Apple butter is a highly concentrated form of apple sauce, produced by long, slow cooking of apples with cider or water to a point where the sugar in the apples caramelizes, turning the apple butter a deep brown.
Dandelion45, thank you. It sounds delicious, and I've often seen it in books on macrobiotic cooking by Michio Kushi, but never with a recipe. We don't have any smuckers in the UK, so I will try to make some but if you know of a recipe, that would be great. Thanks again :)
Actually, I would not suggest using Smuckers brand it contains High Fructose Corn Syrup, I use A&J, it contains no added sweeteners and is the best tasting. I order it my local health food store. I also have found a sweet patato butter I use to sweeten my pumpkin pie, however that is much harder to find.
100% pure maple syrup. Note: American bread pudding is much thicker than European bread pudding, so if it doesn't fit your needs add about a quarter cup of soya milk, use extra silken tofu, or switch to almond or hazelnut milk.
Thank you for the information. We don't have smuckers either in the UK, whatever they are. We have snickers. I have never made apple butter and it sounds very difficult. It gets mentioned a lot in macrobiotic cooking but they never include a recipe

Please can you explain what apple butter is, and how it's made? We don't have it in England.

Fantastic. Definitely something for the wife to make for us when we're at home.
