  • Nice demo. There are lenses that come with Micro Four Thirds mounts that aren't really fully compatible. For example, I just got one of the 7.5mm f/3.5 fisheyes that are sold under three different brands that I know of. They're completely manual lenses and don't communicate anything to the camera. Fully compatible lenses can activate manual focus magnification automatically when you turn the focusing ring. My new manual fisheye lens doesn't. Thanks for manual magnification refresher!

  • It's not just Nikon lenses, it's pretty much anything! :-)

Be prepared for some disappointment with cheap lenses though.

  • how do you turn off the automatic zooming in when manual fousing

  • Thanks for taking the time to make this video. lol, I been trying for ages to figure out how you tell the G2 what f-ratio the lens is. >:D As well as double the focal length, on SLR to four thirds, I think the depth of field is half too. 70-210/f4 becomes 140-420/f2. So manual focuse range is twice as narrow than SLR.

  • this or the Canon EOS 550D? (video, pictures, etc).

  • MrPlaystationboy - No, the G2 + adapter does not detect the aperture. Also, the LCD compensates when stopping down so it looks just as bright at f16 as it does at f2.8. This means you have to remember to open the aperture all the way for the most accurate manual focusing.

  • Rob2008101 - My 28mm AIS + adapter focuses down to about 8-9 inches to the sensor plane (4" to the front of the lens). But here is something I just noticed - it seems to focus a little beyond infinity, so I'll have to back it off a tad when focusing on infinity. But I can live with that.

  • does the camera detect the aperture ?

  • Thanks for taking the time to create and post this video. I am considering a G2 to use with my Nikon lenses and I know that the field of view narrows so my 28mm becomes a 56mm. Do you know how that would affect the minimum focusing distance. My 28mm f2.8 AIS will focus as close as 6 or 7 inches on my DSLR

    Thanks Bob

  • where can I buy the Nikon to 4/3 adaptor?

  • @Rob2008101 - I got mine on eBay from seller "cam2_usa" for $19.99, but it looks like the price is now $25 (it was listed more than once at different prices, but it looks like he fixed that). I can't seem to add a link to this reply, but he has two listed now - Item # 250714191187 or 250811453513 (you can search by number). You can also search for the seller under "advanced search".

  • @worldjim thank you! That's really helpful :)

  • I got a DMc g2 and love the camera, but I'm still trying to figure out all the tricks it can do! Please post more videos like this when you can! Learned a lot!

  • @RicK4rD0 - Thanks for the feedback. I don't expect to post more videos about the G2's tricks, but I will if something hits me. I'm just so pleased to have full manual control & metering and use my old AIS lenses again. ...And in such a compact body. Super camera. Enjoy!

  • @worldjim Well, I will hope you do :p But I totally agree and just bought a manual focus pancake lens to me and I think that will make a huge difference.

    have a great one.
