  • thats what i call a man who doent give in to commercialism . need a birdhouse ill make u a bird house, what a pictureframe ill do the same. oh u need a house ill cut up some 4x4 dont worry

  • i hope you got 7 ply cooper tires on that thing. just kidding with ya.. i have a hudson,, the oscar 36.. cuts good.. thats cool for a homemade saw.. doesn't the blade wear the tires out, just curious..??

  • How did you make that?

  • Sorry to keep bothering you but I started accruing parts for my saw mill and had some more questions. What is the HP/RPM of the motor and how did you do the drive from the motor to the wheel hub? Is it a chain or belt? Tensioners must be need strategically right?

  • What pushes the log threw the blade?

  • @mannhorn34 read on page 3 , 3rd post up from bottom

  • What is the psi on the tires?

  • @mannhorn34 Nothin special 30 - 32

  • how many fpm. is that blade running it seems awfully fast ,I use water with dish soap on my Hudson Oscar 28 it lubes the blade cool and helps keep the pine pitch from building up. what do you use for the head drive, you mentioned it has three speeds, is a lawn mower transaxle? my dad and I refurbished an old Ireland mill a few years ago and used a hydrostatic transaxle, it worked well as it gave infinite speed so you could cut as fast as possible no matter wood type or log size.

  • You should draw up some plans for this thing and sell them. I would buy them! Great Job!

  • very ingenius, car tires for the drive system, and vise grips to adjust.

I'd feel better if you fashioned some sort of guard though, looks dangerous if something should go wrong.

But great work, thanks for posting, your giving me ideas.

  • that was damm sweet little slow but gets the job done for sure

  • Hi, I come a long line of loggers, I was just wanting to know what you used to keep the saw band lubed? If you are dry cutting, this is a bad idea because the heat will change the Temperature of the blade and make it unsafe over time. You might try a drip system with used oil or even just water to keep the saw band nice a cool. But all in all I really like your outfit.

  • @Clifford1966

I have a small riding lawnmower gas tank that i have a drip system, i use water with a little dish soap, it is applied to the blade right at the guide bearings right before entering the log, thanks

  • @67fastback428 soooo.... about 30 mins alog?

  • Hey man just wanted to say I think your mill is awesome. I am fixing to make one myself. I really love the way it travels itself. I know you said it was a washing machine motor an stuff but could you go into more detail about how you have them wired and stuff. again nice mill & GREAT job

  • i could do this kind of work ALL DAY LONG! just sitting somewhere in the alaskan or canadian woods, and slicing it up! the smell of fresh cutted wood is better than any drpepper!

  • summer or winter tires be needed`?

  • i was wondering if u could tell me how u guys are mounting your hubs to the shaft ?

  • @chubby208523

my mill has car hubs , one from a rear wheel drive car, just used bearings that fit over the axle shaft & drilled & bolted them to the frame, for the drive wheel....

The other hub is from a chrysler front wheel drive car, but it is the rear hub, so no axle just a short shaft with 4 mounting holes on the back of it, just drilled 4 holes & bolted it on... thanks for the interest, I see you made it to diybandmil, good luck..

  • it takes long enough to cut a piece of wood?

  • I would like to know how the blade never goes off... Your tip is highly appreciated.

  • Great job - congrats

  • TE FELICITO ES BUEN IMBENTO

  • I suppose the wheels are set fairly tight with low low air pressure and then the blade is tensioned by adding air pressure to the tires?

  • How does it come that the blade never runs off, also on steel wheels, do you have to put them that awfully precisely on it to prevent running of?

  • what's the size and brand of you used.?

  • would hate to be around that when the blade pops/.

  • @palehorsepalerider

it has a guard on it now.

  • Most of the time you stand behind the machine, unless you lack common sense. The blades blow out to the side and normally you need to over crank the tension , which should be hard since he has tires for wheels.

  • I suppose the wheels are set fairly tight with low low air pressure and then the blade is tensioned by adding air pressure to the tires?

  • Just kidding there 67fastback428.

    I think it's really cool.

But, as another commented, how does it move into the cut?

  • Don't tell me, you adjust blade tension with tire inflation!

  • the square tube that the wheels are mounted to has one side that has a tube inside another tube and you tension it with the vice grips that you can see

  • It has a electric drive system. First there is an old electric washing machine motor that drives an old lawn mower transmission & that drives an old garage door opener & that pulls the mill back & forth, 3 speeds forward 1 reverse. and for faster reverse speeds I also have another electric motor on it now that gives me a much faster reverse speed, If you wand more pics go to photobucket and type in 67fastback428 or go to diybandmill com I have an album there also as do many others, thanks

  • @picklehead7

    that would be rather awsome!

  • beautiful. how do you keep the blades on the tires? what kind of a drive system? how is the saw moving?

  • is it nessesary to make blade cooling ? I sow other saws, with water tap just above the blade that goes in the log. what abot wear out of tire?

  • blade cooling is a good idea, it is easy to make. as for tire wear I don't think it is any problem, I have used my saw for about 5 years and show no wear.

  • thanks for tips, I am almost set to build my own mill.Just need blade guides (thesse are on the way from mettal milling shop). Cant wait for vocations. I will post my video once done !

  • Your welcome. Another really good tip. Go to diybandmill com. It's not my sight, but I highly recomend it!!! My mill and lots of others are there. And lots of good people willing to help. good luck...

  • very nice saw i guess my question is the same as a lot of other people. can you post a close up video of how the blade is attached to the wheels? thanks

  • is des langsam

  • any1 have or know where i can get plans for a mill?

  • Do a search on google or ebay, I'm sure there are lots of plans out there. I had no plans when I built mine. I just looked for info on the net & started building. There is a sight with lots of homemade bandmills including mine. If you sign up tell them I sent you. The sight is

    diybandmill . com thanks

  • don't worry about cutting slow, better that than sorry. you could certainly do some for me!!!!

  • real nice video, by the looks of things its doing real nice job wish i had one! any plans i would like to make one but use gas power?

  • Jeff Foxworthy needs to see this video.

If your bandsaw is constructed with two old tires and a set of train tracks, you might be a redneck.

  • Guilty, there's lots of things worse than being a redneck

  • home made lol

  • man thats a very cool horne made sawmill

  • What's the advantage to cutting so slow? Is the quality of the cut better?

  • Well, there are a few reasons I cut this log slow. this is not a real big saw, and it only has a 6.5 hp electric motor on it.

This was not a new blade on it at the time.

This was a dead tree and was already dry and really hard. This log was almost 24", and the slabs were agout 16" wide that I was cutting.

And yes under these conditions, slow gives me a better cut. I may get a bigger motor some day, but for now this is it, and I'm happy with it, thanks

  • you need to get it faster , at this speed you will only made 3 or 4 2X4 in a full day ....

  • why is everyone worried about it being slow? I'm not!!!! It has 3 cutting speeds, this is the slowest.

  • Well done

  • wow, badass

  • wow man thats pretty sweet for just home made but damn that thing is so slow. and word of advice something that might be better for you is if you could find some solid rubber tires to mound on that and cut a grove into that tire so the blade would have a spot to rest it would be alot safer. i worked at a sawmill for 5 years and when those blades go you dont wana be anywhere near them. Weve had them come off or break and land 200 feet away from the mill.. safty gaurds would be a plus.

  • I love this! I started to make one with the wheels, tyres, and engine of a 250cc motorbike, but people said I was mad, and I never finished it. What sort of power does the motor have? I reckoned it would need at least 15HP to be effective.

  • Did you cut grooves in the tyres to keep the saw blade from slipping off?

  • fantastic, I made a lathe but this really works great, wow.

  • make a wind-mill to turn all the parts.

  • waters more consistent.... but yeah...

  • Wow, I've thought of making a similar design myself, but wow, no guards? I wouldn't want to be around when the band saw breaks or comes off those tires. Works great, though. Nice piece of wood.

  • I have since made guards. But at the time I would start the saw and get clear of it. It does the cutting automaticly. I have also wired it to a remote control switch.

  • How about some plans for how you built it?

  • wats the purpose of the tires

  • well the saw belt goes around the tires and the tires spin causing the saw belt to spin meaning it has a spinning saw belt cutting a piece of tinber... maybe you should check out some other vids ;)

  • well done mr engineer !!! excelent...

  • Hi, very cool, what does a rough sawn cubic metre of cherry sell for?

  • cool!

  • yes a little slow but workes very well for what i have it it

  • This is very cool.Do you put the rest through a regular saw after you get the wane off?Or make cants with it then cut em to width?I've only run a sawmill for 15 months so I have experience with blade saws that either have edger blades with the main blade or a lucas mill saw the turns the blade from horizontal to vertical.Thx for the cool vid.

  • This is really awesome! Man, I DO love watching this over and over again!
