Bullshit! I see minor damage ! Headlights + hood + maybe other small plastic insignificant parts... that's a fender bender to me. The bumper seems intact.
@fishtankfreak No, all I know is that I'm keeping my old car if a fender bender costs me 10 salaries. A bumper for me is around 60$, a headlight 30$, a whole brand-new door is 200$/a piece and costs around 100$ to paint, reassemble all parts on it, including windows and mount it on the car. The whole exhaust system, from the engine to the back was around 300$, (final and mid mufflers + catalyzer). :))
I think that this much damage was caused because the Impact Beam Does Not Absorb Energy and is fixed. Unlike another cars bumper which would have Also absorbed the impact making the damage Less
@GottfriedvonCramm Lmfao!!!! No don't Fuck VW Fuck newer cars, They're a scam for making money and nothing more! I hit a tractor tire with my old 72' VW beetle and back into it with my truck with a heavy 1200 pound flat bed at 28 MPH and then hit the fender on fence beam and the only Damage done was a small dent from where the truck hit it which costed me about a hamburger 2 hours worth of my time. LOL New cars are fucking PATHETIC man. No I'm not a bad driver, I do off roading with no brakes
@14omega28ok thats true, nowadays cars are made of tin foil. good for the manufacturer, bad for the insurance company = bad for your financial health.
beetles were made to last forever. dont get rid of it!
I think that this much damage happened because the bumper beam hit underneath the crash object, and so it isn't the crumple zone's fault, but it is either the car's fault or the tester's fault
its the testers fault, cause the crumple zone starts right below the bumper and if you watch the video, the hood and headlights absorb it, not the bumper which its supposed to, and the harder (than the hood) crumple zone slides underneath the barrier forcing the hood and headlights to absorb it
Why the hell do they mount the bumpers so high on these tests? I guess they are geared toward US market cars, because that is the ONLY place in the world where most of the cars have bumpers like 3 feet off the ground (eg SUVs and pickups).
and this is why the economy went bad,is because somone bumps into your car and they spend there lifes savings getting a small scratch on your car fixed.
@paintball4life3214 Yes a pickup may be able to drive away after an accident but they still suffer damage and the more rigid the vehicle the more of the energy of the crash is transferred into the occupants. Many years ago someone ran a 1990 Civic into a 1986 GMC and the results were a totalled Civic and a GMC that "drove" away - busted rad, leaking oil pan, scrubbing tires that pointed the wrong way. All occupants walked away. This says more about how well the Civic was designed than the GMC.
@marshgr Man i couldnt even understand what i wrote. Anyways i was in a wreck 5-6 years ago in a chevy 3500 with a full replacement bumper(big metal one). A drunk drver hit me head on going 60mph in a civic. The truck i was in plowed throw the civic sending him to the er. I had no injuries, i guess what im trying to say is as long as a large truck doesnt meet a larger truck your fine. Another bad thing about those bumpers is there conected to the frame and can/will cause damage.
@paintball4life3214 Most modern SUV's are unibody and will crumple as will the frame on a pickup to some extent. This test rig is just too rigid to illustrate a "real world" crash.
the problem of modern cars - regardless to their advantages - is that after such a crash the whole car can be twisted to one side so you can´t open e.g. the back doors.
its because the gay boy brussles beurocrats want cars that hug idiot pedestrians who step into the road, can you believe in the UK you get fined £2000 for walking on rail lines (because of course trains are silent and so smooth you'd never know one coming) and yet if a pedestrian steps out onto a deul carrageway with a speed limit of 70mph the driver of the car is to blame automaticly?!? and would probably loose thier licence and be threatened with a custodial sentance (hard time)
its because the gay boy brussles beurocrats want cars that hug idiot pedestrians who step into the road, can you believe in the UK you get fined £2000 for walking on rail lines (because of course trains are silent and so smooth you'd never know one coming) and yet if a pedestrian steps out onto a deul carrageway with a speed limit of 70mph the driver of the car is to blame automaticly?!? and would probably loose thier licence and be threatens with a custodial sentance (hard time)
The simulated bumper seems to be at pickup truck height. No wonder it causes this much damage to CARS. Sorry, we don't ALL live in Redneck Country....so this test is meaningless....lol
The IIHS bumper is too high for cars now. I'm sure eveyone noticed that in the test, the bumper system for all cars (excluding SUVs and Pickups) that the hood is being pushed in by the bumper. I saw a test where a 1989 Ford Escort was put to this test and the bumpers matched EXACTLY. Outdated by about 21 years.... Time for a change.
@toyotaprius79 This generation Rabbit/Golf was called the Rabbit. That's why there's a picture of a rabbit next to the badge that displays the size of the engine. 2010s and on, however, are again called Golfs.
Who cares how much you pay for them? What about when your going down the highway and some moron smashes into you? I don't think your gonna give a shit about how much its gonna pay, at least it saved your life
I think that this test is shit. It is so inaccurate. I mean imagine that "orange thing" to be a little higher or lower. No folding in = 1000 less. There must be sth real hard behind the license plate to prevent this from happening. That why the car got squeezed under orange thing. An inch lower and total cost half that.
some girl rear ended my truck at like 20 and i was at a dead stop my hitch busted he grill rad bumper and hood my truck my hitch was pushed in and my bumper was scrached. her damage was about 3000 mine was 0 just tied the hitch to a tree and yanked it out
I remember I had a SAAB 9000 and I went into the back of some twat in Yaris (@35mph) who pulled out on me
The Yaris just folded in like this, hahaha my Saab had a cracked headlamp and a big scratch on the bumper. I drove it around for another year after that.
Anyone think that car manufacturers love making cars "safer" at the same time as increasing their repair revenue 10 fold?
Im more than aware of crumble zones which dissipate the energy of a crash into your vehicle (ie not into you) but its been proven at this speed its very unlikely that you will have ANY inuries at all, crumple zone or not. Its also proven that colliding with another vehicle at 70mph in a similiar way, which a crumble zone will do little to stop, will most likely seriously harm you.
Its win win for car manufacturers who increase their repair revenue whilst claiming its all in the name of safety
4 grand is ridiculous, No wonder insurance is so expensive, might as well write the thing off if you bump into something....hell if this happened to me I'd glue the headlights back in place and fix the hood myself, ridiculous...
