@riverstrat Because it's seriously fucking hard to hit those notes! he could do it in the 80s but not a chance he could do it these days, not without damaging his voice.
@EricSnowmane Man, you really are retarded if you can't hear the original vocal track here. Yes they are all singing along with it, but you can't get a sound as 'big' as that without a bit of help.
@bobsterfish And forgive me, but I *still* can't distinguish playback. Maybe they do, maybe they don't. I don't really care. And when you have 3 people doing the chorus, that sounds like a reasonable volume.
From my memory, I don't recall the backing track being played on the original live broadcast. I think this has been added in afterwards. That's a shame because live music should be live, it should'nt sound perfect. From what I remember it sounded good the way it was originally recorded.
Okay okay, we all know Dave used to sing the chorus and help out Jon after 86' when he lost his voice. Also, Richie helps alot. But they are ofcourse using a backingtrack ( exact version from studio ) in the end. If you can't hear it and think Dave or Richie is dishing it out you're retarded.
Yes, Jon is singing but the chorus is CLEARLY a backing track. It's Ok though. Lots of bands will have a backing track for certain songs when doing them live. It's common practice though I will say it's used quite a bit on this song, almost excessively. Jon can still sing quite well though.
@DomJovi1996 your incredibly naive if you think there isn't a backing track here, are you saying that the bassist hugh (who is the only one singing at 4:00) is able to exactly mimick jons studio voice from the 80s as well as the other overdubbed studio tracks and harmonies to create that big effect.. Jesus Christ its fucking obvious!!!
@DomJovi1996 Are you joking? Nothing like the recorded? it's exactly the same!! are you deaf??? besides, i can definately hear more vocal tracks than people singing on this performance.
Another tell tale sign of chorus playback: There is a very high vocal harmony in high parts of the chorus present on the original studio version. But they NEVER sing this live. Yet you can hear it here. Sorry but anyone who thinks there isn't a backing track of some sort here, is an idiot.
There is definately the original vocal tracks being played in all the "whoaa living on a prayer" bits. But to be honest they were probably added in afterwards when the dvd was made, it would be really difficult to add them in live, because the band would have to play perfectly in time to a click track throughout the song. Also the playback seems really loud here, probably because it wasn't a Bon Jovi DVD, it was lots of artists. The guy probably didn't know what they normally do.
Ok, to be honest 3:38 sounds playbacked...really...And I'm a big fan, so it's no hate comment...Please tell me your oppinion about it...No trolls or I won't reply. Thanks. :-)
the crowd is just in shock at how awesome they are, even in the year 2005. ;p they're not there to rock out necessarily, they're there to witness legends.
OK, this is coming from someone who has worked at studios and live events. What's happening here is not lip-syncing. All of them on stage are indeed singing. However, there are additional vocal tracks (loops) on the chorus (which sound exactly like the original vocal track, except half-step lower) which help make it sound bigger live. As somneone mentioned already, for some reason, they are much louder on this recording than anywhere else, probably because it's not their own concert/DVD.
There is definitely playback, but the guys are singing over it for the most part. So it's not lip syncing. The track's just there to help out. Though here it's WAAAAY louder than it usually is.
@josedies07 you can tell at 3:53 especially because that is Jons voice singing from the original track but Jon's lips aren't moving. So unless he learned ventriloquism, its playback.
You can hear it quite clearly too, the higher vocals in the chorus are all the time excactly the same as on the original track, and it is impossible to sing it excactly like on the track, apart from the fact that his lips are indeed not moving
@MARIOFREAK821.... nah the refrain is playback. At least the parts Jon can't sing. Still a great version, but part of the refrain is playback. If you listen to the original track you can hear it. Especially the last refrain.
In a period where Jon's live voice was quite whiny (the Have A Nice Day tour) this is surprisingly good. That being said, his voice is AMAZING now in 2011, I don't know how he did it but damn what a comeback.

@trailerparkboys1996 well I'm almost sure that the term "FAGS" as you put it is spelled with all lower case letters and has an apostrophe like so fag's but I'm sure with being a "trailer park boy" you never learned proper spelling.
@femoman i thought, but if you listen to the chorus, then the original track, they are very similar as performing live it should sound different.but i believe you..............keep the faith

lol bon jovi is for FAGS.
trailerparkboys1996 1 year ago
@trailerparkboys1996 well I'm almost sure that the term "FAGS" as you put it is spelled with all lower case letters and has an apostrophe like so fag's but I'm sure with being a "trailer park boy" you never learned proper spelling.
