Um, In my entry (Airship Theme) I used Cat's soundset, but it wasn't intentionally made for this. Could you still judge it and like, maybe deduct penalty points? Much Apreciated!

I wish I could; it really is a pretty theme. Unfortunately, the soundset rule must stand for fairness and equality's sake. Sorry. :(

Perhaps you could change the instruments and upload the piece in an acceptable soundset? That would be really great.

It looks like the more songs you make the better your outcome is to win the contest in my opinion.

Not necessarily. In this contest, quality > quantity. That's why I'm willing to allow multiple entries; more is unrelated to better.

It is arguable that those with multiple entries are more likely to have one that is successful. It is also arguable that producing more videos actually lessens your odds because you create competition with yourself. However, it is incontrovertible that a piece achieves success due to quality.

The real reason I encourage multiple entries is, simply, to encourage submissions. In my opinion, original compositions bring out the best in people; everything is created from scratch. Creativity abounds in truly original pieces.

That's why I like this contest. It offers an opportunity for these pieces to gain notice that otherwise is difficult to obtain. I see no reason to limit the amount of pieces that can benefit from this; my view is quite contrary: The more, the better.

I just looked at the description and noticed that I set the deadline for the wrong date. November 11th allows for two weeks time, not the three weeks which I promised in the video. My mistake. :( I can't believe it wasn't caught until now.

So I'm moving the deadline to where it should have been the entire time, November 18th (10 days from now). Hopefully, this will give those who still wish to enter the proper amount of time to complete their pieces. Sorry about that; I feel so embarrassed.

It's actually from a soundtrack known as The Legend of Zelda: Sound and Drama, released some time after A Link to the Past. The first disc has synthesized orchestral arrangements such as what you heard, and the second has the original sounds of The Legend of Zelda and A Link to the Past.

I'm not sure exactly where I got this soundtrack, but I'm sure you can find it if you Google its name. ^_^;

Base mario paint sounds only?

The reason for base sounds only is to provide some sort of evenness for contest submissions. Because people use the same types of sounds - the ones that were designed for the Composer program - this allows more focus to be brought on quality and creativity, which are the main purposes of the contest.

It is not that I don't like alternative sounds; on the contrary, I've used cat333pokemon's MP Real on several occasions. The rule exists for equality's sake instead.

Sorry about that. :( The reason you can't use those four instruments in Mario Paint Plus is because they're not at all based on the original sounds.

You're absolutely right; I did not make this clear in the pre-video to this contest, though I did state base sounds only. For that, I offer my sincerest apologies.

Also, to clarify: If you are using the default soundfont for Mario Paint 2.0, you CAN use Shy Guys, Coins, Boos, and Piranhas. Plus is the only soundfont for which you can't.
