I was asking myself the same question- and I found the only one possible answer. The first part when she appears (2:33-3:14) is recorded and viewed on the screen together with these funny guys with guitar etc. The 'real' Madonna appears after a few moments :) Proof: there are some differences in the clothing.

Originally the footage they have with D and Muds singing an such was for the feel Good Live concert, and the way they did that was they had Hologram projectors

As Sci-Fi as it sounds, That's actually what it is, with a little photo and mirror manipulation, they made the Gorillaz look like they were in fact physically there

here's a little bit of Gorillaz live performance secrets; in the feel good inc live performance Del la Soul couldn't get very close to the group without risking any part of them dissappearing with the hidden holocams being blocked. with Feel good/Hung up, they shot madonna singing the short intro then used the stock footage from Feel Good Inc. Live and just added a shadow in for when she circled around Muds and Noodle. there you have it. talk later!!
