@AMCDecker It's an old Federal Signal EOWS SiraTone controller from sometime in the 80's. Couldn't find a date on it anywhere.. but these things are serious crap.. and are known for constant problems and major failures. This one blew a few audio amps (those boxes with the LED on each one) and the tone card started to drop pitch pretty severely after this was shot. If you guys want an electronic siren, I'd stick to something from Whelen. They make REALLY good stuff.. especially emergency lights!
Charlie..........does the village of Dickson, the cops, or your local fire department ever give you flak about sounding off your sirens ? In my small town on Long Island, a person would be arrested if they sounded off a siren.
@Lapp6192 Never had any problems here! I had the cops called on me once by a stupid neighbor who thought it'd be funny.. but the cops were blown away when they found out what it was and how it works. They thanked me for providing a community service and said to "keep up the excellent work" and not to worry about neighbors that complain about it, as long as I use it only during the monthly test and for tornado warnings. We live in a very tornado-prone area, so that's probably why they don't mind.
@soccerdude7330 - That's great that the cops don't bother you about it. Have you been officially designated by your town, as the person to sound off tornado warning sirens if there is an actual tornado ? I figured that your local fire department would be responsible for that, or maybe Dickson's village hall would have a tornado siren.
Charlie..........the yellow siren control box in this video comes from Long Island, NY. East Farmingdale is a town about 30 minutes from where I live.
@Lapp6192 Really? That's interesting.. I'll have to do some research on that. This one came from an FD so it shouldn't be too hard to hunt down. I'd be interested in figuring out what kind of siren it ran at some point.
@soccerdude7330 - East Farmingdale on Long Island has its own volunteer fire department, so that yellow siren control box was definitely used for their fire house. As for what type of siren it operated - I do not know. I don't get to East Farmingdale that often, but I will make a note to myself to photograph the firehouse and their current siren the next time I am over there and I will e-mail the photographs to you.
@MisterSnowman97 Just a hobby of mine. Sometimes I've helped out in service and installation of them however. I use my siren just as a public service.
@soccerdude7330 hahahahaah i joke, but you make awesome videos mate, i love your videos though! keep it up :) If i belted one of them sirens where i live the CIA NASA the FBI etc... would be up my arse so fast ahahah
I love the way this thing sounds on level 6! Have you ever thought about trying it out on 4? You should be able to get better coverage out of it on 4, especially since the mount is about half as high as most other Tbolts.
Just proves that cameras and recorders that were made in the 1980's were built to last, and make good quality recordings. I have an old GE tape recorder, probably from the 1970's, that some of my early siren recordings were made on, and it's excelent. The motor hum on that camera reminds me of my old recordings.
@sirenaddict It's for an old Model 2. It's just been outside for a long time.. probably since the early 1900's. Metal rusts through after nearly 100 years of sitting outside!
@zozey1231 Yeah, I worked on that stupid thing for almost two days straight trying to get it going. So far it has 2 dead amps, but hey, it works. Even though it's around 28 years old.
@soccerdude7330 They've got the EOWS 612 out in Egypt where I was for a year. I ran a cable from the control to inside so we could turn it on from the office, and plug the mic or ipod in.
You should get a VFD, then you can power up the three phase motors (from a single phase source), and control their speeds!
here is a sound video of the east Farmingdale thunderbolt sounding
