You didnt understand nothing. Percussion is so or much important as the other sound, not an accompaniement, but the main thing in that music. Percussion have also a very complex "melody", what Schoemberg will call Klangfarbenmelodie in occidental music, much more complex than the "melody" in notes ;).

The tendency of percussionists to dominate is rather (c)rude. They should know that they are there as an accompaniment and not as the main instrument to feature.

This video was taken with a small tourist digital still camera which had a tiny basic microphone and I was standing nearest to the percussion. The overall sound of the music was magical.

it's difficult for a percussionist to not overtake a string intstrument. I play the cello, and we have to work hard to keep the contrast there!
