This video is much better than the official videos from the manufacturer's with generic music and angles changing so quickly that you can't tell whats going on.
1 downside. u can NOT run them to empty. Once they reach about 6ish volts per cell you have to recharge. most new speed controllers have a voltage cut-off for lipos. If u run them past that line, then ur lipo will not come back no matter how many times u recharge it. read the manual.
i'd give the nod to the firestorm. i own a rustler and it leaves a bit to be desired in the handling department. the firestorm is almost, if not just as tough as the rustler, but can be competitive on the track out of the box.
Could someone tell me witch brushless sytem is better the mamba sidewinder or the vxl system. Im gonna go brushless with my slash but dont know what to get. Thought about the mamba max but it cost to much.
i remeber when i didnt even have my slash and i used to watch this vid about every day.. still one badass run.. this vid may just be why i bought my slash.
so, in your opinion, whit on the most resistent truck? the hpi e-firestom or traxxas rustler? and what upgrades did do in e-firestorm beyond the motor and esc?
You mentioned that you've got serious overheating problems with your 4600. I think that's because 83/19 is geared incredibly high for that motor; Castle recommends a 90t spur and 14-19t pinion. If you tried gearing down to 90/16 or so, I think you'd run a lot cooler. And you said yourself it's faster than it needs to be, so you're not really losing anything in the process.
Electric is good for only 1 thing and thats rock crawling. i gurantee my traxxas revo 2.5 could out jump outrun and outlast any electric car out there without tuning it. I know this because i've been through 3 electric cars from traxxas. This is why i have a Revo. :)
ur mad my friend brushless is much faster and maintenence free i have a HPI e-firestorm flux running 5700 mamba 23 tooth pinion on a lrp 5300 28c lipo it does 67mph gps but out accelarates EVERYTHING brushless is the way forward
I admit electric does out accelerate everything but they are not faster than a gas car. If you dont believe me then type in 200 mph rc car in your search bar. ;)
you could easily gear a brushless motor to go faster than gas, but who wants to drive a car thats going to be a quarter of a mile away in a couple of seconds, low end torque is where it's at
Well that isn't rc it is cable big difference because it has a long time to rev up and by the way fastest RC is electric officially so nitro can fucking suck it
Not that nitro sucks just it isn't best at anything but is awesome at noise and smell
At the moment maby but if someone will take the time to tune and re-gear a gas truck i promise it would be faster. But lets see how long that electric truck runs its top speed b4 its battery runs out. XD
Hey which is better? THe firestorm or the slash? I am maybe gonna get one of those. And yeah Broom0908. Electric is better than nitro. But you can get faster on nitro but electric is better.
Well, I have a Slash and it is fantastic. Real fun truck for racing and messing around, I've run it in the snow by me a few times too, its very fun. And yes, electric is better. Easier to maintain, faster acceleration, and cheaper.
Yes, you're definetely having fun when your ears are buzzing because of that noise and your eyes are weeping because of all that smoke - oh, if you happen to get your nitro engine running on that particular funny day, that is. :D
The price range is quite wide for brushless motors. You can get one for around 30$ and the top end motors can cost 200$ (for bigger cars double the prices).
The motor will get quite hot - dunno what's with Castle motors, they've always been running so hot that I had to keep cooling breaks (temps near 200F). Also the ESC get's quite hot with 3S, I'd suggest a fan on top. Haven't got any temp probs with MM & 4S, so I presume the heating is caused from the internal bec, dunno for sure?
iv gt a firestorm flux its a great piece of kit with 2 cell 5000mah lipo im really proud of it cuz its really fast at least 50mph+ but takes a good beating
Actually yes - I replaced the HPI slipper with Traxxas one using Jato input shaft & slipper parts. This was done mainly because of the limited gearing options that HPI has with Firestorm. Dunno the current situation, but at the time there was only one size spur available but with Traxxas slipper system I could use anything from Stampede/Rustler 48p, Jato/E-Maxx 32p to Revo's mod1 gears. Also the slipper construction is better. ;)
wow, the e-firestorm is SUPER fast.. Looks like the only one with paddles? that would explain some of the speed difference, tires can make a world of difference. Because i KNOW its not the systems holding any of the cars back =).. Very nice array of trucks and nice video!
witch 1 do you think is better, the HPI E-Firestorm or the Traxxas slash XD (DON'T ANSWER), i wish i coul seen your face when u read this, seeing that u said you get the question a lot, nice vid.
Aaah come on.. I've replied this question so many times on my video comments. They're both good on their own "area", pick the one you like the most - shouldn't go wrong. :)
lol this is not funny my traxxas stampede ele i just got3 dasy ago i was jumping 1.5feet jumps and landed and i heard my spur spur spocet grinding the enger spocket lol broke the 3dasy ...had 3teeth missing =(
I find the extra ground clearance of the slash makes for a better basher. But the tires are more all terrain. For grass and sand you'll find they don't grip very well. You can put stadium truck tires (firestorm) on a slash but it ruins the scale appearance. Also the slash is more forgiving on a bad bounce or jump where the firestorm bottoms out a lot. In the end you'll enjoy both but I'm picking the Slash as my favorite basher.
sweet video, bashing place, trucks and driving! the slashes were awesome! what kind of tires did the firestorm have? it didnt look like it was having any trouble gripping at all!
Well it is, with same voltage used. Velineon gives you 3500kv (rpm/volt) and Xcelorin 4800kv. Ofcourse Slash is quite a bit heavier than the E-Firestorm.
E-Firestorm has Panther Paddles in this clip and the traction on sand is unbelievable, which can be seen when the car is accelerating.
do u know how hot the sw 4600 motor was getting in the slash? u said u were geared 19/83, im running a sw 4600 in my slash on 5000mah 3s at 22/90 and in about 4 minutes its at 160f,
It got very hot, topping near 190F. Had to let it cool down often, which why I don't like those high kv motors anymore. Smaller kv gives a more runtime in terms of temperatures. 3500kv is definetely the highest that I will ever get.
oh, wow, 190, well i was running a 5700 on 2s, that went 0-40 mph in about 3 seconds, and kept real cool, like 110F, now ive put that in a stampede and it works fine, im stuck with the 4600 now though, so i better make the best of it. castle creations tech support told me to turn down the timing, wich should reduce temp and increase torque, i want wheelies! LOL.
e-Firestorm sounds more solid

is there anything done to the transmission or differential in the e firestorm?
rcvxl24 3 years ago
Actually yes - I replaced the HPI slipper with Traxxas one using Jato input shaft & slipper parts. This was done mainly because of the limited gearing options that HPI has with Firestorm. Dunno the current situation, but at the time there was only one size spur available but with Traxxas slipper system I could use anything from Stampede/Rustler 48p, Jato/E-Maxx 32p to Revo's mod1 gears. Also the slipper construction is better. ;)
Otherwise the gearbox internals were stock.
finbilly 3 years ago
what is better in your opinion the vxl system on 3s lipo or the sidewinder system on 3s lipo?
rcthrasher 3 years ago
From those I'd choose VXL, since it runs much cooler than any of the Sidewinder or Mamba Max combos.
Then again if it would be possible, I'd take MM or Sidewinder esc and Velineon 3500 combo... :)

Depends from what you are planning to do with it. E-Firestorm is better for plain bashing & jumping, Slash for general driving/racing.
finbilly 3 years ago
I find the extra ground clearance of the slash makes for a better basher. But the tires are more all terrain. For grass and sand you'll find they don't grip very well. You can put stadium truck tires (firestorm) on a slash but it ruins the scale appearance. Also the slash is more forgiving on a bad bounce or jump where the firestorm bottoms out a lot. In the end you'll enjoy both but I'm picking the Slash as my favorite basher.
gregzielinski 3 years ago
It's only good that the chassis takes part of the impact on high/bad landings. This helps on keeping the shocks & shock towers in one piece. :)
Keep some Slash bumpers near if you plan to bash with it.

Dunno, both are good in their own class. E-Firestorm is good stadium truck and Slash is good "scale" off-road race truck.
finbilly 3 years ago
which system do u like best on the e-firestorm ?
The xcelorin 4800 or the sidewinder 4600 ?
Ev1er 3 years ago
My choice would be the Sidewinder because of it's programming options.
finbilly 3 years ago
what about if u thought about performance ?
Ev1er 3 years ago
There's so little difference, if any, in performance that it's not the deciding factor.
finbilly 3 years ago
O.o Xcelorin got programming also. PC/Card.
Raptorduder 3 years ago
I'm quite aware of that. Still Castle's esc programming options (=adjustability) beats Losi hands down, and that's just my personal opinion. :)
finbilly 3 years ago

VXL was geared 25/83 and mine was 19/83. We haven't tried out which one is faster, but with those gears I'd put my money on the VXL.

oh, wow, 190, well i was running a 5700 on 2s, that went 0-40 mph in about 3 seconds, and kept real cool, like 110F, now ive put that in a stampede and it works fine, im stuck with the 4600 now though, so i better make the best of it. castle creations tech support told me to turn down the timing, wich should reduce temp and increase torque, i want wheelies! LOL.
