This video has a very powerful message for our time, whether you are Native American or not. A people cannot have their culture stripped away and remain whole. As Chief Seattle said,"... All things are connected like the blood that unites us all..Man did not weave the web of life, he is but a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself." When we treat others without respect we are harming ourselves. This is not worth a short term gain. In the long run we all loose.
I wish to share this, through out my adult life, my lessons were taken with the liquid courage, hiding, feeling ashamed of myself, I wish now that I had this warriors character on understanding my living style at that. Now, I am able to tell all of my experience and with out the aid of alcohol. I love life and myself and walk with pride of the teachings that I can obtain from any and all nations in Canada and the USA first nations.
In order for all of us to heal from the past, we must forgive. It is an unwritten law. We also must learn from the mistakes of others in the past so that we don't repeat the same.
I could not imagine some group taking my kids away to learn the Indian culture/language without my consent. Once I saw this tragedy from the eyes of the American Indian I understand just a little better. This apology will not actually mean anything, but maybe it will start some healing for the American Indians that need to forgive so that they can become the proud and great nation that that they are. You will certianly get my signature and my donation. Aho Matakwiasin.
I am of Scottish heritage. My family has only two generations in North America. Yet I feel the White guilt over these issues of historical trauma quite strongly. I am not sure that I can forgive those Whites who came before me for the cultural and individual destruction they wrought. I strongly applaud and wholly support this journey of forgiveness and healing. It is inspiring.
I am enrolled Mohican and I work in the mental health field. I agree with what Don Coyhis' statements about how intergenerational trauma has negatively affected Native American people. I experienced and witnessed this in my own family and among Native people I have encountered. It's good to focus on healing through forgiveness. How can I help from Waukesha, WI?
Don is a very compassionate man. I thank Creator for bringing him into my life. I am one of many of his White Bison Facilitators and strongly believe in what he does for the Native American community. I met him at the Oroville conference and his deep emotional spirit touched me on how he feels about this forgiveness journey. I will be at the Riverside school to help with the healing and forgiveness journey. I encourage everyone to be there to help release these little ones spirits. AHO
