  • Bardzo mile wspominam to spotkanie. Dowiedzialem sie naprawde duzo ciekawych rzeczy. W tym miejscu pozwole sobie rowniez polecic ksiazke Pana Tadeusza Rolskiego pt - "Uwaga wszystkie samoloty!", ktora wlasnie koncze czytac. Naprawde warto!

Zapewne kazdy pamieta serial "Miodowe lata" - i grajacego tam aktora - Marek Barbasiewicz - ktory gral postać Dr. Marszałka. Pan Barbasiewicz szybko zorientowal sie z jakiej szkoly jade i zaraz zywo zaczelismy rozmawiac o lotnictwie. Jak sie okazalo, krewnym Pana Marka byl wlasnie Tadeusz Rolski!!!

  • @SuprimaFalcon Oczywiscie chodizło mi o postać dyrektora Marszałka, a nie doktora :)

  • @SuprimaFalcon Thanks!

  • And the legend goes on..

  • that paint scheme is from a mark V (5) spitfire from 1941-1942 the mark two had the same paint scheme as the mark 1 spit just it came with cannon and it was not very good as the cannon always jammed. NIce model though. :)

  • @KO19966 Some Mk IIs had the Green/Grey cammo, also some Mk Vs had the Green/Brown cammo. It all depends on what part of 1941 they flew in as it was about June/July 1941 when the RAF changed the cammo

  • Hope to get a Spitfire Mk.IIa done this month.. had I not been building my two Revell Mk.Vb's at the moment, I would have used the guns and blkisters from one of those kits and made a Mk.IIb instead.. but I will get another Revell kit, for spares use only.. and another NEW Airfix Mk.Ia.. and that should hopefully do the trick.. :)

  • @BasicModelling Addiction is a terrible thing :)

  • @GerbilEssences I know.. I hope to get a total of 6 Spits done before March.. but next month should only see 2 models done, a B-24 Liberator and a B-17 Flying Fortress.. Then I'll probably do a Luftwaffe month.. or something.. :)

  • @BasicModelling I have a liking for big bombers. Perhaps you could do size comparison of UK and USAAF bombers?

  • @GerbilEssences I can do.. once I have built a proper Lancaster.. :) :) Have just been up in the loft and got my old Revell Spitfire Mk.I / II kit from 1976.. It comes with decals for an early Mk.I with the 2-balded prop, and also with decals for a couple of Mk.IIa's.. all very useful for converting a couple of Airfix Mk,Ia kits.. The Revell kit itself is pretty useless, but the 2-blade prop, and the decals are good enough to use.. I just hope they won't disintegrate when they hit the water.. :)

  • @BasicModelling I'm looking forward to the 2-blade prop mk.1 - A very elegant model :) I wouldn't hold your breath for the decals though :S

My I-16 has wings, I think about 75% complete.

  • @GerbilEssences We'll see... :) If not I'll get some after market stuff!! :) You'll have to pour a can of Red Bull over the I-16... :)

  • @BasicModelling Yes to stimulate body and mind, I need it.

  • @GerbilEssences I was thinking more of giving the 1-16 wings... :)

  • complimenti

  • Thanks

  • Delightful model.

  • Thanks! (new channel )

  • yeh well i guess the americans didnt need the cannon any seeing as they already had the .50, it was doin the job and it was doin it very well...

  • i stand corrected then, i always thought the V was the first to be armed with hispano canons

  • I find it odd that the fighter kept 4 .303 Machine guns when an upgrade to .50cal would have made it much more potent. Perhaps the USA wasn't selling us any.

  • well remember they didnt want to give too much arms to us at the beginning of the war, seeing as FDR was wanting to win the next election, didnt want to get his fingers dirty, plus with the airframe of the spit dont think they would be able to carry 8 of them, could possibly carry 6, but will loose a bit of it maneuvrability i guess

  • Yeah, even more odd is that USAAF and USNAF fighters all used 50 cals and no cannons (apart from the lighting I think). Still they must have done the job.

  • the spitfire in the vid Is a mk V, not a mk IIb....just to be picky

  • How can you tell? They are practically externally identical. I used the decal scheme of an actual Mk.IIb for this model.

  • well the cannons are the dead give away really, seeing as the first Spitfires they were installed on was the mk Vb.

  • Look up spitfire variants on wikipedia - The first to have cannons was the Mk.1b, the first mass produced model with cannons was the Mk.IIb.

  • GREAT JOB but just a tip that would probly look a bit cleaner with an airbrush

  • Thanks my good man, I do now have an airbrush but need to buy all the right colours of acrylics to paint anything!

  • how do u paint airfix models

  • Just with a brush and enamel paint. I do have an airbrush but it doesn't work right now :(

  • very nice :)

  • Thanks ;)

  • Im in the middle of building a spitfire mk 1a at the moment

  • Oh, nice (is it airfix AKA 'the Best?')

I'm doing a PZL 11.c right now, but it's taking a long time to scratch build many details on an old kit ;)

    - see the "This is a video response to..." link.

  • yes its an airfix

  • And other nice video :)

  • T.Hanks!

  • Brilliant model, especially considering that you created a custom kit for various model kits. Enjoyed the whole presentation!

  • Gdansk very much!

  • No, they were natives of Malta and so am I; but I decided to follow my fathers footsteps and go to sdea so I joined the Royal navy as a boy at 15 years of age.

  • Ah I see, when did you move here?

  • Now my second comment don't show.. aaarrrggh.. :P

  • didn't it?

  • Nope, well and truly gone.. sigh.. :P Perhaps I didn't click the 'Post Comment', even though I'm sure I did.. :) Ah, so how did you make the decal then?? Sure looks professional enough to me.. :)

  • I didn't make it ;) I just picked the wrong/or modern pic from wikipedia.

Talking of, have you ever read/watched the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy? Wikipedia is pretty much the real world equivalent ;P

  • Yes, well.. it's the decal on the model that's wrong, not the picture you chose.. that is fine, I think! The person who designed and printed the decals obviously picked the wrong insignia version by mistake, when making the decals.. an easy mistake to make, no doubt.. as they're very hard to tell part if you're not careful.. :) I just noticed the difference between the two, and I don't know why, as that sort of thing don't normally 'bothers' me.. :)

  • Ok, I guess you're right on this count ;P.

  • Well, judging by the photo in the link, the DECALS ARE RIGHT.. so everything is as it should be on all accounts... I just wonder why he chose to paint it that way round?? :)

  • Beats me!

  • I guess he's no longer around to ask.. By the way, I haven't forgotten your request for a canopy, but I haven't had time to look for the kit, let alone post anything in the mail.. Was hoping to start later tonight, and get some painting done on the Lanmc, butalas.. they wanted me in early again!! I'm getting modelling withdrawals now.. :(

  • Oh don't worry about the canopy for now, I'm adding it last. There was a bomb scare in cov today, unexploded from WWII.

    Thanks.

  • Dave.. Yes, there's probably a few dotted about the place still.. :p Canopy will come after the weekend, I hope.. :)

  • Check the link in the video description ;p

If I had seen that photo back when I made this, there might be a lot more detailing involved...

  • I'll check the link.. :)

  • Great video, beautiful model.. Something puzzles me though, with the decals.. Do you have the sheet left?? I just wonder when it was printed.. I have an issue with the small Polish Insignia, as shown on 02:13.. It's different from 02:11, and I wonder if the decalmakers have made a boo-boo.. The decal on the Spit shows the modern version, they reversed the colours in 1993, and the one shown on the Spit is as it should be AFTER 1993..

  • Gdansk ;)

I picked a random polish insignia from wikipedia (there were two available facing different ways). It was probably me who picked the wrong one.

  • Nothing has and as a result of the 'evolution' of aeronautical technology, nothing ever will come close to matching the grace and beauty of the Spit', especially if there's a RR Merlin under the hood! Sweetest sound not made by Mother Nature!

The one thing I could never understand about military colour schemes was, why go to all the bother of painting them camouflage and then stick a whole set of ruddy great targets all over them. They may as well have written 'Shoot Here' as well! ;)

  • I know what you mean! However such was the frequency of people shooting down the wrong planes, confusing british/german/russian, they really had to put big stickers on them showing which team they were on ;P

  • Mmm, yes nothing quite has the same beauty since the beggining of the jet age. I might do a Scottish plane at some point if I find the time (maybe even a Scottish ace if I can get the decals for it).

I better go and do some work, after all they are paying me ;D

  • When I was young, I actually saw the Spitfires in real battle over Malta. The Island owes their lives to them and their pilots.

  • WOW, were you in the RAF or something? I gather they were the Mk.Vs. They launched a lot (hundreds) from a US carrier in the Mediterranean to land at Malta and boost the airforce on the Island. Up until then they only had a handful of Hurricanes.

I think during the Battle of Britain the RAF on Malta only had Gloster biplanes, as it was second priority to defending the UK, but perhaps you know more of the story than i do ;)

  • No I was not in the RAF, I was a tiny tot of 3 during the war. When grown up, I was in the RN.

The only had 3 string bags at the beginning of war, Spitfires, not all reacehd Malta from Gibralter. Yes I know about the history, I am a vertified historian for all that is worth.

  • I shouldn't have lectured you on that one then ;) Do you enjoy all history or is it mainly 20th century?

Were your parents native to malta or just living there? Thats quite an impressive childhood memory, as good as flydarlings plane crash memory (see video).

  • Take Care
