Wow those vocals sound good. It's hard to keep that sound after all these years. Sometimes the tempo is speeded up to get the crowd going at the end of a song and to take it into another song. Or, they might "break it down" old school style from way back. It's ok to do that live. That's the sound of a "live" band and we're used to hearing it just like the record. They can also "take it to the bridge" or stretch it out or cut it short. That's the band leader's job. Memories...

These groups could have easily came in and gave some lackluster performance, collected their checks and went home, but it's clear they put 100% into the preparation and it shows. From what I can work out, on a keyboard in the key of C, the last cord before it comes home to the key-chord is, from bass up, G, F, B, E flat.
Then the tonic chord is modified to:-
C, G, E, B flat, D.
Then all up a semi-tone i.e.:-

When this song came out in 1977, I was at The Jazz Festival in San Diego Stadium, During the break between groups, they played on the concert speakers Best of my love, The Emotions were not even at the concert, when the LA & San Diego crowd heard this new song they stood up and went wild stomping their feet dancing, it was the first time in my life and only time I seen a concert get turned out by a group that wasn't even there...Emotions you are the Best of my love....The R&B Beast....

Man '77 must have been the best year to strike music! The Floaters had "Float On", Marvin Gaye had "Got To Give It Up", Stevie Wonder had "I Wish" and These beautiful Ladies had the best song thay year (In my opinion) "Best Of My Love"! I Wish I was born then!

Not just 1977 from 1972-1977 R&B music was definitely off the charts with some of thee Greatest R&B hits of all time, from Blue Magic (Side Show) to the Commodores (Easy) and Emotions (Best of my love) and hundreds of others...I was a teenager during them times, The songs were like the sound track of your life,Times I wouldn't trade for anything...Not taking anything away from the 60's late 70's and Early 80's all of those years had Brilliant written and Arranged songs too.....
