If you follow these techniques you'll be injured in no time. Tell me if you feel pain after trying this guys method. If you do, then it's obviously wrong.
Please don't run long-distance with a heel-to-toe foot strike! It will lead to injury, as the heel is a *terrible* shock absorber. It is also not the most efficient way to run.
Anyone interested in a more natural and less injury-prone way to run should search online for "Barefoot Ted" or go to your nearest library and borrow the book "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall. This information will get you started on a healthy and joyful path to injury-free long-distance running!
Toe and mid-foot for all distances, unless walking. For long distance even more vital. Even though the impacts are not as strong as in sprinting, their quantity and persistence will effectively injure the heel-landers.
Interesting. I was always taught that heel running was the worst possible form for long distance work and that you should aim for the mid foot -> balls of your feet to avoid constant concussive strain on the knee joins by landing heel-toe.
yea also u hav to make sure that u dont put a lotta pressure on the heel, meaning u want to make ur foot like an arc, so ur basically rolling on ur heel onto the rest of ur foot
@ uzumaki: just train your calves, there's not any technique. either you run long distance or you run short distance (especially here you'll need more strength in your legs). in your case i would advise you to do some training sessions in hilly terrain, you'll need them for running cross country ;)
thanx! im only 15 but im on the cross country team at my skool? i have a 2.5 mile race tom but im not very gd at keeping my stamina up during long distance running. is there anything i can do 2 conserve more of my energy until the last few yards? im planning 2 join next year, 2 since dis is going 2 b my last race dis year, and i want 2 get better.

Most scientific studies I've seen say that landing on your mid-foot is best for running long-distance.

His advice on long distance running is terrible. It wont be long before you get injured.
