  • Shit ain't old school. I bet in a year or two there will be some young groups rapping like this. Mark my words.

  • Jimmy Spicer's First record was in 1976-"to be with you on the Salsa label he is the first D.J. /M.C. to use a cassio Keyboard for his music. Jimmy Spicer is one of the first M.C./D.J. to make a rap record along with King Tim The Third, again he was making records since 1976 4 years earlier than most M.C.'s at the time, Jimmy Spicer was with Pete D.J. Jones, Grandmaster Flowers, and The Plumber These D.J.'s were The Disco Era Mixmaster D.J.'s Moble Dj's around 1968.

  • super rhyme took rap to another level and you had to be a rap conisseur back in 1980 to understand this. There were few rap jams back then. Sugarhill, K Blow, Count Coolout, Super Wolf, Sequence and Grandmaster 5 were the only groups that provided this skill back then.

This use to be my favorite jam lol I can laugh now but when my racist parents found the lyrics written in a note book I got the s@#T beat out of me. Thank the lord times have changed! AMEN. MY GRANDBABY CAN SCRATCH AND DANCE.

  • @lari861 Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll by Vaughan Mason & Crew is where it was sampled from

  • @Simeon16 thank you mayne

  • This brings back so many memories. I remember when I was 12 yrs. old, going to Disco Brown's record shop every week to find out if he had any new rap albums. This was the third album in my collection. I already bought 'The Breaks' and Sugarhill Gang's 'Eigth Wonder of the World'....I played Super Rhyme every day for over a month...

  • It's summer 1980. I'm 10 years old. At summer camp. A YMCA camp that seemed to pul kids from BK, to Jamaica, Queeens, to my hood in the Boogie Down. The "color war" singoff. Out team chose a little jam that our counselors (from upstate) were completely unfamiliar with, called "Super Rhymes." The other teams chose "The Breaks" and "Rappers Delight," figuring the more fimiliar cuts would give them an edge with the judges. By the end, it was no contest. Judges were givin' up the standin O. For us.

  • melle Mel might give him a good run for his money...but Super Rhymes is bad to the bone.

  • ahh summer in the park break dancing battling chilling

  • This is MY sh_ _!

  • I remember coming home on the bus from Orchard Beach in the Bronx, N.Y. There would always be someone in the bus with their loud ass boombox playing this joint. BOUNCE-ROCK-SKATE-ROLL.

  • You know you had to pump the JVC with the one big speaker on it! Now we get Ipods and Mp3's! Miss them boombox days!

  • @justinbig9 yo how did i know you would post a comment on this tune also. Great to see your reppin the old school peace bro!!!!

  • port2344chester you have excellent taste in music man! Seems like we like the same music! Yo i remeber when this came out and i couldn't find the album anywhere! Went to a few spots in Bklyn and the Bx. and everyone was out of it. Always thought Jimmy Spicer was a white guy though. I just found out last year that he's black! Doesn't matter though because a lot of white guys (and girls) contributed to the club scene big time!

  • @0682patrick yes u rite got it good jobs

  • @0682patrick You just painted an exact picture in my mind. On the bus going home from some function in the Bronx, someone with a boom box sitting in the rear of the bus blasting this song.

  • "Listen sucker go take a carpet ride"...LMAO

  • I was about 15 when this rap came out and I loved it. I'm 44 now and I can still recite most of the lyrics. I love this rap. I thought it was just as good as rapper's delight and I still think so today.

  • It was some kind of honor if one could repeat all the words back then! LOL! I dont know what it is now! LOL!

  • cbs productions cloud burst of sound r.i.p "d" and those corny ass negros you swung with just playin you know who you are

my dad always playd dis song n so many otha old skoo songs

so i grew up luvin dis song n listenin ta old skoo

    always

    (:

  • What's truly amazing is, the clip is from a radio show that is 20 years old, and the song in the clip was "old school" then...think of how much Hip Hop evolved between 1980 and 1990. It slowed down between 90' and 2000...and so on. But that's just the nature of any artform...

Also, Marcus Clemons...wow, that name alone that brings back memories.

    KPOO for ever!

  • Actually Rap and hip hop hasn't evolved that much at all. If you look at rock music, it's come all the way from Elvis Presley to Death Metal

  • When you talk about Rock please start with Little Richard and all the great black "blues" artist who were rocking when white folks wouldn't touch it.

  • Yeah yeah yeah, you're just another fucking idiot who hates white people just because you like rap. I find is disgusting how people are 'forced' into hating white people to be part of the 'rap crowd'

  • Um, maybe not musically, but lyrically. You can't say that Kurtis Blow to Pharohe Monche isn't an evolution. I can quote lyrics if you need me to.

  • my pops be rockin this shit all the time made me loke this shiz too

  • The reason for so much hate on the game today is it isn't about stories, it's about grit, it's try to be hard like Metal and Punk and that just isn't what rap and hip-hop should be.

  • just biting off busy bee and sugar hillgang surely?

  • better than rappers delight

  • one for the money.....two for the show!!!!

I guess I'm a true hip hop head cause I have still have two vinyl copies and still play this on vinyl......

memories: roller skating at USA Skates on Roosevelt Avenue, Jackson Heights, Queens!!!!

  • first of all let's just note that this joint is like twenty minutes long, lol. second of all if you know this song you are a true hip hop head. this is what hip hop should be, clean and fun. it's not about getting chicks in bed and how much bling and bullet shots you have...(no offense 50 cent) lol

  • thanks for posting so classic!
