@agat1973 It looked a tremendous project. You made a serious choice which will save you loads of time and money.
The Pandora, at 22ft has a hull speed of no more than 6 knots, so however hard the motor pushes it will not go faster, what happens is the boat pushes a wave in front and starts to try to climb it, which it can't, because a keel boat does not plane. 6 knots is exciting enough :-) 7.5hp will give the oomph you need to push against tides and wind and even shove off a mud bank.
What a lovely boat. That's a MK1 isn't it? I've just bought a Mk2 International and the outboard goes in a well but it looks like yours is on a brachet.
Incidentally, what outboardare you running there, looks to be motoring along and i'm wondering how mine will go on my evinrude 2.5hp four stroke?
@agat1973 Hi Andy. Outboard was either 4 or 6hp. You'll find 2.5hp functional but a little underpowered if you have to push a strong wind or tide. An outboard well is better because it won't lift out of the water so much as this one did when I was standing on the bows. The Pandora really sails well, clips along easily, Glyn, the owner sold it in 2010. Cheers and happy sailing days, remember to fry up some kippers :-)
@snowypetrel Thanks for the reply :) We've delved further into the restoration and unfortunately had to ditch the boat, she just needed far far to much work, there wasn't a solid piece of wood anywhere on the hull :(
Regarding the outboard i've got myself a Yamaha 7.5hp now, you think that'll give us a big difference? I'm very new to sailing and have yet to take my Pandora out, i'm waiting until the spring. Do you think I can expect 10ish knots with the 7.5hp?
