  • wow so when a fleet is in movement they lay down these sono floating probes all the way to their destination? I'm assuming theres a small ship behind the fleet whos mission is to pickup the probes that arn't used anymore???

  • @Mendelevium146 Russian trawlers use to try and pick them up all the time. When they are done with a buoy it is scuttled (It sinks to the sea floor and self destructs). In a war time situation any ship stopping to retrieve a buoy would be a target since the CSG's best defense is to stay fast and minimize the area where the submarine can make a torpedo attack from -this is called the limiting lines of approach.

  • @TLAMStrike wow so all the buoy autodestroy when the cargo doesnt need them anymore. Do you know if say, the USN, does that in peace time every time they are traveling?

I red that few years ago a Chinese sub surfaced in the middle of a US CSG and they commanders were just stunned it didnt get detected

  • I wasn't going to spend the 20 bucks, but this is awesome. I think I'm gonna get the DVD.
