This video should be edited or removed. The process for setting up the QT + Nokia SDK is much simpler now. There is no need to download QT Creator, QT SDK and Nokia Symbian SDK separately. It's all available in one package foound here
The first link of the downloads isn't pointing to the right url anymore, nothing to be alarmed but it will be nice to fix the link so everything will be like in the video :D
I gave up on a5.6.1 cos there was no where I could download it. Ive spent the whole day searching for it and is frustrating. I wonder why everything is tied to a version of activeperl which has been removed from activestate website. Am hoping 5.8.9 build 827 will work
ACTIVE STATE REMOVED THE "VERSION 5.6.1 build 635" OF PERL FROM THIS PLANET. YOU CANNOT FIND IT ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. AND THE LATEST VERSION IS GIVING ERRORS WHILE THE DEPLOYMENT.
Thank you very much for mentioning the fact that there will be issues with the sdk on vista/windows 7... After installing i find a patch folder with a seriously BAD readme file.. I mean what is env.bat and where should i put it? What exactly is a "application group folder" Should i include this file everytime i want to compile an app or what are you talking about here?
it's a shame that nokia can't provide a one single file download with all the required files in a single installation. Nokia does not have developers, nokia has fans (only nokia fans like me spend time learning all this steps).
@QtStudios Question regarding symbian^3 and USB otg input feature.
I'm interested in how hard would it be to build a paint app with usb tablet pressure sensitivity. They've done it on Maemo i'm interested if S^3 and QT is capable of it. S^3 natively supports tablets but i'm not sure about the pressure points.
Good move ActiveState! Time for the lazy Nokia folks to update their scripts, better to remove all Perl dependencies. Otherwise it's too horrible to develop QT on Symbian and developers will eventually move to Android (easy Java) or iPhone (consistant Objective C)
It's really a shame for Nokia, which cannot provide a single SDK for Symbian QT 2 years after the acquisition of Trolltech. From my point of view what you need are QT headers plus an ARM compiler. How can Nokia make it so complicated?
It seems that Active State has removed Perl 5.6 completely from their site, so that version is no longer available in any build. Have anybody out there has any luck with a more rencent version of Perl or are the developer community waiting for Nokia to get their SDK's updated?
Is the listed Active Perl version the only one that is supposed to work? I already have installed 5.8.8. build 882. Should I remove it and get the one listed here in order for this to work?
5.6.1.635 will work for sure, and has been tested. It is known that if you have a different Perl version, the build of complex projects may break for obscure reasons.
You can first try with 5.8.8, and if you have build issues with your Qt for Symbian project, we recommend replacing the 5.8.8 version with the 5.6.1. Replacing can also mean just changing the PATH environment variable accordingly during S60 builds.
I have Norton Internet Security 2010 and i've set the Heuristic Protection to Aggressive(Maximum) and when I tried to install Carbide.C++ v2.3; Sonar blocked it and deleted, he said this is a virus and after a while asked me to restart the computer to solve a serious virus :)
Thanks for such detailed procedure! The only real issue i'm having now is to finish the download of all the files >_> .... around 1,5Gb of files... i think after install everything my hardrive will have be short in free space...
I was searching for that ~1.5 years ago and I did not found out how to make Carbide.C++ to work for my Symbian S60v3, bad, I left that idea because of that :(. Now I make applications for PC with C Builder and very simple applications for my mobile with Python. To late for me to go back on that idea :(.
@aliancemd I had exacly the same problem... and went for Python as well... with S60v5 i'm trying again just because i love Qt concept.... that with some luck PySide will allow to be used in Python ;p
by creating this video you have cleared one of my biggest hurdle in writing app for any platform. Thank you. Please create more for symbian examples. I mean like simple but some real world example that would serve as jump start for new comers. Thanks again!
What Can I do?.........
When I'm Installing Some Symbian Software
It Says "Component QT Missing"
Would I Need TO Install On PC then In My Phone?
Is There Any Setup Directly In My Phone To Inistall QT 4.7, Qt Webkit or Other QT aaps ?

What about ActivePerl 5.12.x? Can we use it instead of 5.8.x?
And why do we need CarbideC++?
