David's voice is sooo soothing in this great song its suited for sleep time but ocasionally spiced up by his guitar solos, how wonderful ! dream or real life ? I'll take either one.

I personally think this song is about taking drugs what else could it be?

If you read several of his lyrics Gilmour celebrates substance abuse.

He is no angel nor has he ever claimed to be.

@aberdown no one ever said using substances as helping tools to find elightenment and to find your true self was a bad / evil thing atall... it is only a dangerous threat to the higher-ups in any democratic culture that the many people they "control" open their eyes and catch a glimpse past the gloomy clouds of dellusion, if only for an instance.

For all of those labeling David as "Sir" you are mistaken. His proper title is David Gilmour CBE (Commander of the British Empire)

I'll agree with the "coat" but two lines before:

"She's far away though she looks so near."

He sung it:

"She's far away but she looks so near."

You can clearly hear him sound out the "b" in the word "but"....

But, all this is way too unimportant. The song is as beautiful a masterpiece as any painting.

LOL.....ok.....I just listened to it several times (after having grown up with the album the last 31 years of my life)......and....sorry..... you're wrong......a "warm coat" makes absolutely no sense here. It's a love song. She tells him "Time will tell" and he says he's not asking for a total commitment, all he needs is a "warm hello." Not a warm coat! I understand David isn't recognized as a great lyricist, but a "warm coat" is really really bad. The line is definitely a "warm hello."
