Actually the ice in the water will decrease in volume... it's not a huge decrease but it is a LOT of ice... just like an iceberg.. 90% is below the surface
I agree not a huge decrease but basically the decrease wouldn't split the difference of the increase from land ice melting and I don't mean if all of it melted just if the melted around the same rates they are now, but as soon as the water ice is gone it will only be water raise.

I agree with crazizzle85, the Earth has been cooling since 1998. The sun appears to be entering a series of low solar minimums that could be the beginning of another ice age within 100 years. Cap & Trade is getting slipped by us while it still can before it's obvious we are cooling down.
The idea of "climate change" being substituted for Global Warming seems like amusing to me. No, when climate CHANGES they can claim it's a problem. I thought the point of Global Warming was that we had a relatively stable enviorment that was being warmed up recently by CO2 emissions. Sceptics, mean while, pointed out that the planet goes through heating and cooling cycles.
Reid said the Senate is moving at a much slower speed than the House on passing a comprehensive energy bill, but added that he hopes to combine energy and climate bills in a single piece of legislation the Senate would be ready to vote on in the fall.
So if Reid says it will be in the fall, my guess would be that they will try to push it through sooner than that to take us off guard!

Even Obama's EPA suggests that this will barely make a dent in actually reducing CO2 by any measurable levels and we already know that China and India will not be on board and without them this legislation will impact the environment even less.

..that being said, once American consumers curb their demand for energy the "punishment" will be negligible...my only criticism with this bill is that it doesn't address the international issue. If we don't find a way to get China or India on board, not only will the environmental impact be negligible, energy companies will in fact look overseas. If you are going to attack anything about this bill, attack that aspect.

I'll say what politicians on the left won't say...it will punish consumers, thats the point. Tax credits won't make producers push green products if there is no demand for them. The only reason demand for energy efficient vehicles increased last summer was because gas was more than $4.00 a gallon, and I'm not naive, I know GE and Shell have endorsed this bill because it benefits them...Obama and the Dems are as beholden to corporate interests as the GOP...but the GOP has offered no solution.

The solution is to cap greenhouse gas emissions, I think that is pretty apparent. The problem is pretty well outlined if you read the independently produced U.S. climate change report, where plenty of empirical data exists to show there is in fact a problem. Lastly, emissions won't need to be cut until 2012, so there goes the notion of it being in the midst of the recession. Furthermore, the impact on consumers is being greatly exaggerated here. But I wont convince you, you win, its a sham.

There is no global warming. This is just a big power grab. There are better ways to push innovation of green products than to punish all consumers. Cap & Trade punished the consumer more that the producer because the producer just passes the price increase onto the customer.

Unfortunately the Congressional Budget Office has already estimated the cost per household, and between 2012 (when the legislation takes effect) and 2020 it will cost $175 per household...total, thats about $22 a year, to begin saving our planet...wow, what an unbelievable tax on the American people! People need to stop recycling talking points from Glen Beck and actually investigate the facts themselves.

You make a valid counter to my argument, and I appreciate the debate based on critical thought and fact. True, the CBO did not take into account GDP loss. You are right it could be damaging. But it could also be damaging to our planet if we don't do something. I believe that is the more compelling issue, and that is where we part ideology. I agree not a huge decrease but basically the decrease wouldn't split the difference of the increase from land ice melting and I don't mean if all of it melted just if the melted around the same rates they are now, but as soon as the water ice is gone it will only be water raise.
I know a lot of people care about water level but I'd be more interested in what weather patterns would change if there wasn't north pole for like in our current weather system.

I think the best way to reduce carbon emissions in the west is to have an immigration moratorium. Statistics clearlyu show the USA population grew by 100 million in the last 40 years and nearly all the growth was due to immigration.

The coming Ice Age & damage that will occur will make Global Warming look like a hot day in july. When Michigan lake freezes and turns into massive ice formations it will start moving slowly, as glaciers do, cutting enormous canyons on it way south. It will be one of the largest glaciers the earth has ever known and will destroy all that lies in it's path. Reid said the Senate is moving at a much slower speed than the House on passing a comprehensive energy bill, but added that he hopes to combine energy and climate bills in a single piece of legislation the Senate would be ready to vote on in the fall.

Anything, really, would be a good starting point for you. An Algebra textbook would probably help the most, given you can't seem to understand simple equations. Macroeconomics wouldn't hurt either.
Cap-and-trade's damage is simplistic. It raises the price of energy. A child can figure out what happens from there.

..that being said, once American consumers curb their demand for energy the "punishment" will be negligible...my only criticism with this bill is that it doesn't address the international issue. If we don't find a way to get China or India on board, not only will the environmental impact be negligible, energy companies will in fact look overseas. If you are going to attack anything about this bill, attack that aspect.

I'll say what politicians on the left won't say...it will punish consumers, thats the point. Tax credits won't make producers push green products if there is no demand for them. The only reason demand for energy efficient vehicles increased last summer was because gas was more than $4.00 a gallon, and I'm not naive, I know GE and Shell have endorsed this bill because it benefits them...Obama and the Dems are as beholden to corporate interests as the GOP...but the GOP has offered no solution.

The solution is to cap greenhouse gas emissions, I think that is pretty apparent. The problem is pretty well outlined if you read the independently produced U.S. climate change report, where plenty of empirical data exists to show there is in fact a problem. Lastly, emissions won't need to be cut until 2012, so there goes the notion of it being in the midst of the recession. Furthermore, the impact on consumers is being greatly exaggerated here. But I wont convince you, you win, its a sham.

Ummmm, I hate to point this out, but the spin about this economic crisis is BS. Seems I remember a president taking office with roughly 20+% inflation, 20+% interest rates and high double digit unemployment. That sounds a lot worse than where we are right now. Of course that's not what the savior is telling us. But, I have faith, he will get us there. Carter II is well on his way. Just sayin....
But, this is a sure fire way to destroy any chance of recovery.

I agree that we don't know what the overall effect of the legislation is. I disagree, however, with the notion that we don't know if there is a problem to be solved. There is a problem. I don't take the people who call climate change a hoax seriously. They don't think critically. I put them in the same category as 9/11 conspiracy theorists. Overwhelming independent empirical data shows manmade climate change is real. I welcome a debate on if this is the way to fix it, but denying it is naive.

There is no global warming. This is just a big power grab. There are better ways to push innovation of green products than to punish all consumers. Cap & Trade punished the consumer more that the producer because the producer just passes the price increase onto the customer.
What they need to do ( if there was such thing as carbon based global warming ) is to offer the producers massive tax credits so there is an incentive for them to innovate.

The one consolation is that the short-term (as well as long-term) effects of Cap and Trade should be SO dramatically *awful* that it shouldn't be around too long, just as a number of policies from the New Deal (if only all the policies have been repealed).
Maybe that's a bit optimistic. It could just pan out that the reason it doesn't work is ascribed to greed and more force is pushed down our throats in the aim of self-sacrifice for Mother Earth (and others).

This is nice video and the "burden calculator" that accompanies it is really neat too. Unfortunately the Congressional Budget Office has already estimated the cost per household, and between 2012 (when the legislation takes effect) and 2020 it will cost $175 per household...total, thats about $22 a year, to begin saving our planet...wow, what an unbelievable tax on the American people! People need to stop recycling talking points from Glen Beck and actually investigate the facts themselves.

The reduction in GDP would also include indirect general equilibrium effects, such as changes in the labor supply resulting from reductions in real wages and potential reductions in the productivity of capital and labor. That's pretty damaging.

You make a valid counter to my argument, and I appreciate the debate based on critical thought and fact. True, the CBO did not take into account GDP loss. You are right it could be damaging. But it could also be damaging to our planet if we don't do something. I believe that is the more compelling issue, and that is where we part ideology. There is a sacrifice involved here, and I realize if china and india don't get on board it can be for nothing, but we have to try, thats just my opinion.
