  • Great song. Great performance. God, I love the Hollies!

  • what was their last song together ?

  • To be eleven years old and owning this single...wow...in its day this rocked harder than most music. Even more, for it to be a signature song from my first chrush... My compliments to this band, their music has aged so well..

  • fuckin great harmonies, 2 great singers.

  • @rononeroc 3 great singers.

  • @melitosse fair play 3 it is.

  • Great song by a great band.

  • Bands like these are better live.

  • I'd like to point out that, in the majority of TV appearances by groups of this era, they simply lip-synch'd to the studio recordings of their songs. I always enjoy finding true live TV perfromances, like this one (and like the Beatles performing Help live in Blackpool). It proves whether a band was really a working live band or not. The Hollies certainly were one of those. Top it off with great song writing (Bus Stop, Carrie Anne, On a Carousel), and you've got: Wow.

  • @FarnhazenBrep Live is better & the bands would have preferred to play live, but acoustics, logistics, budget, time constraints, etc. it wasn't really practical (though there were some exceptions) to bring orchestras into a studio for the variety shows, much less rehearse. The organ hadn't evolve into the synthesizer yet. Even if they were faking, the kids just wanted to their idols sing their hits. Their agents booked them, they flew in & appeared. Let's give 'em a break?

  • @StevieB1362

I understand all that. I've been a bass player and audio technician since forever.

I wasn't saying that bands who lip-sync'd their hits couldn't play live. I was saying that I'm glad that so many live TV performances have been preserved, so we get to see groups actually perform their songs live. It proves they really had the stuff.

By the way, be sure to check out the Beatles on Blackpool Night Out, if you haven't already.

  • Aside from a young Paul McCartney, Graham Nash is in a class by himself as far as be able to sing sky high without breaking. When asked, David Crosby simply shakes his head and says "How do he do it ??"

  • How frickin' awesome to actually be able to clearly hear Tony Hicks on the guitar!!!!!

  • The Real Hollies!

  • this was about it for graham

  • Imagine this: a rock band with THREE, count them: 3 lead singers. And each singer sings three part harmony in a fresh, fabulous style! oh yeah, and the Hollie's songs were great too!

  • OMFG this is RARE!!!

    THANKS for sharing this!! :D

  • I photographed the Hollies in Canada in 1977. To see the shots go to ianmarkmusicphotos (.com)

  • These videos are the closest thing to a live Hollies recording from that period. They recorded live twice for album release in 1968 (only one tracks has appeared so far) and I always wished for one to be issued. They were consumate musicians and good tunesmiths too.

  • They sound great really live unlike thier lip sync tv apearences.Great musicians!!!!

  • Great video! Graham is still hot today and still sounds just as good.

  • nice!

  • Lovely

  • I Word AMAZING!

  • Graham seems in a good mood here. I guess any of us would be if we knew we were less than a couple of hundred days away from the explosion of CS&N on the scene.

  • Just an all around kick ass band. Man they were great. What every garage band aspires to, but rarely ever approaches. Easy to see why they were so popular.

  • This is some great stuff to see! Thanks for posting these 1968 videos. Hard to believe Nash would leave the band that year.

  • Has Graham Nash ever reunited with his former bandmates for a concert or a tour?

  • Tony is cuuuuute here.

  • Bobby Elliot- unsung drum genius!!!

  • great drums which start with a roll

  • Is Tony playing a Ric 12 string? i wish his amp was turned up. the harmonies for this concert knock me out. where did all these great clips from this concert come from?

  • @1jimbones This is a festival in Split, Croatia... in sixties musicians like Shadows, Cliff Richard, Procol Harum and Hollies were guests during the intermission. This archive footage was broadcasted on croatian national tv couple years ago....

  • @1jimbones Yes, he is playing a 12 string Ric. He can play so many stringed instruments! Excellent guitar player!...HOF.....Many years OVERDO!!!....

  • @49erBW I don't think that Tony is playing a 12 string Ric. I certainly can't hear that he's playing a 12 string, especially on the single string pull-off licks. He's playing a 360/6, not a 360/12. On the 1967 video that's floating around he's playing a Les Paul and doing the same licks that sound the same. When Tony did play a 12 string, it was a Vox. I don't recall any Hollies tunes that have a Ric 12 on them, except maybe You've Got That Suspicious Look and even that doesn't sound right.

  • @1jimbones Yes wish they were more rick 12 and drums in the mix.

  • Love those harmonies!

  • Doubly cool that it's in Split. I went there in 1989 with a rad chick named Vicky Walters.

  • Hot for words and around and around....

  • Great song and video. Wish Tony's guitar was louder here though. He playing is awesome! They had great stage presence.

  • when UK offers a college credit course, for the study of the HOLLIES songs, it will take both semesters or longer!

  • Love Graham, very much like Allan here. Nice video to revisit time and time again. The Hollies were professionals in every sense of the word, and still are.

  • Sometimes I forget what a great singer Graham Nash is. The high notes are so clear and clean it's scary.

  • Nash is amazing. I had no idea he had been in The Hollies (all these bands are before my time). My first memory of Graham is from the "Woodstock" film and song of the same name with Crosby, and Stills. An amazing talent-indeed all these guys are truly gifted. Love The Hollies.♥

  • @jrcel21 Graham made the "Hollies Sound." Once he left, they really weren't the Hollies anymore.

  • Has anyone else noticed that a lot of youtube videos have sound that goes in and out? Still, like everyone else I love tthis song and the whole British Invasion music.

  • ...Graham Nash is the best...!

  • allan clarke lame ? what is wrong with you johnchapple ,allan clarke was and always will be the hollies

  • awesome , fantastic job of Bobby Elliot

  • i never realized how amazing these guys are! i love this song and i love the remake by Glass ..something.. Glass Moon i think?

  • They're so frigging good live it's not even funny.

  • This is one of my favorite Hollies songs. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to get too much airplay on oldies radio stations. Brings back terrific memories of the 60's.

  • I simply agree with all coments. The Hollies were the best.

  • I just found this video, one of several from a concert. What fun to watch them entertain the audience. RRHOF should create a separate wing for them for keeping them out all of these years. A great group with so many terrific songs.

  • its a joke that these gods arent in the hall of fame....allan leaves in 2000 ,the hollies try and find an identical replacement and couldnt as theres only one god....elvis kicks the bucket and 5,000,0000 sound alikes follow[some better]....whos the unique singer here....send your answers on a postcard.....they say elvis is the king but god is higher and allan you are the greatest pop vocalist of all time......period

  • thank you for your GREAT comment !well said!! ...Lyndloo...

  • thanks darling,im just down the road from allans birthplace,salford....he is one hell of a special vocalist and such a nice person too....this r.a.r.h.o.f. issue gets my goat ,,that committee want a rocket up there backsides.....its obscene when you think of some of the cowboys who are in there who are talentless and havent heard of the word longevity.love to you linda and all hollies fans worldwide.....

  • The Hollies of all groups deserve to be in the RRHOF. As a mega Nash fan I think it's strange that Graham isn't two timed like David Crosby and Stephen Stills when the Hollies eclipse Buffalo Springfield completely and fly even higher than the Byrds.

  • This live performance is just" Superb" just proves that these guys were the best of all time !!! they Sound Great and look so Fine..they need to be in The Hall Of Fame..Now! not in 10yrs time.. Now! !!..Its way overdue! What is the prob???my god.. most of the other British Invasion groups are already in..so come on people lets get them in there. ..Im getting really P.Oed about this now ..and by the way ALLAN if u ever read this ..I love you forever !!xx.. Lyndloo..

  • Great. The Hollies could sing rings around anybody.

  • A real treasure for all Hollies fans, on my favorites for sure. Graham and Allan sing a wonderful duet throughout, different than the recorded version. Many, MANY thanks to you, CityBeat, for the recommendation (and a major Graham fix.)!

  • Incidentally - it was in Split, Croatia (then in Yugoslavia) that our man Nash wrote 'King Midas in Reverse'.

  • Just a superb treat to see this, and FCB you must be very proud to provide such a treat and pleasure to so many, thank you!

  • Fabulous performance - wish I could have been there for this concert! And Bobby certainly sounded like he was having fun :)

  • That was just great. Again, I'm so impressed with their ability to perform live. What talented (and fantastic looking) band.

  • WOW- this is GREAT! Ron

  • Wonderful, thanks for posting

  • Hollies to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.......

  • Thank u of course I lllllove this ,I love them since I was 13 and Im 29.......

  • Wahay! I love it when Allan says that. They look to be having so much fun. From this you wouldn't think Graham would leave at the end of the year.

  • Pure gold! Thanks, Lynn!
