  • The reason why Japan was able to compete wt China's cheap labor and preserve her manufacturing base and manufacturing manpower base is because of heavy re-investments in her core hard industries. She automated around her labor force for labor flexibility and efficiency, then went on to robot-driven automation until it went to full computerization robot-driven automation to androids. And her economic policies is oriented to protect and maintain her domestic manufacturing industries and manpower.

  • china is the reason they can manufacture all of what we do for a fraction of the price they dont have to pay workers or have osha regs or epa inspections

  • Bullshit. The number of manufacturing jobs has decreased in all western countries, mainly because of productivity growth. But as a share of real GDP, US manufacturing output has remained pretty stable in the last 60 years: 16-18% (inflation-adjusted values). US trade deficit are 100% about energy and consumer goods, not industrial supplies and finished capital goods. A consequence of relaxed monetary policies (aka easy money) and low taxes on consumption.

  • @xaviqaz Correct. Manufacturing jobs are decreasing because of increased productivity and automation. China is one aspect but not the main reason.

  • @xaviqaz That is the key line: Productivity Growth. These days Americans dont believe in those words because there is no honor in the American economy let alone earning the $. Nobody wants to work for it anymore and no American wants to work jobs that are available.

  • This video said at least three different times that "china cheats" could someone tell me how they are "cheating"? I'm not trying to be combative, just wanted this cleared up.

  • @shleesauce economyincrisis org/content/another-chinese-industry-caught-gaming-system

  • @shleesauce People see China pegging their currency value to the dollar as "cheating". A sovereign nation can do whatever they wish with their currency values. If Americans weren't so hung up on buying more and more Chinese junk that we don't need, it wouldn't matter. China's monetary policy is backfiring - the inflation we've been having is spreading to them, as evidenced by them raising their interest rates twice.

  • I have never seen such a video so full of propagander

  • Lets take a baseball bat to the US Chamber of Commerce before they kill every manufacturing job we have left.

  • @MsZeitgeist85 Manufacturing output per capita in 2010 (IHS Global Insight): - Japan: 8109 $ - Germany: 7582 $ - United States: 6265 $ - Canada: 5847 $ - Italy: 5177 $ - South Korea: 4912 $ - France: 3900 $ - UK: 3762 $ - Spain: 3538 $ - Mexico: 1597 $ - Russia: 1566 $ - China: 1495 $ - Brazil: 1353 $ - Indonesia: 738 $ - India: 184 $ Considering that Germany and Japan lose population, while USA adds 3 million people each year
  • we need more job like these in america and the econmy

  • @yxhe

We already do, our ancestors may have had a 6th grade education and they built everything we use today. Collage is not in every ones future. If we all went for higher education, eventually a masters degree will pay 10 bucks an hour.. We need to bring back the value of a high school education, and bring back jobs for working folks.

Other countries are doing it cheaper. They're not necessarily any more educated than you or I.

  • Everything we buy at the mall is made in China.

My grandparents can remember a time when shoes were made in a city nearby.

Even furniture was made at the edge of the city!

    All shut down by now.

  • i know how to bring back our country's manufacturing capability. What's the only thing cheaper than Chinese labor? ROBOTS! Not like today's robots. Imagine a whole factory filled with futuristic robot workers that can do everything humans do but are still not self aware so you don't have to pay them and they work 24/7 don't get sick don't rest etc. And they'll be able to make more of themselves so after the first thousand or so they'll be cheap as hell affordable by everyone.

  • Additionally, the demand of the market has changed dramatically since the last boom of manufactring. Customers may be willing to purchase those big Ford and GM cars when the gasoling price was under 1 dollar per gallon in the good-old-days. However, what's the gas price now?

    Innovation+work ethic+education= the next boom

  • Rich? ha ha ha I get 255 a week from unemployment! I have a wife who cannot work due to a back injury and 3 kids. I am far from rich. I didn't know rich people lived in mobile homes and drove old vehicles either. I wish I was rich! or even wealthy or hell just had enough to get by and play with a little money lol.

  • Does it mean that you can get a stable income without any job? That's kind of wealthy...

  • I wish! It's nearly impossible! I have my lights shut off twice! Thanks to some good freinds. I've been able to do a few side jobs for cash and selling some things to make a few extra dollars. So yeah it is hard trust me. I'm not making this up

  • well, I sincerely hope your conditions get better in the coming 2010. Good luck to you and may God be with you!

  • Well, even through manufacturing is always the "engine of our economy", it has to be updated from time to time. With the advance of technology and science, the workers should have higher educations than their hard-working ancestors to handle the challenges.

  • That is so true!

    methodistgirl

  • lets get rid of the illegal immigrants and quit fucking bying from FUCKIN CHINA! FUCK ALL THOSE FUCKERS! BUY AMERICAN YOU FOOLS OR YOUR JUST FUCKING YOURSELF!

  • @ryanb788

If everyone is as rich as you are, then people may be pleasure to buy the American products, which cost relatively more than the exports. But are we that rich?

  • Germans and Japanese make the best products in the world.

  • Americans make the best products in the world And are watched and policed by all American citizens to make sure products are made safely as can be Or they are fined or sued. Companys that leave USA in make products elsewhere is for low standers ,slave wages, ect Other countries have much more closed markets. In japan only 5% of there cars are foreign made because of there gov. and there more patroitic. Many Americans used to be, lets be again. Go on line to USA MADE. Fair decent jobs USA MADE.

  • The Unions and Government are strangling manufacturing.

  • Amen!

  • Well I for one am a welder capable of standing on my own two feet without a labor union or bureaucrat stealing tax money for me.

  • @BanjoNaps

    So you want slavery back?

12 hrs day and 6 days a week?

    Company script?

    Company store?

    STFU

  • @worldsailor128 Slavery has been back for a while idiot. Their called "private prison factories" and the are filled mainly with non violent offenders of african and Latino decent.

I am a welder and I mostly work 12-14 hour shifts 6-7 days a week.

Why would I work for a company like that?

Why would I work for a company like that?

The value of the dollar is being destroyed. When it is. You will most likely die. You know this is true. You know you are useless and depend fully on china.

  • Outsourcing is destroying this Country! These greedy ceo and top exectutives who choose to send the manufacturing abroad are destroying this GREAT Country of ours. It's unpatriotic, it's selling out your Country. I can't believe that We the People are letting this happen. Screw these traitors! If you want to go build a factory in China then you should get hell out this Country. Your Un American and ought to be lined up and shot!!! Figuratively speaking.

  • Hell yes. Great video.

I work in aerospace manufacturing and its annoying to see a huge company prefer to buy parts made over seas rather than here in the states. 'Cause thats my job they just put at risk.

  • I think... okay, I'll dare to make a comment (and present an opinion), if we could convince the other countries that do things more cheaply than us to adopt more rigorous safety standards and safe working conditions that maybe it would make things a little less... cheap to buy premanufactured from other places.

    Has that been tried already?

  • Great video!

Kucinich 2008! Let's get out of NAFTA and the WTO!

  • NAFTA isn't the problem its trade with places like China NAFTA gives us vital goods like crude oil and natural gas that we import from Canada and the Mexico. its countries ike CHina who heavy substdise their industries and offer cheap labour that are stealing our jobs.

  • This is an important issue and a great video presentation. If everyone could see it and follow up, we could strengthen manufacturing in America.
