I first heard this on the Q4A bus around Farmers BLVD. This dude got on the bus with a boom box. He didn't have the volume too loud so the bus driver wouldn't trip.
this was the 1st "rap" i ever heard! i was around 5 or 6 & got it on tape. we used to rap along with it in the back of my aunt's station wagon on the way to the roller rink!! classic!!!
Yo this is NICE. Old "high" School times for ME....LOL. Anyway, do you have the song called Mistro from the 70s. Words are: I say now everybody, around the nation I'm gonna give you some inspiration, cause I have to fulfull my obligation, to send you on a little vacation........"" I can't remember it exactly but I remember I LOVED THIS SONG. If you don't have it, can you tell me the recording artist.... THANX and Merry Christmas.
Hey bro...if U got old records...do U have "To Be With You" by Jimmy Spicer on Salsa Records in '76??? He had to B singin' on this joint...that's my daughter's cousin...she's 8 years old, 'n start'n to learn she has a li'l stardom in her bloodline. Sarah Vaughn is also a direct bloodline to her...
This was old. I was in 3d grade and BEGGED my father to take me to TSS in hempstead,NY and this was the very 1st record I ever got. Still have it. That was like 1978.
I'm glad he didn't throw this record away! I used to play this for my entire block of North Castle Street in Baltimore! It was 1983! What a memory!!!
I grew up on Long Island went to Malverne High, back in the day many of us were not allowed to listen to rap. I use to hide in my room at night under the covers with one of those little single white ear pieces plugged into my radio which was hidden under my bed. This use to be my favorite jam lol I can laugh now but when my racist parents found the lyrics written in a note book I got the s@#T beat out of me. Thank the lord times have changed! AMEN. MY GRANDBABY CAN SCRATCH AND DANCE.
This brings back so many memories. I remember when I was 12 yrs. old, going to Disco Brown's record shop every week to find out if he had any new rap albums. This was the third album in my collection. I already bought 'The Breaks' and Sugarhill Gang's 'Eigth Wonder of the World'....I played Super Rhyme every day for over a month...
It's summer 1980. I'm 10 years old. At summer camp. A YMCA camp that seemed to pul kids from BK, to Jamaica, Queeens, to my hood in the Boogie Down. The "color war" singoff. This song's a rap classic. I recently bought this record off of eBay. Well worth the money. Jimmy Spicer was a great rapper. Too bad he didn't make any EPs and doesn't rap anymore.

Used to live on Autumn Ave between Dumont and Linden Blvd. First time I heard this song someone was blaring it from Linden Plaza. Shouts to everyone in Plaza, Cypress and Pink Houses...you know how we do.

I remember coming home on the bus from Orchard Beach in the Bronx, N.Y. There would always be someone in the bus with their loud ass boombox playing this joint. BOUNCE-ROCK-SKATE-ROLL.
port2344chester you have excellent taste in music man! Seems like we like the same music! Yo i remeber when this came out and i couldn't find the album anywhere! Went to a few spots in Bklyn and the Bx. and everyone was out of it. Always thought Jimmy Spicer was a white guy though. I just found out last year that he's black! Doesn't matter though because a lot of white guys (and girls) contributed to the club scene big time!
@0682patrick You just painted an exact picture in my mind. On the bus going home from some function in the Bronx, someone with a boom box sitting in the rear of the bus blasting this song.
AWW shit I remember this jam in Coney Island too, I use to hang out at Polar Express with Papo, Jesus & Panama & the whole crew out there. Brooklyn in da house... CI
I was about 15 when this rap came out and I loved it. I'm 44 now and I can still recite most of the lyrics. I love this rap. I thought it was just as good as rapper's delight and I still think so today.
What's truly amazing is, the clip is from a radio show that is 20 years old, and the song in the clip was "old school" then...think of how much Hip Hop evolved between 1980 and 1990. It slowed down between 90' and 2000...and so on. But that's just the nature of any artform...
Also, Marcus Clemons...wow, that name alone that brings back memories.
Yeah yeah yeah, you're just another fucking idiot who hates white people just because you like rap. I find is disgusting how people are 'forced' into hating white people to be part of the 'rap crowd'
The reason for so much hate on the game today is it isn't about stories, it's about grit, it's try to be hard like Metal and Punk and that just isn't what rap and hip-hop should be.
first of all let's just note that this joint is like twenty minutes long, lol. second of all if you know this song you are a true hip hop head. this is what hip hop should be, clean and fun. it's not about getting chicks in bed and how much bling and bullet shots you have...(no offense 50 cent) lol
@wvcc24hrsJimmy Spicer(AKA Moppy) lived in Flatbush,I knew him,his brother Zorroz,(AKA Zorrow),and his sister Gay.We all hungout in Flatbush-I wanna say between Lennox and Church, and Flatbush and Nostrand.Prior to this cut,Moppy was always handing out fliers to his shows that he DJ'd.He did us proud in Flatbush-and I'm originally from Bed Stuy!I'm also 52 yrs.Old.

port2344chester you have excellent taste in music man!

KPOO for ever!

Actually Rap and hip hop hasn't evolved that much at all. If you look at rock music, it's come all the way from Elvis Presley to Death Metal
ToaJoe 2 years ago
When you talk about Rock please start with Little Richard and all the great black "blues" artist who were rocking when white folks wouldn't touch it.
hakimgreen7 2 years ago
Yeah yeah yeah, you're just another fucking idiot who hates white people just because you like rap. I find is disgusting how people are 'forced' into hating white people to be part of the 'rap crowd'
ToaJoe 2 years ago
Um, maybe not musically, but lyrically. You can't say that Kurtis Blow to Pharohe Monche isn't an evolution. I can quote lyrics if you need me to.

my pops be rockin this shit all the time made me loke this shiz too
jusjus115 2 years ago
The reason for so much hate on the game today is it isn't about stories, it's about grit, it's try to be hard like Metal and Punk and that just isn't what rap and hip-hop should be.

first of all let's just note that this joint is like twenty minutes long, lol. second of all if you know this song you are a true hip hop head. this is what hip hop should be, clean and fun. it's not about getting chicks in bed and how much bling and bullet shots you have...(no offense 50 cent) lol
