  • i simply adore her, and i simply adore this version of the song. but something just occurred to me

    . . .

anybody ever notice she sort-of looks like a muppet when she sings?

  • it's about dividing things by a half, you'll never quite get to zero,or you'll never get to where you want/need to be...sometimes

  • thee best song written about depression,or at least describing it,continue!

  • Muito, muito, muito bom....Alanis Morissette.

  • prefer the police.she has a good voice, but it's not very good in this music.

it's weird too that a women says "i'm the king of pain":p

  • @SghostyBen ella dice "Queen".... es cuestión de escuchar bien como pronuncia...

  • @SophieHolmes100 may be,i'm sorry, but where she says "Queen",it's pronounced like "keen" so i deduced that she said "king"

  • translate of portuguese

  • Essa me trás bons momentos.

  • I actually prefer this to the original.

  • @seattletaytay screw you for preferring this to the original. ONLY A MAN CAN BE A KING OF PAIN. AM ALONE, AM ALONE, AM THE KING OF PAIN AND AM STING TO SING SO.

  • Essa voz tão especial para uma canção tão linda. Ou Essa voz tão linda para uma canção tão especial. Magnífica combinação.

  • Perfect

  • Really great cover, really captures the emotion. Don't know anybody else who did a better cover of this song.

  • @dragonblogger personally, i think this one rivals the original.

  • @dragonblogger I listened to this version all the time and never even looked up the original.. the first time I heard Sting it was with Lady GaGa a few weeks ago. It's a GREAT song, but I think this version is by far the best. :)

  • @mhartemusic Something like 30 years ago the original was played, if you grew up listening to the original you still kind of appreciate it but I agree this one captures more emotion than the original did.

  • @mhartemusic Look up Sting on Spotify he has done an amazing amount of great songs over the last 30+ years.

  • @dragonblogger I like Sting a lot. I grew up with him + the Police playing somewhat often on the stereo (my favorite by him is Mad About You) but this song was never on, which is weird! But I do know him, he's really great

  • my favorite song ever! I love The Police and Alanis!

  • My mom loves this song she listens to almost every day

  • Gives me chills everytime I listen to it.

  • Excelent and extremely clever question dear of mine...

  • to kipling1957 audix om5 or om3

  • long time no see this girl... but I like Alanis =)

  • Does anyone else think Alanis Morissette and Dave Grohl would make a good couple?

  • i cannot listen this music without tears in my eyes.

  • great great cover, makes me cry everytime i hear it

  • such a great cover

  • another masterpiece by the queen of great music

  • Love this performance! She sounds fantastic!

  • I love it - agree with MrTupelo64. Techie question: What stage mic is she using?

  • I have always loved this woman

  • I want more Sting covers by Alanis.

  • COVERS ARE JUST THAT! PLEASE STOP HATING, IF YOU PREFER STING'S VERSION DON'T BOTHER TRYING NEW STUFF. LIKE WE SAY IN HERE "VIVÍ Y DEJA VIVIR!! WHICH IS AS SIMPLE AS: LET IT BE! OR MORE VERBATIM, LIVE YOUR OWN LIFE AND LET THE REST LIVE THEIRS!!!!

  • @MrDannalanis Is your caps lock key broken?

  • FANHA!

  • i love you i love this song

  • Alanis sings it the best!

  • songs are funny. when a guy sings it, you think one thing. then, when a gal sings it, its a little different.

  • if pewople did not like this cover they are plain tone deaf!

  • great cover

  • el mejor cover!

  • Adoro esta mulher!!!

  • en estos momentos estoy hipnotizado por esta rola!!

  • fucking good song!!!!

any pain is good if its a song like this with such a voice

love this song more than anything!!!!!!!!

  • I love this song more than anything!! the pain is always good!! if its a song lk dis!!!

  • I love this song more than anything!! the pain is always good!! if its a song lk dis!!!

  • weak.

  • @kyxyzy Agreed.

She needs to sing her own shit and stop ruining good shit.

  • @EvanescenceLoverr I think it's a great cover

  • She's amazing!

  • A primeira vez que escutei esta musica eu tomei uma puta chuva....

  • POrra a seleção é de Alanis e um monte de artista atrapalhando!! caralho!

  • i love her giggling at the beggining!!!

  • She does a great cover of this song, but really doesn't add much to it, but it is hard to add to sting, his voice is remarkable. Now, I want you to listen to it again, and listen to the band, they are great.

  • a duett with sting is a dream

  • amo vem pro Brasillll

  • What an ironic cover!

  • @thenekom why? Not native speaker here:) Maybe missing something...

  • @PIENIEKHENIEK Because one of her hit songs was called Ironic. It was a great tune, but nothing in the song was really in any way ironic, so she has been associated with the misuse of the word irony. In other words, just a joke.

  • @thenekom thanks a lot for quick response. Now I get it:D

  • 41 people should be torn by the hunt's man pack..

  • alanis is beatful wumam !!!!!!!!!!

  • alanis is beatful wumam

  • Alanis é muito gostosa

  • "That's my soul up there." This is the ultimate Zen song. Thank you Sting and the Police for decades of amazing and profound music. And thank you Alanis for making this song even more special. It is so beautiful that it makes me cry.

  • love u!!!!!

  • it is happier than police's

  • police? no!!! i prefer alanis...

  • after 45 years of listening to music i think this woman has the best voice since Ms Striesand. p.s. ryan - what were you doing?

  • @MrTupelo64 you might be interested in a japanese woman calling herself KOKIA, very good. p.s. i'm either over analyzing, or your name is a Nick Cave reference, nice!

  • she takes the edge off it but it's still good

  • queen of pain XD

  • Not many people can cover The Police and get away with it, but she did a great job...

  • I love this version of the song. My favourite part is at the end when she says "Queen of Pain"

The Police wrote it, but that does not mean others can do it. Her version shows just as much angst as the police

  • Applaud the effort, but this song is more than lyrical delivery and content. The layers of the original version are missed. The guitar playing of Andy Summers, the drumming of Stewart Copeland as well as the piano, which drove the original and seems to play background here. Nice effort, but this is one of those iconic songs that really shouldn't be covered.

  • @Canes305 i thought it was good but yea the thing about covering the police is that they are all such talented players. you can cover the song but can you find a drummer as good as copeland or a bassist as good as sting or a guitarist as good as andy? its still good but anything by the police is irreplaceable i agree

  • its amazing how much emotion she can put into the song

  • I love it when artists that I love love artists that I love.

  • She was on a show called "you can't do that on television" it was on nickelodeon. I watched it when I was a kid.

  • My mom and dad went to high school with her :>

I'm so jealous that they all grew up with amazing music like The Police!

  • @N64Jazzy Oh dear god. I did too, and reading your comment makes me feel real old...

  • awsome! Alanis rocks 4ever!

  • @nardurah so dose ya face

  • Love here version

  • when she sings " theres a little black spot on the sun today" she nails it.. obviously alanis has an amazing voice.. she is one of a handful of people that could do a version of this sone well enough to make me listen to it start to finish...

awesome voice.. great song period. yea the original by the police is and always will be best.

  • I love her voice, it's really special! Like that woman in Cranberries, Dolores I think... It's so sad to see this site always full of hateful comments, if you love, say so, if you hate, ignore. The world would be so much better that way.

  • How can you "enjoy" nails-to-the-blackboard self-indulgence like this? Enjoy the MUSIC is right. Her voice is fucking HIDEOUS. It's kind of embarrassing to watch. "There's a little black SHPOT on the SHUN today ... It's my DESHTINY to be the King of Pain ...." Sweet Christ!

  • @DrBojayHookah canadian inflection you fucking idiot.

  • dude whatever her voice is horrible. give it up people the best thing alanis ever did was appear on a few episodes of You Can't do That on Television.

  • @NeuralNetProcessor NOB!!!!

  • @NeuralNetProcessor hahahaha...uhhhhh right her voice is 'horrible" her 7 grammy's and 13 juno's agree with you I'm sure. She didn't sell it through sex so obviously she had something (talent going for her.)

  • @yancybutler ...actually, I think for her last Grammy she remembered to thank "all my stupid fans; without you, I'd have nothing." Nah j/k but for real she sucks and so do you.

  • @NeuralNetProcessor for real go back to your shit music then.

  • I listen to this....and I like this song!

  • ouch....the perfect song for her, or to her

I'll like to be on the next near concert!

  • I kinda like this music. I think it's average. I do know the two versions. I'm a bit indiferent for this music. But Alanis versions is better. C'amon people. This Woman is directly connected with the heaven. She is an incredible human being.

  • this would be good if the background vocalist wasn't tone deaf

  • She does a good job, I have always liked her unique style.

  • From a fierce English Police fan...that was a beautiful version...respect to the Canadian girl!

  • CRITICS. DON´T EVEN IGNORE THEM.

  • che voce....pelle d'oca...quasi meglio dell'originale dei Police..

  • this is a great rendition of this Sting classic, i may be a bit biased becuase i am a Sting fan, but you cant deny her talent and delivery. i agree with @MRG2112MGV a duet would be epic.

  • I have alway been a huge fan of Sting, and the Police... but if I hadn't heard them do this song first... I would have thought it WAS an Alanis original... I am Sure that she picked this song sor that same reason... She must have heard it and said... wow... my kinda song... I prefer Alanis' Version... and I have seen borh Alanis and Sting perform it like over a dozen times each... this is a very reserved preformance compared to a hers I have seen, but very nice.

Like to see them do a Duet.

  • @MRG2112MGV I agree completely. I think Alanis has more emotion in her rendition of this song.

  • love it !

  • i like her voice. she is realy good. :)

  • gary novak on drums!!

  • Beautiful, beautiful version. Alanis's voice is pure heaven.

  • she is the heavyweight champion of pain especially if it involves harmonicas,

  • shes good at depression music

  • lindooooooo de ++++++++++!!!!!!!

  • Alanis, in your most beautiful own style of music, many applauses from me. You capture yuor own world of music.

  • I prefer this version :)

  • Very well executed cover imo. Well done

  • beautifullllll

  • This may well go ignored, but someone needs to say it:

STOP FIGHTING ON YOUTUBE AND ENJOY THE FUCKING MUSIC!!

  • @mushoo123456 ...Well said mushoo.

  • @mushoo123456 Oh I am enjoying this. beliefe me! :D

  • @mushoo123456 i totally agree... i am here for trailers and music

and nothing else...thanks that finally somebody says that thumbs up for u

  • @mushoo123456 Wasn't ignored, thumbs up!

  • @mushoo123456 that's what I tell people all the time, lol. They don't listen.

  • Credentials? Not necessary to have an opinion but helpful to have an informed opinion. I would give more weight to what Neil Peart or Bob Dylan may think of my lyrics or performances then a stranger on YouTube. I do, however, respect the right and freedom for people to express an opinion. No wrong. No right. Opinion is an extension of relevance to ones "self". You do not need music appreciation class to appreciate music. Ultimately, how you feel about your own or others art is meaningful.

  • BOOO!!

  • I loved Alanis since "You Can't Do That On Television" in the '80's

  • Why on earth Morissette decided to do this lounge-lizard version of this practically psychotic punk-injected reggae-rock classic from Synchronicity, I'll never know. Not a single shade of nuance is left after her toaster-oven-shallow flippancy. If I were The Police I'd issue a restraining order. I'd rather listen to the Muzak version of Led Zeppelin.

  • @beejjackson its little thing called taking a song you love and doing it in your own way.

  • @marsharse No, it's a little thing called taking a song you love and RUINING it because you don't have enough TALENT to understand and interpret it. 95% of covers are like that. Live with it.

  • @beejjackson No thats just being narrowminded and not being able to appreciate different styles of music I don't like Alanis Morissette but this is not a bad interpretation of the song.

  • @marsharse Narrowminded? You have no freaking idea of the breadth of my appreciation of music. I have produced symphony orchestras from Munich to San Fransisco, and bands from LA to Muscle Shoals, and I LOVE Alanis -- in fact, I have LOVED Alanis, in Montreal, twice in 3 years. What can I say? She likes me. I just loathe this cover. It sucks. She knows it. We have different opinions.

  • @beejjackson Does anyone else find it doubtful that anyone with the incredible resume you claim would be engaged in a juvenile back and forth on you tube? this cover is acceptable, not great but not horrible. I do not believe one iota of your claimed credentials, beejackson

  • @wakarusarat “There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance—that principle is contempt prior to investigation.”

    —Herbert Spencer

I from time to time engage in conversation on this and several other websites. In this case, the ignorance characteristic of the average Youtube viewer has relegated the conversation to meaninglessness. Try checking the facts before stating an opinion.

  • @beejjackson Saying you loathe it, and it sucks, is all very well. Can you specifically explain the qualities that make this rendition so distasteful to you?

  • @marsharse You have no clue as to the breadth of my appreciaton of music. And I love Alanis. She is well aware of that, AND of the fact that I find her talent limited. We can live with it. So should you.

  • @beejjackson oh sorry hang on till I just clean up this pile of shit your spewing everywhere. Honestly to say this is a bad cover is fucking stupid it is very well done and sounds good thats what matter so fuck if it isn't the same as the police version people interpret music in different ways and this is done very well.

  • @marsharse Opinion only goes so far in music. Some people don't like Mozart. That simply labels them as morons -- it doesn't mean a thing regarding the quality of Mozart's music. The fact that you appear to enjoy this particular piece of trash does not in the most minute iota alter it from being a piece of trash.

Honestly, take a music appreciation class or SOMETHING before you engage in a discussion like this. We're talking about a made-for-TV cover that no label would ever release.

  • @beejjackson Alanis sang the melody perfectly in tune and in rhythm, enunciated all the words correctly, and used her ever vibrant voice. Musically the melody is the same as Sting's. There is nothing musically wrong with this piece, so perhaps it's her viewpoint you don't like. That's drama, not music.

  • @beejjackson although i may not be qualfied to say anything , i feel i must. isn't everyone's talents limited. as far as i am concerned at least she has the guts to do what she believes in. therefore, what are ur talents and there limitations ? i am not trying to pick a fight but i am courious to find out.

  • @MsJohnson78 The consequence of the structure of the Pop music industry is that Britney Spears sells 40 million records and only a handful of people are even aware of The Mars Volta, for example. Talent is never the issue; the lowest common denominator is. Ms. Morrisette had nothing to do with this arrangement. When she does a cover it always shows respect and understanding; this displays neither. But who cares? It was an also-ran TV show that got a 3 share in the overnights. Big deal.

  • @beejjackson ..AND THE REST OF US CARE WHY??

  • One of the few songs I have heard where I feel that the original and cover BOTH do equal justice to the song. I love the Police's original, but Alanis did a phenomenal job. :)

  • I don't like it at all, sorry. The Police's version is the only good.

  • she does a wonderful job of this song.. i love the police, and no nothing compares to the original.. but kudos to alanis for doin this one!

  • This is the story of my life in a beautiful voice and extraordinary lyrics... (y)

  • I have to give her credit. So few musicians even dare to cover Police songs and she has done a great job.

  • I really love this song...great:)
