  • @FutureAbe YOU CAN'T SPELL EITHER...MORON

  • @FutureAbe A more apt name for you would be FutureApe as you are not fully evolved!

  • This song is so rich and beautiful, Laura...I love her, always have. So glad to hear on this site of her induction into the hall of fame!

  • After all the years I'm so happy to see her get inducted into the R n R Hall of fame. she is most deserving and long overdue!

  • Congratulations Laura, to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, April, 2012. We're Happy for you... !

  • She needs more airtime -- the world needs her again.

  • @aattura : so true, I think she would be very popular today..

  • Laura delivers such heartfelt passion here, I am continually amazed at her awesome talent!

  • Another great one. Sad song.

  • I am so glad to have found this after so many years. Such a wonderfully melancholy piece... why do I do things I never mean to do , why do I speak so carelessly... Such a universal lament

  • Beautiful song, beautiful woman, beautiful voice, beautiful everything. Thanks for existing Laura!!

  • I love Laura Nyro. She was a strong influence of my music. She is so soulful and talented. Such a depth of emotion in her music and her writing and performance style is singular. Her candle burned out too soon.

  • Hugely underrated talent. Up there with Carol King I think as one of her generation's great songwriting ladies

  • My favorite song for the week. How can I choose an all-time fave when nearly all just knock me out.? Lets see..today is Friday...Her first songs start the fave lineup. To Hell with it....Laura Sang and Wrote them all...and I play them all. I have them all....But I come here to UTUBE because I don`t have a turntable anymore!

  • Ah, my favorite Laura Nyro song of all time. I used to listen to The First Songs over and over. Love Laura Nyro and I still cringe every time I hear thoe Fifth Dimension versions of her songs. Billy`s Blues is my 2nd fave.

  • @WLASteve I know what you mean.

  • some things you need to be fogiven for

  • Kind of like Nina Simone...Nice voice, she looks like someone familiar to me. I have to say that I am not aware of her until now. I like the clarity and depth of her voice. She sounds like someone that I could listen to for a long period of time. Thanks for the introduction of her.

  • This song makes me cry, touches me deeply. I too grieve her loss.

She must've been an incredible and lovely to know. Her songs are the most loveliest I've ever heard.

  • wow i just heard of her 10 seconds. she just gotta fan out of me.

    what a BEAUTIFUL voice.

    damn.

its so angelic even though she is sing about pain

  • A gem. *****

  • still crying, the world a sadder place without our miss laura...another year come & go, & she remain in our hearts....

  • Dont you hate it when you cant' take it back....a lost phone number, a lost address...time passes...things change. You pass on opposite sides of the street, but the is so much traffic you cant cross it to say "I'm Sorry, I never mean to make you feel that way..."

  • Lesley Gore does this one live. I wonder how many decades it will take Mariah Carey to get around to recording this one?

  • my god this is a great song!

  • Why does silence feel all the more beautiful after being caressed so lovingly? This piece must come unfettered from the muses. It's apparent simplicity is misleading. It just works. It just fits. It;s just right. Thank You Laura Nyro. I grow richer each time I visit your creations. PEACE...

  • Thr piano and cello frame her voice so perfectly! The way she caresses her lyric with her voice (unlike Barbara Sterisand who, though she too has a magnificent voice, can't seem to pass up many sustained notes without having to hot dog all around them) gives this performance such a wallop.

Thanks so much for posting this simple and lovely perdormance.

  • In my opinion, Laura Nyro was the best all around songwriter, singer, and performer ever! An innovator and inspiration to musicians of every kind. I truly grieve her. She's been a part of my soul since the first time I heard her. Thank you for it all, Laura. What a loss!

  • its about my agapi!!!

  • DAMN........! This just twists my soul completely. Never can I spare a dry eye afterwards. Absolute catharsis

  • @docambra Absolutely! Well said.

  • She was my all time favorite. A most excellent song.

  • My all-time favorite Laura song among dozens. Thank you so much for posting this beautiful rendition. Got to hear her sing it in-person many times. She was a soulful

earth-angel who graced us for 49 years. Never been another like her, so far...So pure. Just straight-ahead talent, inspired writing, playing and singing. Love you forever, dear sister. Thanks for the blessings and the white rose. I'm keeping your songs alive and well-sung!

  • Laura STILL affects me the same way she did when I heard her sing in a small concert in Bridgeport, Connecticut at the college there ... I cried from the minute she came on stage till the moment she walked off . leaving us is awe of her ... An incredible, awesome, beautiful, artist so greatly missed ... I love you Laura ♥ ♥ ♥

  • I am so overwhelmed. Her depth and range penetrates to my soul. What a wonderful surprise to be able to discover such a talent. I forgot what it was like to really be moved by a musical artist.

  • She was so gifted. Love her stuff. Her best-known songs are not her best songs!

  • Thank you who ever posted this. I've been checking for years, but today, when I need it most--its there. Thank you.

    Lighting a candle

  • i think her singing voice is good when she "croons" like on this song or in "Billy's Blues." It is when she wails or sings uptempo that I tend to make a face.

  • Such a beautiful song, brings tears 2 my eyes everytime I hear it..I was introduced to it by Sandra Bernhard when she covered it on her one woman show,Love the original and Sandra's cover both kill me everytime...

  • Beautiful, passionate, soulful, devastating Laura.

  • So Gorgeous a Song - it made me cry.

  • Exceptional phrasing and sentiment. Laura's finest recording - 'just my thoughts!

    Curt aka "Southside Kid"

  • By the way, Laura's hubby was a Viet Nam war veteran and LOVED this country, especially New York City.

    Curt

  • @curtflirt1 She also had along time woman lover up until her death named Maria Desiderio. Maria died two years after Laura of the same ovarian cancer.

  • @curtflirt1 I was raised in New York, Little Italy, always off to the Village to play for money on the street. RIP Sweet Soul, you will always be missed by me.

    Love You Girl Patty

  • Just discovered Laura Nyro. Wow, what an
