ohh man u save my day, i was so angry on my second hard disc because i wasn't able to seen him in my computer and i have some data on it that i really needed, so i follow your 1.st step and it worked! Thanks man a million ...
It works, when you have space on "backup" part of hard drive. When all bad sectors has been reallocated with that part (in my case), you gonna get much worst than before chkdsk... so better watch out, and watch for "reallocated sector count"...
First of all, you are using software which is the operating system itself lol. Second of all you ain't fixing nothing. Scandisk or Chdisk only mark the bad sectors on the hard drive so the system won't use them anymore but it doesn't REPAIR the bad sectors themselves.
ive got a 500gb one here where the lady left the charger out during updates,
then when io went to reinstall - i left the charger out, then when i finally installed and ran chkdsk, it's been running for over 2 hours so far at 31%,
i's useful - but be prepared to do other stuff if you've got lots of errors
Thanks a tonnn ... that was very very helpful...i hv chosen the first option... thanks a ton once again... i though my HDD is gone...but u helped me in BIGGG way.. :) Thumbs up any one who had the same situation.
Mine going to take some time because when I did that command with external hard drive it didn't fix anything so I have to use the chkdsk r command which going to take a long time because I have 1tb and it has 980gb of used files on there and right now it's only on 763 files.... it's been scanning and replying bad clusters for 3 days straight now.
@AxAznGuyTony26 yup the more disk space and files you have on the disk the more the chkdsk will take in time to repair, that's a fact it may take week or longer to finish the task.
@sampoha2 It did not work for me. First it could not read the existing file "Kernel32.sys" and I tried chkdsk. The next time that file had unbelievable contents.
Then i ran the diagnostic software included with the drive and it found bad sectors, but it sait that could be fixed "with possible loss of data", but after fixing it, kernel32.sys was there again in the original form. What strange errors were these???
And TutorialzBS do you know that chkdsk is a SOFTWARE:) Fixing a bad sector without software is kinda not possible, because even the G-list that stores bad sectors is run by software ( firmware ) :) It's all software bro, the hardware is plain dumb.
@DSetekh I did what this video said. But I used Western Digital Windlg. It found errors and fixed them and after that, the computer booted just fine. But as i knew the hard drive had bad sectors, I changed hard drives. The old one went in the microwave for a few minutes (Yes i have seen the clips about microwaving! I could not keep from doing it, despite the disclaimer at the beginning!)

@2008winki you have to wait, you will know when it finishes when you can' t type on the page anymore or it might exit out on it's own
