Preserving the traditional music is important, but it's not enough to preserve the culture. You need to develop it too, otherwise the culture dies. Modern Bhutanese music that is different from the traditional type is a good thing as it means your culture is developing. The key is to figure out how to develop the modern culture in a uniquely Bhutanese way, using the influence of foreign cultures to enrich Bhutanese culture without being swallowed up by the foreign culture eg Bollywood music.
It is very true when we have to preserve our tradition we try and copy something that is not ours. I strongly feel that our traditional songs should not be forgotten to any modern ones. They tell how strong our culture is.
We need to promote these songs more and make Bhutanese people realize What pure Bhutanese song is supposed to sound like.. I am so sick of the the new Bhutanese songs which are basically Bollywood songs sung in the Bhutanese language. Most Bhutanese people are soo stupid that they don't even realize how the essence of their music is slowly being dismantled.

I am surprised how RAPA always gets away with cultural rape of ethnic communities- be it Lhokpu, Brokpa, Layap or whoever. Dressing up in obviously cheaply made versions of a local dress, singing a patriotic song in Dzongkha and according to Bhutanese dance steps is nothing short of cultural imperialism and cheap selling away of cultural heritage. It´s a big shame!
Would you rather be have Bejing central head quarters control what you sing and how you dress? We all make sacrifices for our country. I wish I could do alot of things but I can't because Bhutan needs us. Now think about that and stop being so selfish. 100 years of good governance has spoiled you.
