Dude you should write Tachikoma sacrifice instead of suicide. They sacrificed themselves to save the major, Bato and the people in the island...suicide would be ending their lives just for being sad or some other crap...
This is at the same time the best and worst moment in ghost in the shell, and one of the more touching i've ever seen in a movie or anime...tachikoma's should have gotten a bunch of oscars for their performance ;)
@SuperLycurgus suicide is not dependant upon your emotional state. Suicide just means to kill yourself..motivations don't really matter. Likewise homicide is killing of another person. But not all homicide is murder. Some is accidental, some is negligent, sometimes it's self defense. It's technically all homicide. You can accidentally kill yourself..and it's still technically suicide.
Last week Adult Swim aired the episode "Barrage," where three Tachikoma sacrifice themselves to save Batou. Oh boy, did I cry! The last Tachikoma had time to tell him, "Goodbye, Mr. Batou," before giving up it's life/ghost. I don't cry at movies or TV shows, but the Tachikoma, with their selfless ways and child-like fascination with life, are just very special. Glad I had tissue around!! This morning they aired the last episode of Season One. I can't wait to buy the whole set, what a great show!
@KruegerLot The way I understood it, all the Tachikoma uploaded their 'ghosts' onto a net or something before they sacrificed themselves to stop the bomb, so they aren't "dead for good," but can be downloaded into new armor/machines. But I agree with your comment. I think of their 'hearts' as real 'in spirit', since they do the right thing for others, even if it means sacrificing themselves. Your comment is still beautiful truth, though! :)
Found this link while searching around. It's a Square Enix website (S.E. is among the producers of G.I.T.S., as well as all the "Final Fantasy" games and movies, originally under the name "Square.") Just replace the spaces with periods, and try it out! It features G.I.T.S. "2nd Gig" and "Solid State Society." It's kind of odd but has different features to it. Hope you like it, and thanks again to *everyone* for your wonderful hints, clues, and info!
In just a few minutes -- 3:30 AM, Eastern Standard Time, Comedy Central channel "Adult Swim" will be showing the G.I.T.S./SAC episode "Ag20," in which the Tachikoma sing the song I've been waiting for. I'm very sorry I couldn't give more warning -- I thought they were showing this episode next week instead. I hope some of our mutual fans were able to see it. I hope everyone had a great weekend & have a Happy Halloween!
Does anyone know of any video channel that shows *any* GITS episodes from Season 1 ? So far all I can find is 6 episodes of season SAC on LiveVideo channel. Adult swim is being stingy and only shows one episode per week now. Is the entire internet wiped clean of GITS, or am I just too dumb to know where to look?
@a7laktkota I watch most of my anime (and GitS is no exception) on animefreak tv. Just google it, it has both seasons and one of the movies to my knowledge. Yes, it's free and the website is in english.
@P4per126 Thanks so much. See, I got in trouble on Google. Thought I found all the GITS on "animeUltima" site. But the second I hit the "expand screen" button, it downloaded "Xvid Codec" onto my computer. Then my antivirus whined that it couldn't remove it, told me to remove it manually as it labeled it a potential "adware or phishing" program. Then every button I tried, it tried to install it! (I didn't) Now I can't FIND it to remove it. I'm ... scared, OK? I'll try yours tho. Much Thanks!
I have a number of different addons for my browser (firefox) like Ghostery and AdBlockPlus as well as my antivirus program, G DATA, all of which work in tandem to block pesky ads and prevent me from going to phishing sites and stuff. To my knowledge, animefreak tv has no adware or spyware present on it and I am unable to tell if it has any actual ads (since most ads are auto blocked for me).
By all means, it should be a safe site and you shouldn't have any trouble.
@P4per126 Thank you, from my heart. I took your advice. I have firefox but am kinda new to it. Finding the GITS was no problem. But it absolutely refuses to let me watch (I even opened an account on the site, but no luck). Each time I hit the play button, it takes me to a new page -- and one was the same page my antivirus warned me from installing.
I'm so sad now, and feel guilty for posting so much. You see, I'm mostly homebound and disabled, that's why anime means so much. I'm so sorry, all.
@a7laktkota I've never had to make an account on that site, or any site really, so I don't quite understand what you mean by that. It should simply show the video player (like MegaVideo) with maybe some tabs that give alternate embedded players if the default doesn't work/wrong episode/out of time. Then there should be a list of links to the right that take you to the other episodes. It doesn't require an account, and doesn't take you outside of that site. What is your exact problem?
@P4per126 I keep finding the exact GITS episode. But every time I touch the red "play" button, it opens a new page, and the original page no longer shows the video, but there's an ad in it's place too. I don't have a laptop, and the hospital won't allow me to bring in my desktop -- I'm left with maybe four days here before I have to go in. I have Mozilla/Firefox, but it's clear I don't have your add-ons. I'm not tech-savvy. Hence, the sadness. I'm sorry. But thanks so very much for your help!!
@P4per126 I am trying to send you a VERY important private message, and it seems YouTube will not allow me to. It concerns an award-winning deejay who wishes to contact you about a (non-anime-related) matter you may be interested in. For certain reasons, the message cannot be public. Can you please advise how we may get this message delivered to you privately? I'm pretty sure you'll want to see it :)

@a7laktkota Youtube is cracking down on copyright laws. Your best bet is searching for episodes on google and find where it's streamed or torrent them.
@Togusa Yes, YT is cracking down and so are plenty other resources. I'm hoping to be able to buy the box set (or one of them, at least!) by summer, so I don't have to go through these 'Indiana Jones' hunts-for-treasure and/or practically begging a wonderful group of people to help teach me how to do add-ons or how to do torrents... (i'm compu-ignorant). Everone's been so kind, helpful .. You've all been wonderful, and I will never forget the help and advice you've all given me. Bless you all!!!
@zoomnfast56 Thanks so much for your kind suggestion :) Unfortunately when I found the episode (it aired in November on Comedy Central/Adult Swim), I was surprised that the Tachikoma only sing two to four lines of the song; since it's "a capella," there may not be a full version by the Tachikomas. I felt guilty for asking ... but everyone here has been fantastic and so nice to help. I'm sure your link will come in handy so I'm saving it. Thanks!
@azrielemantia Thanks for your suggestion. I don't blame you not seeing all my posts -- I have *never* posted so many replies to a video (nor anywhere close, yikes!). I prefer to see before buying, and it's 100% my plan to buy the box set(s). Unfortunately, due to being disabled, saving the money to buy them will take a very long time -- I just wanted somewhere to watch the shows in the meantime. I plan to buy a new set from Amazon.
I priced them on Amazon a few weeks ago -- each half-hour is $1.99 USD (not counting taxes & stuff). The box set seems a better deal. Besides, my comp is a few years old and I had it checked out -- am told I'm dangerously low on RAM and need to get a new system (not in my budget) or add RAM, which I'm trying to do ASAP. If you don't get DVD's, how do you save them? (Just curious, I'm compu-ignorant) *blush* ^o^ Thnx!
But now the show, and even it's fans too .. I know really want to own it :) We don't have Netflix.
Now I need to see what set or sets I'm looking for; I saw discussions that some epi's that might not be in some collections ... all I know for sure it that "Adult Swim"-- as raunchy as it can be at times lol -- has *never* shown these few episodes.
BTW, my BFF in TX sends her thanks too, she's puttin' it on the list right now! :)
@a7laktkota I saw the series online two years ago on some anime website I can't remember the name of it. I think it was animefreak.tv or something along those lines just google it. However most of the episodes were file shared which are good but most of them were on mega upload...which was taken down by the feds. You can also buy both seasons on DVD at FYE for like 80 but I didn't want to spend 80 dollars. So I looked around on netflix and they have it...both the show and movies.
@Honorharringtonfan I was checking news before coming here today, and saw this article "Netflix Says the DVD Is Dead, Basically". article at "wwwDOTthemarknewDOTcom/news?open=8076"
@GlassAgate They're machines run by highly-developed computers. Calculating the necessary trajectory and velocity would be to them like walking is to us. =P
This is were they disobayd a command to save there people and used there satalit to blow up a missile that was gonna kill allot of people. I remember this soon all to well.
This is were they disobayd a command to save there people and used there satalit to blow up a missile that was gonna kill allot of people. I remember this soon all to well.
@danfelbm if you watch the episode where they sing this, they end up using the empty "space" in the net as a data storage center for their AIs. Basically, the backed up all their memories and "ghosts" on the net. Motoko makes a statement about finding them randomly on the net in the movie.
+Does anyone have any hints about how to find episodes of this show online here or another site? I watch it every Sunday morning on "Adult Swim"/Cartoon Network, but would love to be able to see it online until I can afford to buy it ... Thanks again for any suggestions!! You all are awesome! :)
And thanks again for all the great hints and info too!
season 1, epidode 15, machine desirantes is the episode where the tachikomas are singing as they are being dispatched from section 9 and the song concerns Batou. i dont know the name or the full meaning of the song, but both that song and this one are very beautiful and sad. this one really made me cry when i watched the season finally = )
There was an episode where the Tachikoma were singing an old folk song (?) and Batou came in and heard them; he asked them if they knew the meaning of the song. Can anyone please help me find that song or the episode it's in? I would be so very grateful for any help with this. I would love so much to see that scene with them and Batou discussing the song. Can anyone please help me? I watch Adult Swim every weekend hoping to see it again ...
@a7laktkota i know what your taking about it goes like "pretty little girl red ribbons she wore..something something something" forgot the lyrics XD but i know what your talking about
@a7laktkota This is from the season finale of Ghost in The Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig. When they sacrificed themselves in order to stop the missile.
@a7laktkota It's when the Tachikomas are being sent off to a laboratory to be stripped apart and studied. Season 1, Episode 15: Time of the Machines. I'm pretty sure that's the episode you're referring to.
@a7laktkota hey bro is the last episode its on my netflix if you have it the whole 2 season is on it the episode is called endless gig its in the middle of the show
@XxSDxX117 I think you are 100% right! That's why it's so emotionally moving when the group -- as individuals, and as a group -- make such an important decision for everyone concerned. Great comment :)
@a7laktkota I found it... Its GITS-SAC Season one, Episode 16. Dona dona dona doo oo na Taking the calf to the market . dona dona dona. The cart sways.. man prioritizes economic factors ahead of sentiments.. friendship being defeated by poverty.
@nijuhashi You cannot imagine my gratitude to see your message! Esp since I'm finally home from hospital. I don't know how you found it but bless you, truly, for your work. I'll have to wait a long time to see it again, due to TV schedule, but thanks to your fine work, at last I know where. You Are Awesome! Thanks SO much :) !!!
@Stolanis What a dear soul you are! I found the video ... but it is blocked from viewing in my country, America. But I am so deeply indebted to you and your efforts. My heartfelt thanks to you.
I don't wish to alarm anyone, but my personal (health) battle seems at a most grim point. Don't worry, my spirit still fights strongly. But if I cannot respond for a few days, know that all comments have touched my heart so. I shall fight to be back ASAP! All my best to everyone here -- Becky
@Stolanis You're so very kind, thank you. Please don't worry. They'll just likely put me in the hospital a few days then release me; I'm used to it now, my 4th trip in, just in the past 5 months. I know what near-death is like; I almost did, in 2006. Instead, I relearned to walk, and took up competitive billiards for years. I'll find my way back, just can't predict when. If I can't post a while, I'll be back someday ;) But thank you, your kind words were a great cheer! Bless you, kind soul :)
@a7laktkota A bit late, but it was in SAC, episode 16. I think I read something about it being a song from the Holocaust, but it may be different between the original Japanese and English dub.
@a7laktkota it was the episode where the domestic terrorist was pretending he had wmd's and motoko went to catch him, realised he was her childhood friend and batou tries to save them by bashing the ground with a massive steel cross. its towards the end of season two, i think, but i'm not sure...
i barely held myself together after seeing this since the little AIs were one of my fave things about the second season. Tachikoma why'd you have to die! *tch* dumb AIs making me feel emotions.
i keep trying to find this other song they were singing when they had yellow tape on them. they sang "pretty little girl red shoes she wore, now i understand" i would liek to hear them sing that again
@CATZEistKRIEG Hi! As you can see on the comments this page, I was looking for the same Tachikoma song that you mention (pretty little girl red shoes she wore...). Thanks to the fantastic GITS fans here on YouTube, I was told (correctly) that the episode you're looking for is "Ag20." [Season 1, episode 16.] If you check out the comments here on this page, someone was kind to post a YT link to it too! I just wanted to share the smile that great fans showed to me :) Hope that helps!
Wish someone would actually post the scene from 2nd gig this from. (where they stop the missle and theyre like "i could swear i heard the tachikoma singing")
Truly one of the greatest moments in anime history. I bawled my eyes out when I watched this the first time ;) It was also compounded by Batou's sheer determination in trying to reach Motoko
At the first glance it seems they're singing their farewell to life, but once you realize they actually saved their memories on the net, you realize what they really mean to tell with this song is that they're not dying, they're actually still alive.
It has something to do with the fact that they jumped at the chance to protect the team at every opportunity, brought a logical and questioning aspect to the team and even though the Major didn't show an outward caring for them, I believe the Tachikomas represented the innocence Motoko once had.
I never, never, never would have guessed I could have cared so much for that damn AI. But when the last Tachikoma joined the others on the satellite, I cried like it was my best friend going.
@TheatreRoom yeah she actually was quite puzzled in one scene when she managed to reclaim a single memory chip though i think it was another episode. That scene just solidified the existence of a potential "so called ghost" for me. Science can't/won't classify what it means to be human (one reason i love this show) but times like this a machine "choosing self-sacrifice" there's simply no protocol for that. Basically you could call it "free will"?
@lonewolfsinger2k Free will, or as I like to call it, self-determination. The Tachikomas developed their AI to the point where they could understand that some rules are not absolute; that in any system there will always be contradictions, and that therefore following the rules of any one system is as equally foolish as following those of any other. A normal computer would just display an error-message and shut down - the Tachikomas... they evolved.
Ayer vi el final de la segunda temporada en el canal 22 y cuando vi lo que hicieron los Tachikomas y como cantaban y lo que dice la canción empecé a llorar, son hermosos!!!!!!
I remember that I cried when the Tachikoma's sacrificed themselves to save Dajima. The song just made it worse; it's unbelievably sad.

@danfelbm if you watch the episode where they sing this, they end up using the empty "space" in the net as a data storage center for their AIs. Basically, the backed up all their memories and "ghosts" on the net. Motoko makes a statement about finding them randomly on the net in the movie.

And thanks again for all the great hints and info too!

TheatreRoom 1 year ago 40
@TheatreRoom yeah she actually was quite puzzled in one scene when she managed to reclaim a single memory chip though i think it was another episode. That scene just solidified the existence of a potential "so called ghost" for me. Science can't/won't classify what it means to be human (one reason i love this show) but times like this a machine "choosing self-sacrifice" there's simply no protocol for that. Basically you could call it "free will"?
lonewolfsinger2k 5 months ago
@lonewolfsinger2k Free will, or as I like to call it, self-determination. The Tachikomas developed their AI to the point where they could understand that some rules are not absolute; that in any system there will always be contradictions, and that therefore following the rules of any one system is as equally foolish as following those of any other. A normal computer would just display an error-message and shut down - the Tachikomas... they evolved.
