no doubt . The Brothers make me move too (:

  • GREAT TUNE!!!!

  • why does the description say "music only"? i hear voices...

  • it's because there isn't a video, only music with an image

  • @sbnewman You're schizophrenic then.

  • @sbnewman singing is music too

  • @sbnewman a voice creates music the same as any other instrument my friend

  • @sbnewman do you hear voices? Oh that's serious! Really serious. You weren't supposed to hear any voices here. You'd better go see a doctor urgently.

  • I love all types of rock including some screamo but let mje say this, this is one of my favorite ongs of all time. Dicky sure as hell can play. I'm surpised though, the guitar is this is a Gibson, that is a real shocker.

  • Classic Allman Brothers!

  • The greatest rock band in the world and I surely don't know how only 11,550 have viewed and listened to such a fantastic rock song. These guys are real musicians and not the rubbish you mainly find today.Wish I could have seen them live in concert for there surely could'nt have been a better live band anywhere around.

  • I had tickets to see them 3 times ....dates got sick cars broke down..bummer

  • @blues2win Right on!!

  • @blues2win because they are busy listening to this >> watch?v=0_EFdod4YDo

  • @blues2win Saw them live in Greensboro NC in the early 1970's and they played for over three hours. To date the only concert better was the Rolling Stones in the 1980's. I saw the Allman Brothers Band a few years ago and they were not as good, a little too commercial but excellent. Another great concert band of that era was Little Feat.

  • I was at the Live at Filmore concert. I saw the original band 6 or 7 times before Duane passed!!! I saw them after and they had T. Levitz playing those piano parts. Greg is a great singer and a decent Hammond player, but he could never cut these piano parts!! I saw them close the filmore down....last show of the era!!!! They finished at 6AM. What a band!!!!

  • @mrstrat222 - Damn, what a show that must have been! I'd have stayed until 9 am for the show to finish - bands dont do that cool stuff anymore

  • @mrstrat222 - sorry for the mis info, It was Chuck Leavell on piano!! Please no disrespect to Greg, a great "tasty" B3 player!! He knows what to play. I wish I had one speck of his talent!!! Growing up in NYC and being at the Filmore...all of the time, never realized how lucky I was!! it was no big deal to just drive into the Filmore and see touring bands and of course pick up the hippy chicks....Oh Yea! Don't bogart that Joint! LOL!!!

  • @mrstrat222 Lucky fellow you are, sounds amazing.

  • @blues2win they still gig... just Duane is gone (R.I.P.) and Dickie got booted... Still a GREAT Band... Warren Haynes Kills it ! Everytime !

  • @glassmaninboulder And Derek Trucks is fucking amazing!!

  • @blues2win

you still can see them live. And Dickey Betts has his own band, Great Southern

  • @blues2win (comes back two years later) hey look at the views now

  • really?

  • thanx for the doc watson, by the way.. be good.. .. :)

  • anytime man :)

  • southbound and down south jukin

  • I saw dickey last summer and he crushed this one :)

  • too bad he couldn't keep his shit together long enough to keep the Brothers together even longer...

  • I'm attending a camp where they expect us to learn like 10 songs.

    Southbound included.

No one can do it like the Allman Brothers.

  • Nice song but why is there all that time of silence?...lol

  • Totally HOT and sexxxx...yyyyy! Yeah, baby!

  • DON'T BOGART-- WINK WINK-- LOVE THIS

  • once you find a somebody your age that listens to the same music you'll be instant friends. i had a friend in high school that loved the same music i did and we're still great friends.

  • allman brothers at their best

  • I would go back to the sixties/seventies :\ fuck..

  • @allienato you woulda loved it.. cops were either for or against, not as many mind games like today..

  • @allienato I'd like to have been there in the first place. 60's-80's, three of my favorite decades for music.

  • @CaptainHollyShort y, in first place at Fillmore East rock palace!

  • @CaptainHollyShort I was born in 1961 and I love the 60's 70's and 80's

  • @CaptainHollyShort Been there, done that, don't recall much. Had a buddy of mine tell me yesterday a girl from back then was looking for me. I asked why and he said you either blanked her or took her to church. I said knowing me I blanked her in the church. It was fun back then...you missed a lot.

  • Possibly my favorite song of all time!!! I'm 23 yrs old and I crank this stuff up in my truck like there's no tomorrow. Guys my age just don't know what music used to be or should be.

  • They will eventually, and they'll regret not listening to you sooner.

  • Im 47 and I know your on the right track

Allman Bros been rockin my world since way back in the early 70s

    Keep Rockin the Blues :)

  • INCENSE BURNIN-- FIREPLACE ON...DOOBIE BLAZED UP--OHH yeaaaahhhhh!!

  • i understand dude i'm 16 in high school and the only one who listens and plays the blues.

  • do you happen to know who The Black Keys are? If you don't you should listen to their early albums. They're the only modern band playing killer blues rock.

  • i just checked them out they're pretty good. Do they have a bassist? The best modern blues is the derek trucks band

  • They're the only modern band playing killer blues rock. on the charts they do kill it but if your 16 you cant go out to the bars and clubs to find this stuff. so good point but its out there man.
