  • yeah, its funny how even though this game is going to rock, 90% of gamers will think its sucks and that the rest of us will only like it for nostalgia reasons.

not gonna lie, I think ill get it for the memories of hexan and megaman x, but I think the game doesnt actually NEED nostalgia to fuel it.

I can picture it now, ill be playing this game, a friend comes in and will say somthing to the effect of "this game sucks, you should play a REAL game"

I will proceed to sucker punch his testicles

  • Interesting that you say that it gives memories and is very similar to Mega Man. The Sound Clips are from MegaMan Zero and MegaMan ZX.

  • Not sure if you can help but I can't find any help online. I can't run this game for the life of me. I've got a very decent PC running windows 7 Ultimate, and the graphics don't seem to load and it lags like hell. I really want to play this.

  • @ZeroCaim Could be your graphics card, could be the settings, hard to say without more information. Try finding information on getting DarkPlaces to run, or try downloading a different build.

Try setting "fog 0" in the console (~ to bring it down), or changing the resolution in the options?

  • @lordasaki I tried changing the res and nothing really happened. I even tried emailing the creator, but no answer yet.

  • @ZeroCaim Yeah, sorry I can't help more. I don't know how often LordHavoc checks his email, but I can poke him tomorrow and see if he has any ideas.

One thing I forgot to say, the old standby: try updating your graphics card drivers...or sometimes even downgrading is necessary, especially in nVidia's case. See if other Quake engines or other OpenGL games have similar problems.

  • @lordasaki Updating the graphics card and turning the fog off actually worked very well. Thanks for your help!

  • @ZeroCaim I tried posting a link to the DarkPlaces website, but YouTube kept giving me an error until I finally deleted it.

  • Mouselook is "m_pitch 0.022" into the console (or save it into a CFG file).

For those with motion sickness, I get it too if I don't play with mouselook. Try it and see if that helps.

  • thanks for the link, this game looks awesome

  • you know you can use alt-fire, just paste into console (conosole is openbed with "`" key

    bind mouse2 “impulse 100”

mouselook works too its "+mlook" I think

  • Even as an alpha this looks more fun then any "full game" you usually demo.

  • woa that gave me motionsicknis <.< sry but can´t watsh it complit

  • I don't know if it's just me, but watching this video is giving me a little bit of motion sickness.

  • Whoa, thanks for putting a video of this up. I had no idea it existed before now. I love the old Doom style shooters and this looks exceptional, especially for an alpha build

  • Try Super Puzzle Platformer Deluxe. Ya know.... if ya want.

  • The engine is fully 3d. It uses a modified Quake 1 engine.

  • This does seem to be pretty well polished for an alpha, I really only noticed that "Renforcements" is misspelled, and for some reason, the first time you pick up the bullet weapon, it's called the Raptor Rifle, and the second time, it just says Machinegun. No big issues. Looks like it might only have 5 weapons going by the HUD though. Definitely something to keep an eye on however. I never really got to enjoy these kinds of games when I was young; we were a Mac family. :(

  • The "hey, it's still an alpha, but play along and see what else get's added!" approach is getting more popular it seems

Maybe Amy would have been better if it was promised as an alpha.

  • It sounds like a good number of the SFX are ripped from Megaman Zero specifically, for an example the PC bullets' sound is Zero's initial buster sound, and the "good pickup" noise is the cyber elf pickup noise. They may or may not have those as placeholders for their own SFX that will be added in later.

  • @RaussW They are placeholders - the alpha was pretty quickly assembled, from what I can gather. First draft levels, not all enemies completed, no boss, etc. They're looking into making some familiar-yet-different sounds now.

  • @RaussW I will say, it fits.

  • Oh yeah, there's no vertical aiming - that's deliberate. The game isn't so much Doom style as it is Wolfenstein style. There's some visual use of the Z-axis, but mouselook is just horizontal. You notice that enemies high up automatically explode when you clear the lower level, so you don't need to aim at them.

  • As the game is in Alpha and they haven't finished coding all the interface, y'all should read the readme file. There's Dash and Altfire buttons that you need to bind manually.

Interestingly, this actually runs on a much more advanced modern version of the Quake 1 engine, but they've gone for 16-bit aesthetics, so it feels ultra-oldschool. The demo is basically an unfinished version of 'episode 1'. The full game will be a digital retail release, from what the lead dev has said to me.

  • Damn, it really does remind me of the Megaman X SNES games, from the music to the sound effects. This game looks like it stomps all kinds of ass.

  • This is most fun game I've played recently.

  • You can jump in this game?! Even Doom didn't have that!

  • I can't believe this is in alpha! Looks amazing, this can only get better from here.

  • Just downloaded this. Thanks for the heads up! This game definitely needs more publicity.

  • The music in this game kicks ass. I need to try this out.
