  • so if "gomen nasai" means im sorry what does "sumimasen" mean?

  • what does gomen nasai mean

  • @Calfeeny "gomen nasai" means I'm sorry :)

  • @japanesepod101 so if "gomen nasai" means im sorry what does "sumimasen" mean?

  • @thatonedavid1

sumimasen is a more formal a political speech, could it mean "I apologize" , gomen nasai is informal or formal but kind

  • @Rivojulliet i think sumimasen means "excuse me" more than "i'm sorry", but i could be wrong

  • @japanesepod101 wat about Go me n ne? >.<

  • @japanesepod101 And "Gomen" ?

  • @TheEriSilva2 "Gomen" is an informal way of saying "sorry."

  • @japanesepod101 arigatho guzaimashu

  • Yeah I got it!!!

  • some japanese cats also do it : )

  • First gesture in Poland would be "Amen".

It is used when people pray to God.

But in many ocasions in many cultures, depending on place where it is used it would mean greeting, respect, greeting before martial arts, it means something else when people bow while doing it.

Hey it is interesting topic. I made presentation about unverbal communication differences in many cultures three yers ago. That is good to know, cose you can avoid misunderstandings.

    Nice channel. I think i'll subscribe ;)

  • She's so pretty!

  • Yayz~ I guessed em all right~

  • just marry me :D

  • aaight... im in love with japanese language <3

i also watch anime´s... i really want to learn japanese. how long does it takes to learn japanese. i am a fast learner.";)

  • @Testarossa951 it really does depend on how much you can take in at one time and how fast you can memorize kanji, hiragana and katakana. if you can also memorize the sentence structure of Japanese sentences fast, then it shouldn't be very hard.

I'm learning Japanese, and oh booy, Kanji is complicated. and Rosetta Stone isn't helping me in this category either ~_~

  • @VanillaPeachKiss124 can you start a conversation with someone who can speak japanese. or can only understand it.?:S

  • @Testarossa951 I can start very basic introductions and conversations in Japanese, and I understand some things and not others.

    /horriblepersoncough/

  • What is the ending music? ;o

  • I ♥ Japan!

  • variant D: Pray

  • I've watched some anime, and it's in Japanese and subtitled in my own language... and I often look up words in the dictionary and for now I know about 100 words in Japanese, and, yeah, to my point... there's 3 synonyms for the word I or me: ore, watashi and boku. I don't know if there's more but, yeah, my question is, when should you use whick of the words? I think boku is only used by men but I'm not sure of the other 2... I'd be very grateful for an answer! =)

  • @MuminF4n From my understanding, there are actually way more words synonymous with "I" in Japanese, but those are the most common. Boku can be used by males, but also by young/tomboyish girls. It's informal-ish and boyish. Ore is a really manly "I", and while not exactly rude, it's super informal and generally used between friends. Watashi is formal and gender-neutral.

I speak another Asian language w/ variations of "I" and I *still* find this unintuitive and complicated! :P. Good luck.

  • Cute Music.lol

  • yes i love japanese

  • Means - Bad small.. xp

I'm kidding, I love ur classes.

  • かわいい ♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • HELLO PLEASE BUT ON THE AUDO A CAPTIONS

  • That's strange; in India we use the same folded hands gesture when we meet someone. Its called 'namaste', literally translated as hello, or goodbye.

  • @shikhargupta89 i think things like that are farther east like in china and india. that is why some of their clothes look similar too. so strange how "go away" in english is like "come here" in japanese. so opposite

  • her Japanese is so cute <3 :D

  • @Emoness93 aww.thank you! :)

  • Errr... This is a really stupid question but... How do you vote? something out of 5?

  • that's kind of given tho

  • Wow i got IT CORRECT. tho it can sumtimes be follwed by a bow

  • Wait I thought you use sumimasen for "I'm sorry" and "excuse me"..

  • @TLoZfanatic sumimasen is more versatile. i don't think it directly translates to i'm sorry as in i have sorrow. it can be used to get a store clerk's attention or if you're trying to get through a crowded room of people. it kind of has a feeling of saying i'm sorry to put you out or bother you so please excuse me for doing so. i lived in japan for 3 years but never took a class so most words i have a feeling for but don't know the direct translation.

  • Comment removed

  • @theamazingsupergirl oh that makes sense thnak you :D

  • @TLoZfanatic it also means "thank you" in some cases. it literally means "it has not ended", as in, "this is not over, the favor will be returned"

  • as for the next gesture...uhm, i'd go for "it stinks" ? At least, that's how it's used here lol

  • Isn't that a gesture that's done pretty much everywhere? I don't know, i didn't know it was a specificly Japanese gesture for "sorry", i do that too and pretty much everyone does (and i'm not Japanese at all =P). Well, i guess i just learnt something then.

  • YATTA! I didnt know you did other japanese informational videos Hiroko! So tallented!

  • Great guesses everyone, make sure to check the video when it comes out :)

  • Kawaii karikomi !!!

  • I know this gesture very well. Often see anime characters doing it :D

  • it means..."kusai!!" hahaha....nah j/k, most likely a negative response?...like "iie" or any of the like? :)

  • "sonna koto nai"

  • or "chigau" or "shirimasen" or "iranai" or... almost anything that means "no" in one way or another :)

  • mmm I agree with you, it's definitely seen a lot when saying "chigau".

  • girl I love you!!!!!

  • i think its "DAME!"

  • We're not listeners, we're viewers! :p

  • i think she's awesome. and is it "not at all - ie"?!?

  • i think the next gesture means "it doesn't matter", which is said "kamaimasen" or "daijobu" in japanese.

  • it means "no" :)

  • I cant wait either. TORTURE!

  • Please don't make me wait!!! I'm too curious!
