  • How strange the wintery Christmas scenes in cartoons and movies must seem to an Australian.

  • Yes, I don't quite now how it must be either as my early years were with snowy Christmases. I find it odd seeing wintery decorations here at Christmas time, hehe. Lots of fake sprinkled snow!

  • I wish we were having hot weather. New York is 26 degrees which is an improvement over the 9 degrees we were having. No lizards here. They don't like the cold. I hope you had a merry christmas and will have a happy new year.

  • Hope you had an enjoyable Christmas Jen.

The blue tongue looks very healthy. How great to have one in your back yard.

  • Haha, I loved his moonwalk! Lizard's got some moves.

Had a lovely christmas? And a happy new year's, as it approaches rapidly =]

  • Well, I wouldn't mind going for a swim on Christmas eve! We have about three feet of snow over here in Sweden and I'm pretty fed up with shoveling it around, trying to find places to put the snow. No blue-tongued lizards, but my garden is visited daily by foxes, owls, squirrels, pheasants and lots of other birds.

Wishing a great 2010 for you!

  • I hope you had a wonderful holiday and I wish you a happy new year!

    Great lizard btw!

    Robby:)

  • thanks Robby! :)

  • Ah M'lady tis delightful to behold the rear-parts of a lizard! (would rather turn my gaze to thee.,,)

also pleasant is the Elizabethan? tones of accompanying music...may much joy follow and precede thy entrance at the New Years Dawning.

    (your humble servant...)

  • Happy New Year to you Mark! :)

  • lol The lizard was so cute. Happy Christmas :)

  • happy christmas and new year aimee!!

  • Merry Christmas! X

That lizard was amazing. The most intresting thing to come Into my yard is the occasional hedgehog or bat!

  • I'd love to see a hedgehog! ^^ We get fruit bats here in our yard too and I adore them, hehe

  • Well we get plenty of hedgehogs. The bats are much more rare however.

  • I enjoyed your description of Christmas in Australia. I just can't imagine Christmas being a hot summer holiday, since for me it's always been really cold, dark and snowy. It's fun to hear about it, though!

I loved the video of the skink. We have them at the Minnesota Zoo; they are used in education programs. I've never seen a wild one, though. (Your skink obviously did not like being filmed!)

    Thanks.

  • thank you! :)

  • thank you! :)

  • The more I hear about Texan's, th'less I like 'em....mind you, them Frenchies can't be beat for inhumanity...or humanity!!

  • Don't hate us all..We're not all like that.

  • Thanks RavenofPoe for all your class and sophistication through '09, keep the vids coming. You are a pleasant light!

  • Thank you millard! :)

  • I had one of those as a pet they are called blue tongue skniks mean little bugers

  • aw yes they are quite defensive little creatures, hehe

  • I wish we got lizards that big here in Texas. People here would probably mistake them for baby alligators or something and try to kill them or just kill them for sport or fun.

  • oh dear!

  • I've given up on the roasts for seafood. I reckon by now I must look like a prawn...

    (More so than before)

Have a good New Year Jen'!

  • We had the seafood on christmas eve this year and the roast on christmas day, hehe! The best of both worlds ;)

  • Weird looking reptlile to a central european like me. But you always look like a gorgeous Santa's little helper!

  • hehe, thankyou

  • I have a rainy christmas this year in canberra:) Hope you guys all well!

  • Thank you! :)

  • I haven't seen skinks for many years, and that was just on TV! Fascinating. They hardly seemed real until now.

  • They are beautiful and fascinating creatures - amusing too at times, hehe

  • Aww, the light and the noise of the birds reminds me so much of home! Hope you've had a wonderful Christmas Jen. 2010 should be an interesting one! :D

  • agreed hehe! ^^

  • It reverses! That's cool.

  • Was I the only one that went "beep beep beep" in my head while it was doing that?

  • That was exactly what I thought! :)

  • Now that I think of it you two do have a fairly similar sense of humour lol!

  • lol michael!

  • Yes, it was acutely aware of me and wasn't going to turn its back on me for one second, lol. I was quite a distance away while filming it too!

  • Happy Holidays Jennifer! Send some of that heat over here, Im freezing... hehe 5 *'s :)

  • It's a deal! hehe ;)

  • Merry Christmass Jenny!!

  • Hope you had a wonderful Christmas in that gorgeous snow Eddy! ^^

  • Oh yes it was gorgeous!! Also the first official white christmass since 1981 in our neck of the woods. ^^

  • I like the lizards reverse gear, I am Regwah on Flickr, I take lots of nature shots every few days from the Sunshine Coast, you may like to have a look some time. All the best for the season, Reg.

  • oh wow! The ones of the birds of prey you uploaded on Dec 23 are gorgeous! Thanks for the link :)

  • And a Merry Christmas to you too Jennifer! Wow, that lizard was big... he was cool, thanks for sharing that clip, I enjoyed it! Best wishes to ya! ... FrAnK (★★★★★)

  • Yes he was a fairly large one, most I see are only a third of his size. They can get quite a bit larger though! ^^

  • Happy Christmas to you as well !

  • happy christmas to you too! :)

  • Merry Christmas, Jennifer. I think the lizard is pretty cool!

  • Thank you! ^^

  • Happy Christmas for you to and have a great and save holidays .

  • And the same to you Stefan! :)

  • For it 'tis as much of a hoilday as Jennifer

  • Happy Holidays Jennifer, you are one of the people that make youtube a joy :)

  • Thank you David! You know you do too ;)

  • It's the Christmas lizard who brings toys to the good girls and boys and runs up the legs of bad children to bite them.

  • hehe, I knew it! No wonder the poor thing was looking a little stressed before Christmas

  • Seasons greetings :)

  • Happy holidays!

  • Happy christmas

  • merry Christmas Chris! :)

  • That first lizard didn't look too comfortable.

I don't think I've ever seen a reptile walk backwards before. Something about that seemed really odd.

    Have a great holiday!

  • Yes, the lizard was in a very defensive mood moving backwards like that so as to keep me in his sight. The flicking of the blue tongue is a warning to potential attackers too.

  • We've got some weird reptiles where I live (Florida) too, but that one was pretty big! Merry Christmas, Raven, and thanks so much for sharing your enthusiasm for life.

  • thank you and Merry Christmas!! :)

  • omg those lizards are freaky!!!

  • hehe, they are quite wonderful and weird all at once!

  • Raven,

Do you remember the last time it rained on Christmas in Aus ? Well i live in Sydney and i honestly can not remember it ever raining on Christmas day. I think its most likely my selective memory. Well merry Christmas and happy new year.

  • Yes I can't remember when it last did either but finally this year it did, hehe! Good for the very few of us who prefer the rain - maybe I am the only one, lol! :) Hope you have a great new year!

  • Merry Christmas, Jennifer!

I wouldn't much like spending Christmas somewhere without at least some cold weather...nonetheless, I'm sure one can have a nice holiday wherever one might be!

    Have a good one!

Also, that lizard was strangely adorable...

  • They are, aren't they? And this one was quite a character! ^^

  • Merry christmas to you too

  • thank you! :)

  • Love that lizard, love your vids too, keep on posting.....

    Happy Christmas one and all!!

  • will do! Thank you! :)

  • Here in south east england we've had some pretty cold weather , it got to -5 the other night and theres still some snow and ice around . I'm still hoping for a few extra snowflakes for the morning , We;ve not had an official white christmas for a long time . I'll swap a day of ice cold for some sun? Merry Christmas Raven of poe ! :)))

  • Wow that is cold! But yes, I'd love to swap, hehe!

  • oh my, What is that thing? I looks SO big, but really cute in an odd sort of way. Merry Christmas to you too!

  • A blue-tongued skink, hehe! They are quite cute characters, although the big ones can be quite temperamental, lol

  • Same to you, Jen :)

  • thank you! ^^

  • Merry Christmas from Maryland in the US...we got hammered with snow last week. 2 feet of snow lay down here...and 34 degree weather. If I saw that thing in my yard...I'd scream like a little girl.

  • aw hehe!

  • Just remember, he's even more afraid of you.

  • merry christmas jen ^^ hope you have a great day ^^ its still christmas eve in england :(

  • I hope you had a wonderful Christmas Matt! :)

  • we have "blue belly" lizards but they are not anywhere as big as those. i think one of them was staring right at me and commicating directly to me.. i need some medication

  • Hang on Mate- I think you just spoke with the late rocker, Jim Morrison-The Lizard King! You must go back and try again to speak with him. Ask him how it is on the "Other Side". ; ) Cheers, Friend!

  • will do...i'll get the real scoop on MJ while i'm at it

  • I just googled a picture of the blue belly lizards and their underbelly is very blue indeed! The same strange brightness as the tongue of these lizards :)

  • Happy Holidays.

  • thank you!

  • PS, I adore the Music! I love ancient music! Especially with spiritual themes!

  • Me too! This is one of my favourite carols too - I only found this instrumental version this year :)

  • What a thoughtful video, Jen! Thanks for sending your Holiday Greetings to everyone! I don't believe I could ever get used to a hot Christmas, but you lot are excellent sports to still have a roast dinner and celebrate! Mr. Skink was exuding "Skinkish Charm" when he turned around under the pot and peered out! Hehe! Where was Joseph during all this? I'm glad he was not there to mess with the intruder, as he may have got a nip on the nose! Bri.

  • Ah you are clever to wonder where Joe was at that time!! :) He was indeed the one who showed the skink to me. He was intensely watching something through the window and that is when I saw the lizard. I kept him inside though the poor cat, hehe. He would have caused all sorts of trouble with it otherwise!

  • The ground is covered in snow and ice where I am at the moment. I couldn't imagine a warm christmas. I still wear a T-shirt though so maybe I would not have to change? Merry christmas from the UK

  • hehe!

  • Happy holidays!

What a cute reptile thingie! It's moving backwards :D

  • Happy holidays to you too Thomas! :)

  • Merry Christmas, Jen! Have an amazing holiday, I know I will be =)

  • thanks jordan!!

  • Haha, Christmas sure feels differently in your part of the world.

Ich wünsche Dir ein frohes Fest und einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr, Jen!

  • Thank you Andreas! :)

Rutsch is a new word for me! ^^ It's individual meaning seems to be slip or fall, so I'm guessing it is part of an idiom for "have a happy new year" and no longer has a literal translation that makes sense in the phrase? Or does it kind of mean, "have a good go of it in the New Year"?

Ah a new German word for the holidays!! I love it, hehe!

  • Rutschen in this sense is used like sliding. Germans basically wish each other a "good slide into the new year". The word isn't used very commonly except for children's slides and wishing someone a good start into the new year. It's like the English word "merry", which is hardly used except for wishing a merry Christmas anymore.

  • Ah yes! Thank you for that! :)

  • merry christmas :)

  • thank you! ^^

  • I like the way it backs out!!

If you want the sun with cooler temperatures, come to AZ! no lizards but cacti galore.

  • I always assumed there would be lizards there too!

I love the backing up motion they do too hehe! ;)

  • Well, there are lizards, only not that big. And now it's winter, they're all god knows where. But the bees are still here! weird stuff.

  • I'm one of those people who thinks that christmas isn't christmas without a little snow on the ground. I couldn't even begin to imagine it being so hot at christmas that I'd be breaking out a fan.

  • hehe quite so!

  • merry Christmas! cool reptile!

it's quite cold here in NJ in the States,

and the snow from a blizzard a few days past still covers the grasses and rooftops, i almost broke my arm tripping on some black ice on my driveway... but i guess it would feel rather odd for it to be hot this time of year... MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

  • my very first Christmas was in NJ! :) Merry Christmas to you!

  • Merry Reptilian Christmas

  • hehe, thank you!

  • The year did fly by!!

  • agreed!

  • Happy Holidays.

  • thank you! :)

  • Twas the night before Christmas, and the reptiles were stirring...Merry Christmas!

  • hehe, thank you!

  • Merry Christmas!

    I love the music!

  • Thank you! :)

  • Any time. Happy new year.

  • Hey Darling,

A very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

    Love you!! Bye

  • Thank you Ricardo!! :)
