i used a black knight greataxe+5 i killed him in 6 hits

if you get him between the wall to your left and that one pillar he can only hit you with his jumping attack which is easily blockable, and you dont have to cut anything off to get the ring you'll get it no matter what as long as you kill him.

you don't need to cut off his tail BUT you do need to cut off one of his appendages such as his giant arm or tail

you dont need to cut of his tail, you need to cut off his big right centipede arm, at least in the newest patches hope this helps

I just waited for him to come onto the strip of land where I started and then I stayed near his legs with the +5 black knight sword and it was over. I suggest a similar strat because I was not even playing a tanking character.

Something to keep in mind when using that lava ring; while you won't be losing much health to the lava, your armour condition takes a considerable beating. Be sure and keep it well repaired between fire-walks.

yes guys you get the ring too just by beating it, but by cutting off the tail you get the ring during the fight and can actually use it during the fight and make it a lot easier

Mitch! you have to save knight solaire! But you can only do it if you donate 30 humanity to the chaos servant spider lady after que'laag. Then that door you were looking at before the demon firesage boss will open. Those 2 passages, before the door and behind the door there are 9 little mini-bugs that run away from you. You have to kill all of them and the Sunlight Maggot drops, its a helm that you have to put on and talk to knight solaire after the boss otherwise he dies!

I think if you cut off any of his appendages you'll get the ring. Theres no specific one I think anyways. I didnt cut off his tail when I fought him I cut off his arm thing.

This is such a weird boss. Anyone else find it's biped legs odd? Specifically because it could totally be a hyrda-centipede and still get the job done. That and it feels like a Zelda-type boss: existing solely to give you a new item with which to proceed further through the dungeon.

But then again I guess the Capra Demon (key to the depths), Sif (abyss ring), and the Gaping Dragon (key to Blight town) are kind of in that same boat.

You dont have to cut the tail off. You get the ring no matter what cause it would be impossible to go any further.

it drops the ring even if you dont cut off the tail.. since the game would be impossible to finish without it

@TheEpicMask actually the entire demon's ruins is optional. if you join chaos servant and offer 30 humanities to them, you unlock a short cut straight from quelagg's domain to lost izalith. all the way to the temple too, very close to the boss there.
