Awards are often a joke - political and without merit.

Consider some the truly great actors that NEVER WON AN OSCAR:

Cary Grant, Greta Garbo, Peter O'Toole, Burgess Meredith, Lauren Bacall, Lee J. Cobb.

Neil Diamond has had a tremendous fan base and his popularity has lasted over 40 YEARS even though his voice isn't what it once was ! The chain smoking certainly hasn't helped.
