"Two Guns-Balls Out" was another talented band in the 70's that was signed to Capricorn Records. Check out their music on youtube it is a sound of its own and considered a southern rock n roll classic!!!
There were just a chosen few that were blessed enough to see these musicians live. And thanks to whatever higher power that allowed me to be one of them ! Blew me away. Yep mrstrat222, you were one also my brother. Southern champagne music !
Its among their best songs ever! I love the guitar is this!!! One of those songs that for some strange reason has been grossly overlooked as one of the greatest songs ever! (And being that I am from NY no one can say I am biased)
Leavell's piano solo is OFF THE HOOK. I think he was 17 or 18 when they recorded this. Saw the Allman Bros three times in the late 70's. It really was a dream come true for me when they got back together because they were my favorite band.
If anyone is interested, I have the music for the piano solo (labeled with pitches) on my website for free. Go to my profile, click the link to my site, then go to the "transcriptions" page for a PDF.
"At Fillmore East" is also listed in the top 100 albums of all time. I dont know how I missed that but it is on the list however "brothers and sisters" should also be on it in my humble opinion.
Great to be back and to listen to the greatest band in the world. Never get tired of these "real" muso's ! Their 2 greatest albums of "eat a Peach" and "brothers and sisters" are surely in the top 10 list of albums ever made.I looked recently in the top 100 list and only "eat a peach" is listed. Very hard to understand how they are not on the top 10.Can never get enough of them. Sorry about my long delayed reply but been away travelling.
If I remember right it was Wasted words,Ramblin Man,Come and Go Blues and Jelly Jelly on the first side The Second side went Southbound,Jessica and last was Pony Boy. I Think it was back in the 70s so I might be wrong....I am surprised I remember that much
I saw the ABB 2 times at the Fox in Atlanta, first when I was 16 and had just gotten my liscense. My old man would have killed me if he knew I had gone downtown to a concert and sparked the whole time!! Wet Willy, Marshall Tucker Band, the Outlaws, and the J Geils band were acts that played with them though I can't remember which played at which!!Thats a good indicator of how much fun I had! A while back someone asked my fav band ever, ABB immediately came out. 35 yrs later, still the same!!
i heard this song for the first time in a long time and just had to get my gibson les paul out and play along......what a fantastic piece of guitaring. you just won't find a sound like this again....but i am trying!!
Yes, they are in NYC for a series of 8 dates that ends on 3/20. I saw them last week and they were kick-ass. I then, just by chance, met Derek Trucks because we stayed at his hotel (coincidentally!).
One of the interesting musical characteristics of this particularly recording is the complimentary rhythms between the guitar (played by Dicky Betts) and the piano (played by Chuck Leavell). Terrific stuff. Those guys are both great players. Their respective melodic leads on this song are also very good. This recording was first released on the "Brothers and Sisters" album in 1973. The classic song Jessica was also released on that album.
hey northernlimit, ever heard of TMI ? Just freakin enjoy the music ,o.k.? Who died and left you as a critic of the best damn band in southern rock, hmm?
I'm not sure this particular cut is actually from the Road Goes on Forever album. RGF was released twice, first in '75 under Capricorn with no Southbound and the second release with an expanded compilation as a CD in 2001 and had Southbound as a live recording, but this doesn't appear to be live although there is a lot silence, so...if it's the live recording Collins might be on it as he opened for them in San Francisco, but if it's the original studio recording then obviously he's not.
I love all types of rock including some screamo but let mje say this, this is one of my favorite ongs of all time. Dicky sure as hell can play. I'm surpised though, the guitar is this is a Gibson, that is a real shocker.
The greatest rock band in the world and I surely don't know how only 11,550 have viewed and listened to such a fantastic rock song. These guys are real musicians and not the rubbish you mainly find today.Wish I could have seen them live in concert for there surely could'nt have been a better live band anywhere around.
@blues2win Saw them live in Greensboro NC in the early 1970's and they played for over three hours. To date the only concert better was the Rolling Stones in the 1980's. I saw the Allman Brothers Band a few years ago and they were not as good, a little too commercial but excellent. Another great concert band of that era was Little Feat.
I was at the Live at Filmore concert. I saw the original band 6 or 7 times before Duane passed!!! I saw them after and they had T. Levitz playing those piano parts. Greg is a great singer and a decent Hammond player, but he could never cut these piano parts!! I saw them close the filmore down....last show of the era!!!! They finished at 6AM. What a band!!!!
@mrstrat222 - sorry for the mis info, It was Chuck Leavell on piano!! Please no disrespect to Greg, a great "tasty" B3 player!! He knows what to play. I wish I had one speck of his talent!!! Growing up in NYC and being at the Filmore...all of the time, never realized how lucky I was!! it was no big deal to just drive into the Filmore and see touring bands and of course pick up the hippy chicks....Oh Yea! Don't bogart that Joint! LOL!!!
once you find a somebody your age that listens to the same music you'll be instant friends. i had a friend in high school that loved the same music i did and we're still great friends.
@CaptainHollyShort Been there, done that, don't recall much. Had a buddy of mine tell me yesterday a girl from back then was looking for me. I asked why and he said you either blanked her or took her to church. I said knowing me I blanked her in the church. It was fun back then...you missed a lot.
Possibly my favorite song of all time!!! I'm 23 yrs old and I crank this stuff up in my truck like there's no tomorrow. Guys my age just don't know what music used to be or should be.
