This is irrelevant, just because you have Christians that disobey god and do what they feel like doing to get people to come to christ, does not take away from the fact that there is real christians who go by what Jesus said, which is to love your enemy. Even if almost every christian tries to kill atheist, God will always keep a small amount of people who stand up and say that's wrong. God knows who he has chosen. This video is irrelevant to the faith of Jesus christ.
@chirectomy They are not, you can still see many of these devices in the tower of london and other castles cross england and tbh we were tame compared to european medieval torture.Only british monarchy used this as a pretense to kill off influential catholics and atheists with inherited land they wanted to steal. When the catholic church had the same reason as they were fighting to rid the world of orthodoxy which is truer to the new testament then catholoism(before protestants)
@chirectomy Google it, go into a library look up that well documented period of history. The puritans too didnt learn from catholic european hatred. Im wondering why you deny the history of christianity?
Actually, as long as they survived, these are very good methods. You break down the spirit and then you can build it up the way you want it to be. Such methods are still in use. Of course, it's rather twisted, but effective.
And I'm pretty sure every human being with half a brain would agree as well.
I just don't see exactly, what about those story would make you laugh.
Ok, you've proofen that throughout the history of mankinde people have done horrible things to other people in the name of a believe that you don't agree with... But no matter from wich point of view I look at those things... I simply can't laugh about it... no matter who made it in anybodys name...
@freakystyley4000 when i first started writing research papers, my teachers all told me NEVER to use wikipedia. if you want reliable information, go somewhere else
@avalsonline2 - fair enough. NO ONE is going to stand up and say that Wikipedia is a faultless source of information (shit, whenever I look up something on there some lame arsehole has added "Clint's mum is a slut" to an entry on the mating habits of lesser moles)
@avalsonline2 My high school teachers always told me the same thing. My university teachers want me to use wikipedia before asking them (to save them time) when I have to write an essay. Can't use it as a source though, but since wikipedia also contains references those can be used. Wikipedia is generally reliable as a starting point, after which you can check out the more specialised information provided by scientific papers and stuff.
Not all Christians did those things. You were historically incorrect when you said: up until the Reformation all Christians were Roman Catholic. In the East there were Orthodox Christians. The Orthodox Christian Church does not punish people for heresy, and nobody is ever permanently out of the church and can't come back. This is the original Christian way, from which the Roman Catholics and Protestants deviated.
@ignati123 Well stated. Thank you for mentioning the Eastern Orthodox Church, the same Church that suffered more martyrdom in the 20th century than the whole of the history of Christianity.
It's a shame that so little is known about the East. Unfortunately, our atheist brothers have axes to grind, and that's ok; I don't understand why would anyone spend so much time trying to disprove something they don't believe in anyway.
@ponyboy1488 Because the followers of most religions try to change the world into what they think is best, by any means.
So, it comes to the rational people, moderately religious, atheists and so on, to stop them, reverse their damage and make sure they don't try it again.
@Kretain You have just rendered your own argument useless. I can see that unfortunately, your responses are so filled with malice and foul language, it is no better than the same believers you scorn so much.
But that's ok. You can believe what you wish, however, you're information is in error, as well as your spelling.
@ponyboy1488 Actually no I havn't, you see, even if the people that where trying to inforce change on others against their will were atheist, I would STILL oppose them, just because you think a god gave you the right to do things, it doesn't mean that you actually DO have that right.
Oh ye, I chuckled when you complained about my spelling when you don't understand the difference between you're and your :D
@Kretain Try again. You're presupposing things I never stated. I never stated what I believed in nor what I think God gave me. You make the mistake of acting as if you are God, perpetuating your own fears on others. Clearly, you're operating on emotion; you're trying to fight a losing battle that no one has waged against you. You might as well beat yourself up in your own closet.
Again, your spelling is incorrect. I'm sorry, but you clearly can't communicate efficiently. I wish you well!
@ponyboy1488 Oh bite me, just because you don't understand my arguements or comprehend a discussion, it doesn't give you any right to dismiss me.
Oh! I see your english is comming along quite nicely, have you figured out the difference between you're and your? or are you just 'winging' it, getting a few hits now and again?
I think my "favorite" horror of the holy seat is the genocide of the Cathars in the medieval Inquisition and the Albigensian Crusade. A total genocide with up to one million dead over the 100 years it when on until they had killed every single man, woman and child of that branch of Christianity. Some was given the "choice" to convert and had to were a yellow cross on their cloths for the rest of their lives as a mark of shame and discrimination, along with several other punishments.
There were far more than three Inquisitions. The Italian, the American, the Indian and several others. It went on about until Napoleon stopped it, so it is closer to 800 years.
This is irrelevant, just because you have Christians that disobey god and do what they feel like doing to get people to come to christ, does not take away from the fact that there is real christians who go by what Jesus said, which is to love your enemy. Everyone who says "What's the harm in believing in supernatural things, even if they're not true?" should have to see this in school - twice a year.
ndrthrdr1 5 months ago 2
Most of this is made up by...
A: Enlightenment propagandists trying to push THEIR gods (as hinted toward the end).
B: 19th-century folk historians catering to a prurient element.
The Inquisition is a sorry chapter in history, but these elaborate tortures are the Romantic equivalent of aliens building the pyramids.
And I'm not sure where they get 70,000 - wasn't it 3,000?

I would be quick to accept Jesus in these situations.. Fuck being tortured over it. They can control my words, not my thoughts.

@RSVJosephV Russell says "in the early 16th century", not in the early 1600's, and "1553" not 1533.

OMFG. I should repent right now!!!!!
That was sarcasm by the way.
And the F is for Fictional.
85% of people believe in god.
100% of them have no idea why.

@Kretain Oh I see, and that would also account for millions of dead under the reign of communism, which was completely atheist in it's ideology?
ponyboy1488 1 year ago
@ponyboy1488 Oh for fucks sake, I'm so sick of that arguement popping up every fucking time I have a conversation with a christfag -.-
1. Wich reign are you talking about exacly? If it's Russia, keep readin, otherwise, go away.
2. The deeds wheren't done BECAUSE of atheism, the lack of belief in a god had NOTHING to do with him going apeshit.
3. Stalin made himself into a new diety, same with Kim Jong Il.Wich they then used to swing their power around.
4. I was answering your question-.-
