Prevention of releasing the oil reserves into the oil market will save the oil and smooth out the inevitable price rise and buy time for America to adjust to price rises in oil. As the price increases. An increasing portion will be restricted to a dwindling category of industries and ultimately the US military.

The ironic thing about this deep water spill is that the environmentalists drove us out there. If it weren't for them, we'd be drilling on land in Alaska, and offshore in shallow water. Also, ask anyone who actually lives on the Gulf, and a good percentage of them still are in favor of drilling.
@finrodbrs Shallow water drilling just places the leak closer to the shore. Drilling is necessary at the present time but we have to have safety precautions or we'll have a mess such as the one in the gulf.

As far as bringing it closer to shore, I was talking about drilling on the continental shelf which I think extends at least five miles out (I might be wrong). The good thing about drilling in shallower water is that divers could get down to the leak. In deep water, you need to send robots down because of the pressure.

We can use our domestic coal and cellulosic biomass resources as a feedstock for gasification and synthesis of absolutely any hydrocarbon we typically get from crude. The technology already exists (look up Fischer Tropsch processing) oil just happens to be a bit cheaper is the only reason it isn't deployed.

While I do understand the need and importance for oil and gas in the present economic model, the people in charge of the government should still evolve. They need to start focusing and leading us to a new and improved future. Sooner than later, oil will become like coal; outdated, dirty and inefficient. The people in charge of America need to make clean, cheap and safe energy available to everyone. They should also make it a priority before Europe or Asia does or else America will fall behind...

The ironic thing about this deep water spill is that the environmentalists drove us out there. If it weren't for them, we'd be drilling on land in Alaska, and offshore in shallow water. Also, ask anyone who actually lives on the Gulf, and a good percentage of them still are in favor of drilling.

@finrodbrs Shallow water drilling just places the leak closer to the shore. Drilling is necessary at the present time but we have to have safety precautions or we'll have a mess such as the one in the gulf.

As far as bringing it closer to shore, I was talking about drilling on the continental shelf which I think extends at least five miles out (I might be wrong). The good thing about drilling in shallower water is that divers could get down to the leak. In deep water, you need to send robots down because of the pressure.

Ah how the blame game has de-evolved into so many ridiculous videos. Nobody was screaming for super deep Abiotic wells to be tapped off-shore. It was BP who attempted to replicate what the Russians have become quite proficient at, and THEY drilled a super-deep, roughly 35,000 foot well in the middle of the Gulf with the OBAMA ADMINISTRATION'S permission! This is NOT a normal well, and nothing like it has ever been tapped before. They knew the insane pressures at that depth and went ahead anyway.

@scottdouglass87 Gas-to-liquids, Coal-to-liquids, or biomass-to-liquids processes. We can use our domestic coal and cellulosic biomass resources as a feedstock for gasification and synthesis of absolutely any hydrocarbon we typically get from crude. The technology already exists (look up Fischer Tropsch processing) oil just happens to be a bit cheaper is the only reason it isn't deployed.

@scottdouglass87 BP's well would have supplied TWO DAYS of America's need for oil. ALL the oil in America, ALL of it (ignoring environmental regulations), would supply our needs for only TWO YEARS. Then we're stone empty. So "drill baby drill" wrecks America's environment for many decades to supply only a year or two of oil. That is why we need to spend billions on foreign oil. They have it; we don't. Better to encourage alternatives to oil instead of "drill, baby, drill" chanting.

and no one is really talking on the point of how the ocean is going to react to this much oil and gas just being spilled out. The whole system of life in the sea in this area is completely decimated! No one is talking about this and this is what really pisses me off. We are destroying the most beautiful planet that we ever know of in the known galaxy. These guys should be put in jail!

when are we the human civilization going to finally wake up and realize that this is the 21st century, and that getting our energy from dead plants and animals is going to lead to war over an energy that is running out and is harmful to our environment and atmosphere!
The sun has been there for billions of years keeping us warm and giving us light, and giving our beautiful green earth life! The energy is clean, in abundance and is far far from earth. Its time for a 21st century revolution!

the saddest thing is that even though this was literally the stupidest campaign slogan ever (although the McCain campaign had so many it's hard to pick just one) it had an effect and caused Obama to try and placate the GOP. Well thankfully he turned that shizz around yet this disaster continues. Hopefully this is the final nail in the Sara Palin political coffin. Personally I think she was hand chosen to destroy the McCain campaign. Why? Good question.

I have e-mailed MANY of our supposed leaders to ask for monetary support to go help with cleaning up the gulf. I thought I did a superior job in doing so. This was 4-27-10. I have also repeatedly sent snail mail. I have not received an email in return. It's like they don't care or something. Hmmmm.......... Could it be?
