so i must say, great of you man.

Personally i work at a supermarket, and usually ask elder people if they need help finding, gathering or carrying their goods. just like a little extra Customer Service to those who need it :)

Hey Jay,

About 5 years ago I converted my garage into a fully functioning wood shop where I make small pieces of furniture, candle holders, and end tables out of wine barrels. I also make custom pieces too. It's hard work, but very rewarding.

My neighbor Charlie who lives across the street is an elderly man, around 80years old. He has been having a hard time getting around these last few years.

But, without fail, every time I am out in the garage working on a table or anything, he always walks

1 way to do nice things is through your childs school. When the school requests funds for a field trip, a shirt, or any of many things they need financial help for, I always write a note, & ask to anonymously help a child whose parents can't afford it. It teaches my boy the joy of giving of oneself while not looking for any recognition or anything in return. This past Christmas he made me so proud when for toys for tots he said "Dad, we need to buy 2...one for a boy, and one for a girl."

Good idea! Does doing something good for your inlaws, who are so old and handicapped that they can't do for themselves...count? My father-in-law is 92 and there's "fix up" projects he can't do that I could do for him....just wonderin'

I think that the people who enter this contest will find out that the biggest "prize" will be how they feel from helping others. It can be much more than a good feeling and it can also bring sadness, empathy, frustration, and understanding in a good way. Last year my wife & I took in a seven year old from a broken family. Last summer and into the fall me and this little girl delivered fresh produce to elderly shut-ins. It was a great experience for everyone... Not entering contest. Thanks, Jay.

@deepseaclimber Yep I think you are totally right. And good on ya for the great things you've done. I'm part of the local lions club and we do fruit baskets at xmas. It's humbling to see the tears in peoples eyes when you bring them something as simple as some fruit and cookies.
