The guy doesn't actually know what he's talking about, but he actually learned his pitch well. For someone who doesn't know anything about this, his explanation is clear and explains the principle and difference more or less correctly. Good for him, he's doing what is expected of a store clerk. It's much better than "eeeerhm, this one is better, for eeeerhm, games and such, because it eeeerhm, has 2 more i's, eeeerhm... it's faster... and better... erhm, you know?"

i use the core 2 quad q8300, 8 gigs of slower ddr2 800mhz ram and an ati HD6950 XxX 2gb version and i dont think ill be needing to upgrade soon, maybe a new processor and ram but im good for now
This is only in desktops, unless the laptop doesn't have the mobile processor. However, most of the laptops sold today have the mobile processor. Pretty much if you're looking for a desktop, you go with i5 or i7. If you're looking for a laptop, you would go with i3 or i7. Derp.
HT works by duplicating the registers on the chip so that an operating system can see duplicate logical CPUs. Each logical CPU literally stores the information physically in a different location but they can only use certain ALU functions in series. I have an Intel Core i7-2600K 3.4 ghz. Just built a new system today. It's fine. I'm not blown away but I haven't tried anything too intense yet. Just some WoW.
@ReinhardSchuster an i7 is more for multitasking than it is for power. They work better for virtualization, so you can run multiple OSs simultaneously. Usually the more cores you have, the more efficiently it can multitask. Higher clock speed allows it to do heavy processing tasks more efficiently, but more cores with lower clock speeds allows it to process multiple things more efficiently, though some programs aren't designed to take advantage of multiple cores.
I have a mac pro and paid apple 42,500.00 to have my 12 core machine transformed to a 1990 model running a 386 O.S. with 32MB hard drive and a 120 mHz RAM for nostalgic reasons. Am I Ok with this? thanks. can I play 3D games on this monsta?LOL!
you gotta realize to he has to keep it simple because most people buying a pc from bestbuy wouldn't understand the correct lingo... if they did they'd just build the PC from scratch themselves and skip the security package upsell at the end as well.
I hate best buy trying to explain computers for me, I make sure i ask really tough questions she they scramble, then i tell them I already know the answer...
@knighthawkls1 Indeed, I do the same they are incapable of answering a decent question, because if you actually understood a lot of the questions, well. you wouldnt be working at Best Buy. I have found that off camera & with a bit of common sense a lot of them will just advise you under a breathe to hit up NewEgg. & thats.. EGGcellent Advice :)
Everyone settle down im just going to get right to it AMD is the best they have the fastest dual gpu (6990) now the fastest single gpu that beats the 580 the (7970) and have the worlds first 8 core gpu granted the gpu's are not as great as intel's the price cut is more than enough so your bang for buck goes farther face it intel and nvidia fanboys AMD has won MUUUHAHAHAHA! (EVIL LAUGHTER).
Everyone has to realize that Intel doesn't do the same thing for every generation. They even change up the features under the same line and generation.
For instance, Intel Core i5's (previous generation) typically had 2 cores hyper-threaded for a 4 virtual core processor. The higher ends of the generation used 4-cores (not hyper-threaded). Since the new generations of Core processors came out, Core i5 generally had 4 physical cores.
The best way to find out is just to look up your processor.
Being that I work at geek squad I'm constantly complaining that the computer department is explaining computer features wrong to the customers and they come back to us later complaining that they got told wrong information. @alxrockshotmailcouk Beacause I'm 15 it doesnt mean that I do not know the computer science... of course I know, and I have the knowledge for every part of the computer that is working... I have found a problem on my friend's computer and i solved in 5 minutes but the two technician who visited him to solve the problem, they couldnt find what the hell was...
uhhh my lenovo t410 has a core i5 vPro, two physical cores and two threads once again a pretty-boy with a nerds job talking about stuff he dosnt know about
Tell me how a virtual Core helps me. Seriously and no sarcasm.
My thoughts on virtual and emulation is that something has to actually run to do the emulation so it's like 2x the process which means slower.
And just because I have 2 extra cores doesn't mean the system will use the extra power.Win 7 and 8 uses the extra cores but I haven't found one program that uses more than 2.
That said, everything else is expense and free money to AMD and Intel.
From an IT stand point, I look at what is my organization/client asking for, and what are the ultimate needs. I'm not going to recommend a wiz bang i7 if all they really need is an i5 or even an i3. From a gamer standing point I say don't be cheap, but also see what products work best for you. an i-5 with a GTX 580 may be better for you than an i7 with a 550ti so it comes down to what can you afford. and what are YOUR ultimate needs.
@OrderlyIdiots that too serves no need in the gaming world lol. in fact, id bet my 2500k would stomp your little phenom 2 x6 in well, just about everything!
@fanofCOH Wrong, maybe for everyday applications and some old games but the new games that are coming out are taking advantage of multiple cores and the more cores the better, you and greg81809 are just as bad as each other, you facts are old and outdated. just like your computer!
@AMDjack13 once i get my new psu in ill be glad to debnk this myth. no game used 6 cores, let alone 4. again, if you or someone else you know's who has a phenom x6 would like to take me up on a in game challenge to test the cpu's then by all means, im game
@AMDjack13 exactly the price is good for something that does the job, but intel wows you.. go fuck yourself u cheap piece of shit.... go make some money and buy yourself a nice intel computer so u understand what an i7 does to peoples experience with gaming, architecture, designing programs, running multiple tasks. especially with hyper threading technology that intel features in there best lineup. fuck 8150s...
@greg81809 Wow, umadbrah! I am guessing youve never even used a FX-4100 because it blew my mind after using a corei5. Gaming is of the map with it too, way better than an i5 with a GTX 560. And design programs,it fucking devours them. I use really intensive programs like Adobe CS5 Master Collection and Visual Studio 2010 Premium. Money isnt a problem for me so dont call me cheap for those programs cost way more than your little pussy build computer.Your the cumshot your mother shouldve swallowed

@NapFloridian your mom was cute sucking those dicks hrough glory holes. she gave an example of how shes such a whore and thats why i brought it up to you..... your mom is nasty bro...... think about your mom getting fucked.
@greg81809 and who the heck even needs half of what you got. I run more intensive programs that what ever "big" game you think you got and i don't need an SLI GTX 580 to make it work correctly
@AMDjack13 people want what i have..... why do you think people try to get the best for their machines.... i never had invested into this video cards, evga gave me the mother board and the 2 gtx's as a sponsor gift. i use my machine for beta tests, i personally dont care for what you use your shitty AMD for .... you probubly search for your whore mother that abandoned you after finding out what kind of a retard she has for a son. i hope you drink your milk and grow the fuck up you stupid cunt.
@greg81809 Hmm.. I have 2 Subi's and a Truck, & I still dont believe half of what you say. A BRZ really wouldve been easier to say an used this or that.. wow in this economy you have money flying out ur Vagina .
@DrPeterVenkman um i have a penis.... im a male a brz is a subaru but the brz, fr-s and the 86 are all the same cars made by subaru and toyota... do ur research and i am a succesful person, oh by the way the i7 is not worth a billion bucks and the subaru brz is 24k base price sticker may be 27.....
Ok, i had to remove my other comment because its misleading due to the different core designs and core count. Here is how it works.
i3 has two different core types, Clarkdale and Sandy Bridge. Socket 1156 and socket 1155. Both of these support hyper-threading. They are dual core processors only.
i5 has three different core types, Clarkdale, Lynnfield and Sandy Bridge. The Clarkdale is a dual core and does support Hyper-threading. The Lynnfield is a quad core and does not support HT. cont.
At least I have a good excuse for the i7, then: Multithreaded rendering with Cinema4d, where the difference in speed gain isn’t only on the paper but actually visible. Even as few as 10% speed gain in raw processing power give you an extra day for rendering animations or allowing additional changes according to customer wishes or can make the difference between meeting a deadline or not. ;)
You can have all the high speed you want... for games it doesn't really matters, 4 high speed cores do the job just fine for any hardcore gamer. This Intel-fanboy thing is just throwing money away
@Metin2antharos So we both have our own opinions but i have to disagree with that because AMD and Intel both make great microprocessors for either a gamer, casual user or entry gamer.
I think you are wrong with the core i5, Im pretty sure all of the processors like i3 i5 and i7 support Hyper Threading. And then I will just be saying that the core i5 and i7 support Turbo boost but the i3 doesnt
According to Wikipedia I'm right... With one exception that I didn't know about: the Core i5-6xx (codename Clarkdale) a desktop version of the Arrandale. As far as the 2500k, 2600k, etc. that he's talking about here I'm accurate.
Ok noobs listen up. i3 is dual core and hyperthreading. i5 dual core chips have hyperthreading (4m, 6xx). i5 quad core chips have no hyperthreading (7xx for desktops). i7 chips are all quad core AND have hyper threading. Except for a couple i7 lynnfield chips, which are dual core. THERE! Now quit arguing!
Well it depends on the amount of ghz you have. I just googled that in and went to Intel's website and I was brought to an Intel Core i3 2100 3.1ghz, with 3MB of cache. My laptop right now has a Core i3 370m with 3MB of cache and only 2.40ghz so yes you will be able to play all of those games like mw2, black ops, killing floor, tf2(Definitely tf2) and l4d2. For graphics card I think you should go with ATI, maybe a 5770 with 1gb of ram or higher. Look on newegg for more graphics cards
@AltirisX well in that case i might aswell go for AMD because the amd phenom ii x4 black edition is like 3.7 ghz and is only a bit more expensive o_O ps i'm english
i just bought a acer 5742 i5 (460) mid range i5 4g 500gb for £500 in comet i tryed the intel.com test drive program and it reccomended an i5 for me listening to music, watchin vids, and sufing the net.
I don't understand what you meant: Core-i3 is aimed either for "entry gamers" OR for "heavy gaming"; it can't be aimed for both.
In my opinion, Core i3 is not for "heavy gaming" -- read "Enthusiastic Gaming" -- just because it will bottleneck an high-end GPU card like GTX580 or GTX480, like HD5970 or HD6970; and will bottleneck mid- range CrossfireX or mid- rande SLi configs. For "Enthusiastic Gaming" without bottlenecking, go either to Core i7 skt. 1366 or AMD Phenom X6.
@PcCoolado This is the way i see it if you go gaming or hardcore gaming go for AMD Phenom II, for everyday web or anything else crappy intel is the way to go, WHY Intel gaming processors which are i7 will run your wallet dry while AMD Phenom II processors are cheaper and more upgradeability they all use AM3 AM2+ sockets so you can upgrade while intel you always have to change MOBOs to upgrade!!
@shamar20000 Yes, but it is not an i5, in the true sense. That was a marketing move. It is still a dual core HT. The only quad core with HT is i7. I don't think your example deserves to be called i5. It's an i3.

HT works by duplicating the registers on the chip so that an operating system can see duplicate logical CPUs. Each logical CPU literally stores the information physically in a different location but they can only use certain ALU functions in series. Also, it may be the case that one thread stalls because it can't find information in the cache, is missing a dependency from another thread's (or even processes's) computation, or from other architectural feats.

A very simple way of putting it is, the only processors in the i3,i5 and i7 family that do not support HT are the quad core i5's.
Yep thats much easier. haha
uutttg 3 months ago
..cont. The Sandy Bridge has a dual core and a quad core variant of the i5 and the dual core does support HT while the quad core does not.
i7 has four core types, Bloomfield, Sandy Bridge, Gulftown and Lynnfield. The Gulftown is a six core the rest are 4 core. They all support HT.
Got all that? :P
uutttg 3 months ago 2

Even as few as 10% speed gain in raw processing power give you an extra day for rendering animations or allowing additional changes according to customer wishes or can make the difference between meeting a deadline or not. ;)

i3 laptop cpu 2 core 4 threads (hyperthreading)
i5 laptop cpu 2 core 4 threads turbo boost
i7 laptop cpu avaiable with 2 core 4 threads and 4 core and 8 threads
Desktop i3 HT 2 core 4 threads
desktop i5 has 32nm 2 core 4 thread as well as the 4 core 4 threads option
desktop i7 has both 45nm and 32nm and obviously has 4 cores 8 threads but new sandy bridge e and i7 980x 990x has 6 core 12 threads. 8c 16t soon.
This is off the top of my head. You can check but I am 90% sure its right.
Nissangtr786 5 months ago
You can have all the high speed you want... for games it doesn't really matters, 4 high speed cores do the job just fine for any hardcore gamer. This Intel-fanboy thing is just throwing money away

Wow. The 2 most liked comments are both wrong.
i3- HAS HyperThreading. that's why he said (2) physical cores, 4 virtual cores.
i5- has NO HyperThreading that's why he said 4 physical cores
i7- HAS HyperThreading. 4 physical cores, 8 virtual cores.
If you're on the market for a new machine, you'd better do more research than what you read on some comment on Youtube.

RetroTaco 6 months ago
@RetroTaco

@simranjeet36
PcCoolado 1 year ago
@PcCoolado This is the way i see it if you go gaming or hardcore gaming go for AMD Phenom II, for everyday web or anything else crappy intel is the way to go, WHY Intel gaming processors which are i7 will run your wallet dry while AMD Phenom II processors are cheaper and more upgradeability they all use AM3 AM2+ sockets so you can upgrade while intel you always have to change MOBOs to upgrade!!
