  • I knew Steve when he was a member of Ham and Petersham rifle and pistol club. I was only a teenager but he was a nice bloke. We drove him and his mate Davie home to Sheen/Barnes area

  • Genius Bassist. Without his groove, most of T Rex's earlier stuff would be 12 bar country and western...

  • john legend

  • R.I.P Joyce Currie 1925-2011.

    XXX

  • Steve's part on Sunken Rags is...ridiculous.. soo good.

  • I hate to point this out, but Marc Bolan was one of the cheapest men of all time when it came to paying some of his band members. OMG and it may have just been inherited, lol.

He was a legendary tightwad. Bill Legend and Steve Currie were totally ripped off.

  • Peace to all that contributed to T-rex and their dedicated fans, we all will be together again......see you on the other side.

  • steve currie was my old mans cousin

  • I always considered the major factor in Marc/T.Rex becoming superstars was not the replacement of Steve Peregrine Took with Mickey Finn, but the arrival of Steve Currie. His, for the time, advanced bass playing allowed Bolan to expand his guitar playing and to concentrate on being the front man. Without Currie, T.Rexmania would not have happened. IM(nv)HO.

  • Steve was a super talented, nice guy. RIP mate.

  • Steve could play!

  • Steve Currie, the forgotten hero in the T.REX sound, his Bass playing was second to none, I am sure he would not have been out of place in any group at the time, even Led Zep or Free. Great Video

R.I.P Marc, Steve and Mickey, YOUR MUSIC LIVES ON

  • I think Steve Currie was never given the credit and respect due at the time. Simply coz T.Rex had a large female following and the press were out to get Bolan. The guy was a serious or talented musician and as the years have passed, people listen to the music and not the sniping press.

  • Steve was an awesome bass player!!

  • Happy Birthday Steve ... RIP

  • One of my fav. bassist- Steve. His bass tec. is really great ! support Marc,s music.his bass tec. as same as Marc,s guitar of T.rex. i love it !

  • I always recall him stood there with his Fender Jazz set at a jaunty angle. A great influence - and I own a Jazz today.

  • thanx for commenting!!

  • @IntellectualAmy Fender Precision

  • @Strawberry7Lynn - My mistake, sorry. You are correct, a Precision. (I deserve a slap for that since I own a Precision...)

  • im a gtr/vox/writer like Marc,i know exactly how important it is to get the right bass man,not just musically but even more importantly personality wise.Someone prepared to surrender his ego and just be a good player to alow you to shine, very hard to find guys like Steve Curry, trust me i know...

  • I agree!

  • his basslines are immaculate. 5 stars player.

  • a freind of mine from grimsby was one of his freinds he nicknamed him" red hot" they went to a club in grimsby while marc was writing new hits and steve"s old band was playing and they got him playing bass the club went ballistic

  • We'll see Steve, Mickey and Marc again one day Bill is still with us at the time of writing of course, this is a very nice tribute , Tanx

  • A great guy, RIP Steve. x

  • I've always had a fondness for Steve's playing. So many memorable bass lines he created during his T. Rex venture. The bass lines for "Telegram Sam," "Jeepster," "Jitterbug Love," etc. just make you want to get up and start dancing along!

  • Steve was a fellow HongKongie like me..I knew him when I was a kid although he was much older than me. My Mum looks at this site and remembers him and his Mum...RIP Steve..Slide away!

  • Thanx for dropping by!

  • One of music's great losses... without doubt Steve was the most under-rated bass player of the 70s, and the Currie-Legend partnership was the most under-rated rhythm section.

  • agreed!

  • steve curry come from my town grimsby town

  • what is the name of drummer

  • Bill Legend

  • i feel sorry for him

  • Well done! Steve was an amazing bassist, could be very melodic. His part on "Spaceball Ricochet" is total counterpoint expertly and passionately done. T. Rex lives!

  • love steve too!

  • Great vid, edited really well. Shows some good footage i hadn't seen before. Thanks for sharing. RIP Steve, you rule!!! a true inspiration and truly missed.

  • I think so highly of Steve Currie, I am going to go out on a limb and say I do not think T-Rex would have been quite as big without him. I think he was a big part of the chemistry.

  • Steve was a talented musician, very inventive and years ahead of his time in the way he used jazz and soul styles in his playing. Both he and Bill where hired as professional musicians to augment T.Rex, Marc and Mickey Finn hence the wages set up.

  • I thought Steve Currie 'choked' on something ?

  • I remember hearing that rumor too years ago-but it was a car accident

  • Yes - you are right. It was Steve Took who choked on a seed I believe.

  • yes,on tour with Chris Spedding

  • Is it true Steve Currie also died in a car accident in 1981?

  • April 28, 1981 in Portugal

  • It's a shame he was only on a wage. Such a talented guy should have been paid more!! Yeah?

  • of course!

  • yes...what a lovely tribute to steve...they all were sooooo beautiful....does bill still play for the church? xx

  • Last I've heard- Bill was still playing for the church

  • And the same goes for Marc and Mikkey and Bill aswell

    I love tham all

  • I will always love you steve allways and forever

    My favourite bass player

    From your biggest fan everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • yw!
