  • Superb my friend, the music in that film is what makes it my favourite ever movie and i would've thought it was sacrilege to remix it but you have done an awesome job!!

  • I also love the film, love the music, loved the era.

long story, but I was asked to be in part of the film, when shooting the banger racing bit at Haringay Stadium in 1979, as i was runner up world final winner that year.

was the last year banger racing took part at haringay.

    My lifes regrets eh..

  • Bloody fantastic! LOVE it

  • This is just better than the original, sound-wise, thank you. (Not disrespecting Monkman but you did a great job on the "remix"), nice video as well.

  • Love the instrumental music in this classic.

  • I think many many uk people over a certain age would know and love the tune, but few would know from where it originated.Capital radio in London used it for traffic 20+ yrs ago I think. Terrific job, makes me want to dig out the old synth and learn again.thankyou thankyou thankyou

  • @groomercab Nice one, thankyou!

  • hunts men it think its the best film tune its been years since i herd it .

  • @groomercab I used to listen to Capital Radio in the early to mid 1980s but cannot remember it at all - perhaps it was later. Then again, I was not interested in traffic information then.

  • Thanks for sharing this fantastic piece of music and your video.

You have done an excellent job WELL DONE, now added to my favouties.

  • BRILLIANT *****

  • suuuperr !!!

  • Always thought the original kicked ass but

    should have been longer.

Awesome job man, I love it.

  • Excellent. Wish I had your fingers.. =0)

  • with all the respect to Francis, your version is better (and longer:)..

    so big ups..

by the way, how did you sampled that sax?

  • @dnch Hi and thanks , I used ableton live 7 to extract the sax solo, just bringing the original track in as audio, found the time signature and cropped certain parts then used EQ for the rest...took quite awhile!

  • @mik300z How about a cover of Roy Budd's Who Dares Wins? That would be a treat!

  • very very good ...super version tahnks

  • I love this track,,, The foot is doing overtime! Brill!!!!!

  • hey Tony I thought you'd like it, cheers!

  • Great theme! Francis Monkman also did Library music for Bruton in the 70s (maybe also in the 80s?)

  • wow this is brilliant! I love the long good friday and Monkman's theme

  • Absolutely top class; this really is an incredibly impressive version of a fabulous old film theme. I've never really understood why this theme isn't better known, or why it's so damn hard to get hold of! Thanks so much for all your hard work on this.

  • Hi and thanks, I agree it should be better known, even the movie seems to have been forgotten, but still one of my alltime favourites.

  • Excellent cover and nice video too, 5* cheers!

  • @the shortbad thursday...loll!! love the name and thanks:)

  • Wow Mick you've made a great cover 5* + fav

  • I've never seen the original movie, or heard the original music before, but I was very impressed by your version, your sound is just so professional now! You seem to have changed your methods a bit, using computer software such as Ableton Live. I've heard its a very good program.

  • Mick, oh yes I like it. I like it very much.

    awesome playing and great vid.

    5*

  • Hi! As usual - excellent! I did not knew this theme, but you made real cool! Hope your internet is up again!

  • Hi Mike, spend some more time getting to make a living out of your music making,,,,,,,,,,,,GREAT MIX again.

  • No more words than WOW. Beautiful arrangement Mick. Knew it was gonna be special but......*****. Just dug out from the east coast blizzard. No internet at home. Nice treat to welcome me back to work.

  • Thankyou:) glad you enjoyed it! my internet still down, only get online every few days for a few minutes at a time

  • That was a fantastic production in every detail. The only thing that could make it better, is having that fine piece of sound and motion (as well as all your other stuff) carefully burned to a CD, that would spin in my car while I make the car spin on a beautiful, saturday morning. I think I will paypal you in advance just to make sure you make a CD before the summer.

  • @kaidoscope; Cheers fella, it will be on a new cd, thanks! Nearly there with the sound quality.....

  • Yes ... I have no words ... simply great

  • I CANNOT stop listening to this!!!

    I love it!

  • @wizardofozbe Cheers!!

  • WOW, just wow!

This is another Masterpiece played by Mick! Extremly well done.

If you love to play around with Sax Sounds you should try "Dave Stewart & Candy Dulfer - Lily was here" :D

    Again 5/5 Stars

  • @Rawwbot Thanks

  • Well Done !

    *****

  • @Gusakov Thanks

  • Mike, when can we hear your version of the "Get Carter" theme? :)

  • Mike, outstanding work. Of the two movies from the early 1980s that has some of the best synth tracks, one being Vangelis and 'Bladerunner'. The other being 'The Long Good Friday'. You have recaptured that astmosphere with your works.

  • good freakin' GOD!!!!! o_O!! that was freakin' awesome!!!! fantastic, awe-inspiring job!!!!!

  • i like the sounds used , very nice

  • Great feel!

  • O.O......* Wow! Speachless..... O.O ....*

  • I love this. Awesome!! 10* :D

  • Gonna watch the movie now, thanks for the inspiration and keep it up!

  • Brilliant as always! =)

  • excellent job friend , your hard work payed off, this is an amazing soundtrack I did not know before. 5 stars, favourite and added to my list.

How much time did it take you to remake this ?

  • cheers, Im ashamed to admit I spent nearly 2 weeks on this, the first week trying to replace the sax bit which I then decided to leave in:) the second week tweaking and redoing sequences over and over. That opening sequence is hard to nail right, the notes are easy but the swing/flow of it is tricky.

  • That seens normal to me. Afterall your task was far from easy. I happen to own a Andromeda and I was thinking to remake a song , maybe Vangelis "spiral" or something similar.

I wont have to tell you that your excellent production motivated me to do so.

So how much time you spent each week ?

  • Hey!- Good work! I am not familiar with the original, but this is well done!

I was wondering what compressor you use. The ducking is done so nicely. Lots of crisp lead and drums.

    Thanks

  • cheers, i normally use a hardware compressor but used the ableton software compressors for this track.
