It was not the munitions that exploded. The hold of the Lusitania is further aft from the where the torpedo was supposed to have struck. Had the munitions ignited the whole ship would have been blown to pieces. The Lusitania wreck is pretty well contained. The damage is from the severe impact to seabed. The captain did not follow two important protocols issued by the British Admiralty. She was not at full speed and not going in a zigzag pattern. Had she done so the u-boat would have missed.

Actually, the germans only fired a single torpedo to just scare the people and to see if she was really carrying guns but they really didn't intend to sink her. They thought that Lusitania can survive with one torpedo hit. :(
Apparently she sank in 15-20 minutes from being torpedoed.. She was still moving forward as she sank! Her sinking was celebrated in Germany and the public partied in the streets as the government at the time stated that she was carrying arms from America to the uk. To assist in WW1.
@markflack The brutality on all sides generated by war is so sad... Many researchers still believe that she was carrying war contraband, as otherwise it's hard to explain why she sank so fast. WW1 brutalized many people in Europe after so much was seen and experienced; sad as this is, the British Admiralty was starving Germany into submission, which cost tens or perhaps hundreds of thousands of civilian lives, even after the 1918 armistice. The innocent victims of war...RIP.
@DeutschwehR03 Yes it was staged! but there were warning in time magazine that people should not go with that ship, and that there is a risk for the ship to sink!
wrong, the wreck shows no indication of a massive ammunition explosion, examine wrecks like the Arizona, the Hood, the Invincible, and other ships that have suffered catastrophic internal explosions, they're blown to piecies. Much of the damage sustained by the Lusitania came from her impacting the seabed. Had there been a large ammunition explosion the ship would've been blown completly apart, and the debries field would be much larger then it is.
The torpedo struck just behind the bridge, hitting a nearly empty coal bunker, which in turned ignighted the coal dust that was still in the bunker, and the suddenly influx of water into the boilers overloaded the ship's steam generators, wh. The point I'm making is the wreck site shows little evidence of an intenral ammunition explosion, if there was an interal ammo explosion why isn't the bow completley severed and why is the debries field confined to the wreck

@DanielHami23 Indeed they were. The chief difference was that Mauretania was engined with Parsons turbines, enabling a top speed of over 27 kts. Mauretania held the Blue Riband from about 1909 until the Normandie took it from her in the 1930's, I believe it was. I'm going from memory on the dates, but the point was that the Mauretania was the fastest liner on the Atlantic for a lot of years.

The Lusitania was transporting ammunition and was armed, although she looked like a civilian passenger ship. The British Admiralty did all to get American civilians on board. They knew that America enters the war, when American civilians are victims of a German submarine. The British Admiralty used American civilians as shields.
The most tragic person in this incident was the commander of the Lusitania - Captain Turner. He was the scapegoat for the criminal behavior of the British Admiralty.
@mafian1520 of course... Ever heard of the German cruise ship "Wilhelm Gustloff" sunk by a sovjet submarine on January 30th 1945? Over 10,000 people mostly civilians (women and children) died in the ice cold Baltic Sea. And the commander of the Soviet sub? He was declared to a hero.
@mafian1520 All I wanted to say is that shit may happen in war (especially in naval war). RMS Lusitania was used as a trooper transporter before. And The German Imperial navy never honored that commander for sinking this ship. He was honored but that was for other successful sinkings. And nobody can claim himself to fight without causing death of civilians (remember the bombs on cities in WW2)
my great granddad was on that when it went down, he told my granddad he jumped off the end as the water swallowed it, he said he was in the water for 5 hours till he got picked up.
@propjam2 well it was barely posible to survive 5 hours in the water of the sea especially when it was winter and autumn but it might be posibly if u got isolated pretty well congarts if he did sucseed it was probobly very hard and painfull
Why do all th good ships back in those days get sunk? The Titanic, The Britanic adn this ship which i never heard of and the Oylmpic (which got a scrath but still!)
@jaykay98789 The Titanic, Britannic and Olympic were sisters, all made by the white star line, and the tree of them sank without having a long erm, "shiplife".
@Arianne2n The olympic did have a long ship life she survived through the war, not like the Britannic, and got used as scrap metel was it? in 1945 or somewhere around there
Lusitania is second only to Titanic in terms of infamy, however the Lusitania Class Liners were four years older then their White Star Counter parts. The only reason I can think of as to why so many aret thinking the Lusitania, Mauritania, Britannic, Olympic, and Titanic are sister ships, they're not, they're two seperate classes. The only thing they share is that they belong to a design class known as the Four Funnel Class (Liners with four stacks built in 1858 and 1897-1922)
@snakes3425 I think the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff could easily give either the Titanic or the Lusitania a run for its money in terms of infamy. Google it.
Wow guys you sound like experts... The Lusitania was carrying Munitions and over 300 troops Germany had to sink her and had agreed only to sink if there were weapons and there were Germany was also allowed to search ships according to the rule its our fault for not keeping our dual instead we hid the truth... also the dug up the Zimmerman Telegram guess what? yeah its fake... we entered world war one for nothing. They were selling old weapons to Mexico to make money for new weapons on the front.

@strumpanzerwagena7v You are an expert? Maybe a boiler exploded to help the flooding who knows!! All I know it a U-boat torpedoed it on the starboard bow and it rolled over in 18 minutes and roughly 1,200 were killed including 2 of my relatives who were on board at the time
Read real history not conspiricy theories. President Wilson was anti-war, and Germany backed down in 1915. Wilson instead sent troops to fight in the civil war in Mexico after rebels attacked towns on the US side of the border, the final straw with Germany was in 1917 when it was revealed Germany had offered support to Mexico for an invasion of the US if the US entered the war, and Germany reintroduced unrestricted submarine warfare sinking three US merchant ships
@snakes3425 You should read "Lies my teachers told me", then make a research about what you are calling "REAL", and by this;
A little group of willful men, representing no opinion but their own, have rendered the great government of the United States helpless and contemptible
-W.W
If there are men in this country big enough to own the government of the United States, they are going to own it.
-W.W.
..and this are just quotes...
If you do your homework, you'll know what he meant on this.
Oh god not this again, point I keep trying to make is that I see conspiricy theories as excuses to not take responsibility for your own actions. People, be they tea partiers or occupiers bitch and moan about responsible government and responsibile finances, yet forget change starts by first improving themselves.
@snakes3425 Ok, then stay in your cube of "reality". There is so much people pointing out conspiracy theories, but is not all about this theories, since history is a theory itself. Either you are really lying to yourself, or you are truly brainwashed. Trust me, I enjoy my life.. I'm not trying to blame anybody but ourselves. That's why thing are changing now. It's never late to start living again.. There is research, or I can just be another lazy bullshit talker as many people are. INTERNET=TOOL
I expected that reply, suddenly you can't condemn the U-20 because of few boxes of bullets? Suddenly Saddam Hussien is innocent of all crimes because of faulty intellegence? The Economic Meltdown is all the fault of big banks and big buisness and the 99% who took out those bad loans knowing full well they couldn't pay them back are blameless? The Holocaust and Japanese war crimes are all excusable because at least Germany and Japan didn't firebomb cities or use nuclear weapons
I totally agree. History is littered with falsehoods that start the wars of the arrogant. The Gulf of Tonkin incident in Vietnam for example The list goes on and on. Good that you help bring honesty, truth and light to the world. You represent the more evolved form of our species. The ones getting smarter and not fooled so easily into killing another. Snakes3425 perpetuates the status quo, is a strawman, an unconscious CIA foot-soldier, part of the problem, not the solution.
Honesty, truth, light?? All I see are excuses, that let the other guy off the hook. Just because someone where's rags and is poor doesn't mean they're still not human, and still not capable of the same cruelties you accause the big powers of. I refuse however to let U-20 off the hook. You can't prove those bullets were heading for France let alone who shipped them, for all you know Irish rebels were smuggling weapons in to prepare for the Easter Rising
I'm part of the problem because I refuse to say U-20 was right in sinking the Lusitania. I've seen photos of the wreck, I've seen what the people you call enlightened are doing to it, cutting it apart trying to prove that there was controband on board so they can write a tell all book or to take her artifacts to sell to museums or collectors and make money, not caring that it's a grave. I'm not the problem, it's people like you who forget the tragedy that are the problem
@EM0Roxxas There are some extremely sad stories of loss connected with the Lusitania,the human cost was just as bad as the Titanic but all anybody ever remembers is the Titanic,the poor old Lusitania and it's victims get forgotten,that's why these tributes on here are so important.

WHY DID GERMANY ATTACK THE SHIP ?
At sea the U.S. flag was replaced by an English flag !
Then they deliberately drove into German waters. I need not mention 1WW !
This was done to draw America into a war against Germany.
Why did they do that?
Because Germany has won the 1WW to 1915. That could not tolerate the Rothschild Family.
They says to England: You can still win, we put U.S. in the war and you give us the
Palestinian territory. This was discussed later in the "Belfour Delegration" !

MrRammsteinKicksAss 4 months ago 2
@MrRammsteinKicksAss Yes i Listen. Damn in Ice Cold Baltic Sea .
mafian1520 4 months ago
@mafian1520 All I wanted to say is that shit may happen in war (especially in naval war). RMS Lusitania was used as a trooper transporter before. And The German Imperial navy never honored that commander for sinking this ship. He was honored but that was for other successful sinkings. And nobody can claim himself to fight without causing death of civilians (remember the bombs on cities in WW2)

The Nazi party didn't exist then. Try reading some history and lay off GTA for a while.

Why do all th good ships back in those days get sunk? The Titanic, The Britanic adn this ship which i never heard of and the Oylmpic (which got a scrath but still!)
jaykay98789 4 months ago
@jaykay98789 The Titanic, Britannic and Olympic were sisters, all made by the white star line, and the tree of them sank without having a long erm, "shiplife".
Arianne2n 4 months ago
@Arianne2n The olympic did have a long ship life she survived through the war, not like the Britannic, and got used as scrap metel was it? in 1945 or somewhere around there
jaykay98789 4 months ago
@jaykay98789
The only thing they share is that they belong to a design class known as the Four Funnel Class (Liners with four stacks built in 1858 and 1897-1922)
snakes3425 4 months ago
@snakes3425 I think the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff could easily give either the Titanic or the Lusitania a run for its money in terms of infamy. Google it.
McLaren082 3 months ago
Umm, the Olympic DIDN'T sink. First, it was a luxsery cruiser, then they used it as a battle ship. Duh! Go to "The RMS Olympic on youtube.

Read real history not conspiricy theories. President Wilson was anti-war, and Germany backed down in 1915. Wilson instead sent troops to fight in the civil war in Mexico after rebels attacked towns on the US side of the border, the final straw with Germany was in 1917 when it was revealed Germany had offered support to Mexico for an invasion of the US if the US entered the war, and Germany reintroduced unrestricted submarine warfare sinking three US merchant ships

reighs1 4 months ago
@snakes3425 You should read "Lies my teachers told me", then make a research about what you are calling "REAL", and by this;
A little group of willful men, representing no opinion but their own, have rendered the great government of the United States helpless and contemptible
-W.W
If there are men in this country big enough to own the government of the United States, they are going to own it.
-W.W.
..and this are just quotes...
If you do your homework, you'll know what he meant on this.
carloandreral 2 months ago
@carloandreral
Oh god not this again, point I keep trying to make is that I see conspiricy theories as excuses to not take responsibility for your own actions. People, be they tea partiers or occupiers bitch and moan about responsible government and responsibile finances, yet forget change starts by first improving themselves.
snakes3425 2 months ago
@snakes3425 Ok, then stay in your cube of "reality". There is so much people pointing out conspiracy theories, but is not all about this theories, since history is a theory itself. Either you are really lying to yourself, or you are truly brainwashed. Trust me, I enjoy my life.. I'm not trying to blame anybody but ourselves. That's why thing are changing now. It's never late to start living again.. There is research, or I can just be another lazy bullshit talker as many people are. INTERNET=TOOL
carloandreral 2 months ago
@carloandreral

Snakes3425 perpetuates the status quo, is a strawman, an unconscious CIA foot-soldier, part of the problem, not the solution.
nickgonewalkabout 2 months ago
@nickgonewalkabout agreed...

@nickgonewalkabout
Honesty, truth, light?? All I see are excuses, that let the other guy off the hook. Just because someone where's rags and is poor doesn't mean they're still not human, and still not capable of the same cruelties you accause the big powers of. I refuse however to let U-20 off the hook. You can't prove those bullets were heading for France let alone who shipped them, for all you know Irish rebels were smuggling weapons in to prepare for the Easter Rising
snakes3425 2 months ago
@nickgonewalkabout
