Personally, this makes me incredibly sad. Chris Cornell, the frontman of Soundgarden and Audioslave with the four-octave range and beautiful vibrato, singing like Daughtry? I absolutely love Chris Cornell, but to me this is comparable to Kurt Cobain coming back and singing with Nick Lachey or Chris Brown. I can appreciate trying to go in a new direction, but with Chris's genius he could have paved new road and done something incredible, not just be another Timbaland client.

This song's a lot better than Scream, i must say. I'd like to listen to the live acoustic versions, sounds like they'd be a lot better. Thinking back to Audioslave and Sound Garden, even his work for Casino Royale etc, I'd never guess that he would come out with this style. This whole situation is just a bit uncomfortable. It's very simple really. Chris Cornell would sound good without any accompaniment. The weak background beats drown out his true talent, just like dumping a bottle of ketchup all over a good steak. Reserve the weak sauce ketchup beats for the french fry, pop artists on American idol that people chew and snap bubble gum to or do an aerobics workout too. Like someone said earlier, beat masters are desperate for talent. They have none without a powerhouse like Chris Cornell to carry them.
Any naysayers regarding "Scream" are either narrow minded and/or hesitant to change. Look, here's the deal: a talented singer/songwriter decides to challenge himself and his audience by writing some of the best pop oriented material of his career. The fact that he's dressed it up in Timbaland fashion(are those actual Timberland boots he's wearing in the official video for "Long Gone"?) is just a sign of the times I applaud Cornell AND Timbaland for having the cajones to push the pop envelope.
I'm with you. In the weeks before this album came out, I was trying to get the many naysayers to basically stop whining. Many of them kept on crying for the "old days." They wanted him to go back and recycle the old Soundgarden styles from the 90s. I guess they didn't see that Cornell had been trying out different styles since the later Soundgarden days, through Audioslave and through all of his solo joints. Their hatred for this CD points more to their hatred for hip-hop/R&B.
i think that everyone needs to switch up. u cant always keep doing the same formula. chris has enough money that he can do this and it still not hurt him. get over it people. this album is great, and if you cant get over the fact that he experimented with something different then your very closed minded
I agree. It's almost gotten to the point where there's no point in trying to argue about this album to those stuck living in the past. I personally hate when artists will basically make the same album, same style over and over again. And Cornell has been changing his style with each album since the later days of Soundgarden. They don't have to buy this album, don't have to listen to it. Their hatred for rap/R&B is more the reason why they hate this CD. I myself like the experimentation.
Furthermore, so few acts these days try anything new. I mostly blame the corporate labels who wants things to sell tons of units and sell NOW, but those artists with money can afford to try new things. They can afford to even go to small labels. I like to hear how Cornell and Timbaland made songs that vary in their rock and R&B/hip-hop mix. Some are more rock, others more hip-hop and some go right down the middle. I hope ne now makes a full-blown reggae album to really piss off his "fans." :)

This song's a lot better than Scream, i must say. I'd like to listen to the live acoustic versions, sounds like they'd be a lot better. Thinking back to Audioslave and Sound Garden, even his work for Casino Royale etc, I'd never guess that he would come out with this style. This whole situation is just a bit uncomfortable. Initially i thought it would be something like the help Timbaland gave to One Republic. I'm kind of disappointed.

I like the fact that cornell made this album just to be different. I love his voice and his musical style and even though I prefer his earlier stuff (I own every SG and AS song), I am trying not to let this album affect my opinion of him just because of the change in genre.
And it's worth mentioning that when he does it live he does it with guitar and drums and no effects.
p.s. people who suddenly think he sold out are idiots - he would have made MORE money by just repeating superunknown

hearing him do the ´scream´ songs live made me see that they suit him just as well as the old stuff. i was also apprehensive at 1st, and will always prefer the Soundgarden and TotD repertoire, but its really not bad at all, and still absolutely Chris!

It's very simple really. Chris Cornell would sound good without any accompaniment. The weak background beats drown out his true talent, just like dumping a bottle of ketchup all over a good steak. Reserve the weak sauce ketchup beats for the french fry, pop artists on American idol that people chew and snap bubble gum to or do an aerobics workout too. Like someone said earlier, beat masters are desperate for talent. They have none without a powerhouse like Chris Cornell to carry them.

Any naysayers regarding "Scream" are either narrow minded and/or hesitant to change. Look, here's the deal: a talented singer/songwriter decides to challenge himself and his audience by writing some of the best pop oriented material of his career. The fact that he's dressed it up in Timbaland fashion(are those actual Timberland boots he's wearing in the official video for "Long Gone"?) is just a sign of the times I applaud Cornell AND Timbaland for having the cajones to push the pop envelope.

I'm with you. In the weeks before this album came out, I was trying to get the many naysayers to basically stop whining. Many of them kept on crying for the "old days." They wanted him to go back and recycle the old Soundgarden styles from the 90s. I guess they didn't see that Cornell had been trying out different styles since the later Soundgarden days, through Audioslave and through all of his solo joints. Their hatred for this CD points more to their hatred for hip-hop/R&B.

I agree. It's almost gotten to the point where there's no point in trying to argue about this album to those stuck living in the past. I personally hate when artists will basically make the same album, same style over and over again. And Cornell has been changing his style with each album since the later days of Soundgarden. They don't have to buy this album, don't have to listen to it. Their hatred for rap/R&B is more the reason why they hate this CD. I myself like the experimentation.

Furthermore, so few acts these days try anything new. I mostly blame the corporate labels who wants things to sell tons of units and sell NOW, but those artists with money can afford to try new things. They can afford to even go to small labels. I like to hear how Cornell and Timbaland made songs that vary in their rock and R&B/hip-hop mix. Some are more rock, others more hip-hop and some go right down the middle. I hope ne now makes a full-blown reggae album to really piss off his "fans." :)

don't like it. the drum beats don't appeal to me, being artificial. this particular song, along with many of the others on the album seem to drag on and on and bore me. sounds too much like everything else going on out there in music today.
chris cornell is an excellent singer. i just don't think he's a very talented writer of music. lyrically, he's pretty good. but the actual scores, not really. his last solo album was pretty dismal in my opinion as well.
